As an aside: what bothered me the most was the lack of difficult puzzles. SH3 had some crazy puzzles, and SH 1 and 2 were pretty difficult for when I played them.
SM was still good game, though - played through it nearly five times already.
The monsters don't all behave the same, actually. With the more "nice" Harry they "pet" him when they kill him, like stroke his hair, while the more sexual ones will.... You get the picture.
Haven't seen this myself, however. Multiple people talked about it though on some forums.
Seems you and I had the same idea Chiron. I just bought Shattered Memories and just started playing it today. I like it so far and your right it is less scarey than Fatal Frame, but I will be going back to Fatal Frame.
I can;t wait to see the LP, please put it up quickly! I wanna see how you play the game. Can't wait to see ^_^
I'm really glad that ur doing a LP of Shattered Memories. i watched someone else do one, and he struggled on some really easy parts, or what i thought seemed easy, but i haven't played it so i guess i really shouldn't saying anything
Gotta say I agree with you about SM. I finished it yesturday and I adore it. I'm unsure whether SH2 or SM is better in my opinion, but it's one of the best ones made so far.
Personally, I loved the gameplay. On the PS2 its really easy to control moving the stuff (compared to what I've seen of the Wii) and although the puzzles are easy, I played for the atmosphere and plot, so that's probably why I loved it, especially the lack of combat, running away from everything in the Icey Otherworld
I don't understand how people have such issues controlling the Wii. I've never had issues with it, and I didn't have any issues with it here (even with the usually awkward twisting motions). But hey, everyone can't be as awesome as me (<<A JOKE).
I love the game as well and I'd likely put it second to SH2. The game's still too fresh and new for me to just bump it up to the top without reflection.
its easy to get lost in this game and start walking around endlessly, i got the guide for it , this game surprised me i didnt think i would like it so much
Was looking into getting this game when I saw the E3 trailer for it. Never did get into the series, though I had a chance when a friend let me borrow the first game. KWing's review made it sound pretty good.
I've watched an LP of this, and I have a love/hate relationship with the game. I love the story, I think it's great - I love that the characters change according to your psychological tests.
But then I hate the ice world in place of the otherworld, and I hated that there was only one breed of monster.
I think this game would have been good as a Silent Hill spin-off, not a re-imaging.
i should get into the main silent hill series (or at least 2 since i actually have the XBox version) would u say this is a good game to pick up for someone that hasn't played the original Silent Hill?
Sure thing. It really has so little to do with the original game that it's a different game.
You just have to understand, the other Silent Hills are radically different from this one. The other Silent Hills play more like traditional survival horror games (like Resident Evil 1).
Argh. I can stand a reboot, but to me James was the perfect character to a game like Silent Hill. Seems normal, but you can tell he's not all there. Nice, but you can tell he's hiding a lot of anger over something. SIlent Hill Shattered Memories was alright. But, the direction they took with Dahlia, I thought, was pretty dumb. And the lack of combat. I just... I can stand it, and it was a good game, it's just SH: Shattered Memories 2 that scares me... especially how they'll do James...
I didn't like how they didn't really use puzzles so much as make you do things as you would in real life.
Like, finding keys and unlocking simple doors.
I did like the game completely, though. The same company did Origins and that was a major disappointment but this was leaps and bounds better than 4, Homecoming and Origins.
Great reboot to the series.
I'd like to see what they do for the sequel - hoping they touch back on SH 2.
You're in for a treat in the UFO ending, by the way.
I've already seen a nice Let's Play of Shattered Memory (one by agentjr, a really good one btw), however I'd love to see a LP by you because you always come up with interesting fact about silent hill and other things, I'd love to watch you :)
The game does a pretty good job of tailoring things to how you behave, and there's a segment of the ending that is tailored to how you behaved during the psychiatry sessions.
If you're really interested in how the game would look/feel with you controlling it, then you could go and get it. If you just want to see how the game plays out, you could watch at least the first few videos before deciding.

The ending to SM is kind of ruined when you pick up the first memento if you look back at it.
Nice points on the series, good review.

Since I lack a Wii, I was considering buying this on the PSP. Does the lack of a Wiimote radically alter the gameplay, or is it basically the same?
EvilSandwich 2 years ago
It'd only alter how you aim the flashlight and how you interact with objects in the puzzles. I'd imagine those would be handled easily, though.

I have a feeling there will be more Silent hill games like this one
I've beaten shattered memories 4 times now

I feel this game not only like an anachronism but even more than that.
An example
Harry's got a cellphone. I wonder when the story occur(i guess nearly 1990) Like if everybody got its own cellphone...
loqueteux 2 years ago
Anyway, good intro...
loqueteux 2 years ago
Every character has a cell phone.
darkchiron 2 years ago
Well, that's exactly it.
Nowadays, lots of people have got cell phone.
But was it really the same in 1990?
loqueteux 2 years ago
No. Especially not in some country town like Silent Hill. You'd only see them in large cities, I believe.
But, this game being a 're-imagining' or whatever, the dates are different, too.

I don't despise it when they take an old enemy and put him in a new one, as long as they do something different with that object.

When you're rebooting a series it doesn't matter much. Plus as I kind of indicated, I never really preferred the cult/god stuff.

This one, like the second one, sounds very Jacob's Ladder-esque.
Cool.
