  • I'm 13 and i've wanted to be in the navy since i was 8, for years i've spent weekends with my uncle learning as much as i can about it, my uncle was in the navy from 18 to and left only a few months ago at 21, he gave me all his books and taught me how to march, i've been to hms raleigh and been to presentations, i want to be a personal logistician.. the navy has so many great oppertunitys.. its all i've ever wanted to do really.

  • cool vid

  • I'm so nervous for myn, I'll be devastated if i don't get through

  • i've always wondered if you join the navy now, will you be at sea or sent to help land operations in afghanistan.

  • Training at Raleigh has increased to 10 weeks, I was down there with the Sea cadets and spoke to one of the officers about joining and he mentioned it

  • i recently left the Royal Navy after 5 years service.

I wouldn't recommend the Warfare branch unless you like standing around outside like a cunt for 6 hours on end "guard duty". Cleaning, and generally getting stitched up left right and center.

I recommend Logistics, - writer might be a non-glamorous job but believe me they get all the perks! shore drafts, easy duties onboard!

  • im 14 and ive wanted to join the navy scince i was 11 and i cant wait i can drive ribs i went down to hms bristol and drove a 150 hp rib and i now have my level 2 costal in plaining and dislpacment

  • im 15 and i wanna join the navy but I'm a terrible swimmer and I'm not that fit but I'm a navy cadet atm and my officer in charge says I've got all the right kinda attitude and i can do everyone bar the swimming ... how though is the swimming part

  • im 16 and iv got letter saying im in.... next feb 19 im in the royal as a warfare specialist!!!

  • is there any confinement training at Raleigh?

  • in 24 years from now, as i am, you will see how shite the Andrew is

  • I want to join, i can do all the fitness apart from the press ups :/ Any advice anyone?

  • @ginge1394 Find your nearest careers office. The web is a good tool, but nothing beats actually going in person and having a chat with the careers advisor. I did seven years, and don't regret it.

  • @MrMoorkey Nearly all my family have been in the navy and i dont want to break tradition :/ Me and my friend are going to the afco in reading to have a word :) And he's made me up a get fit plan to help out so im going to go for it :) Thanks :D

  • they'll help you with it

  • I'm 6'6, would i be too tall for the Navy?

  • @wardy2294 No

  • hey, great vid, u look amazing in ur uniform :D

jus wanna ask some questions as am considering to join the navy after uni

i understand that you have to be away from home for a while, but when can go u go home, like can u go home every weekend or something, and how long did u spend your time on sea, thanks :D

  • you cant go home while in basic training, the night before your passing out parade your allowed to see your family but must return to hms raleigh, after your passing out parade you go home for the weekend and are allowed to go home on weekends if your off duty

  • hi firstly great vid. just a couple of questions (dont answer if you dont want to). is there a waiting list to join the navy or is there waiting lists for each branch or both, if so roughly how long for. i ask because im doing a 2 year course at college and after that i wanted to apply for the navy but i dont know weather to apply now to get my name on a waiting list or apply after my course. thanks in advance

  • @conorhoward1995

There is a waiting list, possibly up to two years waiting, but aswell depends on what branch you have applied for.

my advice is definitely put youre name down while you are on youre two year course, if you want to enter shortly after finishing schooling. I am 16 years of age and have my Recruiting Test this monday, and that is when youre waiting list starts.

    Hope this helped.

  • it depends which job you want to do, for most jobs the waiting list is about two years.

  • done most of that stuff and i'm only 14

  • can anyone tell me how long does it take to join the royal navy? i have finished my RT, Medical, Physical,& interview.....

  • Your dress blues look so much nicer than ours in the USN, and you actually get to go out on a boat during boot! --FC3

  • wow that looks alot easier then joining the US navy, but it's to late for that now

  • Duvets now! lol when I was at Raleigh we had horrible scratchy blankets.

  • @KidVisualx3x the food in the Traf Galley is awful, gets better after though.

  • You forgot more school work Maths , English tests, scrubbing kit and kit musters pillow fights ' then spending the rest of the night running around the parade ground for punishment. Things must have changed. Mind you the dress sense seems to have got better when I left the Navy one of the questions I was asked was about the uniform and I said that for a senior service the junior rates uniform was the worst out of all three services all we had was No'1's , No"2's and number 8's nothing casual

  • if you join as a seamen specilist is there still a chance of having to join ground units in afghanistan if the need arrises

  • 35 years of senior service and i have 2 sons in now . great life

  • @dave2806 I want to join I am a pretty fit person physically but Ive always had this phobia about heights are there any assault courses involving a great deal of height?

  • @TextBookPuncher1 hi , don't worry about the assault courses the staff will get you through anything if its what you want . depending on the trade etc there could be a lot of what you do each day that could involve heights , ships can be very tall things after all lol . don't worry you will be fine after your training is completed . good luck its a great life .

  • You will be at about 15 - 20 ft for some of the assault/obstacle courses and you have to jump from about 10/15ft into the pool for sea survival, but don't worry everyone has to do it and they will drag you round if they have to.

  • how far do you have to swim in the swim test?

  • These days, when you pass out, you get issued your ipod wrapped in a white flag.

  • Spent 8 years in the RN, loved it. Don't like to criticise the video but you never mentioned all the cleaning or 'scrubbing out' as it's called. Good luck in th RN, it's a fantastic place to be.

  • nice vid. im thinking of joining the navy after college but the way things are looking at the moment with personnel cuts in the navy im not sure if thats going to happen :(

  • all together how long does training take?

  • I've been in for 3 years now and still loving dont get me wrong the pay isnt brilliant and like any other jobs you have your boring long days but if you look at it it in the long run, how many jobs pay for you to get home, give you about 9 weeks leave a year, one weeks AT a year, and allow your to travel the world partying i've def got no plan of leaving in the near future. CIS way forward lol

  • Guys wish me luck have interview with navy carriers next week :)

  • While you're at it, please explain the significance of Lt Col Charles Halt's UFO witnessing in Suffolk back in 1980.

    You might want to know!

    Know what I mean?

  • pip pip cheerio

  • ive just done an aquaintance course and i cant decide whether or not the navy is for me. The pay isnt brilliant and it takes ages to be promoted, petty officer will take you roughly 10 years.also if you pass raliegh you are bound to an agreement to stay with the navy for 3 years and my contract will state that i can be put in the submarine core even if its against my will. I am not worried about the toughness of raliegh, i am worried however on passing up a great oppertunity is it worth it?

  • @MrGuitarlover24 To start off Mate the pay aint that great but you get a twice yearly rise and various allowances and bonuses. Besides which when you live on base or on your ship you get your accomodation paid for and cheap food no electic bill gas bills council tax etc. Your money in the Navy goes a hell of alot further than the same amount of money in civvy street trust me. Plus when you are at sea for a few months you can come back with a few months wages untouched in the bank.

  • @ADZ01982 Thanks for the advice man. I'm not gonna withdraw my application or anything cos ive still got a year to wait. I understand what your saying about the money, but its not just the money its the contract and the fact that your their property and they can do whatever they like with you for a minimum of three years, im not sure I like that idea. I just gotta have a good long think about it I guess

  • navy? fuck that ARMY!!!

  • @doctorpressure08, army? fuck that NAVY!!!

  • im applying in 2 - 3 months, cant wait :)

  • im 20 year old and my life is heading down the wrong track, but ive realized that, and have started hard training to get into the navy, my plan is to be an engineer on the subs, i can imagine it being tough on family people but all i have at the moment are my parents and 2 older brothers who want to see me succeed where they have failed. I keep showing myself all these videos to keep my motivation up, so thanks for the vid lou

  • oh and another thing i think i could do well in the swimming test. since when i was a kid i used to go swimming every week up until i was about 13 and i am 16 now. i still need to get fitter for the running. i can run 2.4km but i have no idea in what time.

  • im planning on joining this september as a marine engineer.iv always wanted to travel to different country's and so i think the navy would be great for me!

  • @1:22 become a lesbian

  • Love this video

  • good luck with your life in the senior service !

  • I'm hoping to join the navy what does the medical test entail ?

    good vid thanx xx

  • looks boring, nd easy , my advice join the army , i did in 2007 and havent looked back , you get alot more out of the it, the training is alot more challeging and rewarding and i feel proud to be a proper sodlier and not a sailor

  • @james8es thats just a one sided army point of view. The army are relitivly harder trained because they are the infantry on the front lines. The Navy are trained to deal with combat and life on ships. Its pointless the army training for naval conditions and pointless the Navy training for frontline infantry conditions. Without the Navy British cargo ships aswell as other cargo ships would be hijacked by pirates. We are all on the frontline, just in different conditions.

  • @james8es your a cunt.....

  • hms raleigh was awesome, shit sometimes but overall some gr8 memories and friends made

  • read able seaman's book Mast of Fear , tales from the lower deck, its all about joining the navy, its fictional but there is lots of fact in it

  • @nascardude152 you have more ships :p

  • I'm thinking of joining the USN after I get out of high school, anyone know of the differences?

  • I really want to join the Navy when i'm old enough...do you do lots of traveling?

  • it doesn't look that great or inspiring but then agaain i've learned its better not to expect too much from life. SO far i've found everything in life to be dissapointing as to what i was expecting it to be. Sometimes i find being a human being in itself rather primitive as a life form

  • @allamerican1995 Greetings from Great Britian, I too have no problem with saying God bless America. :)

  • i really want to join the royal navy when im older

but im a british asian and was wondering if asian people are alowed to join the navy? thanks

  • @AsadGstar as long as your a british citizen you can join any of the armed forces

  • how strong of a swimmer do you have to be ? im not brilliant at frontcrawl but can tread water all day

  • @mooseboy19 wen I went through trainin ther were people failing just coz they cudn tread water!its only 2 lengths of the pool piece of piss!

  • Drake 18s 2001 - we fuckin rule!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wonder if the family of the wren featured here, who look so proud of her, realise that she will spend much of the rest of her RN career absolutely bullet proof drunk and bent over getting humped round the back of Joanna's or Jesters (depending on her station) all while trying not to spill her kebab? I'm thinking she's probably held that part of Navy life back from them. What do you think?

  • Comment removed

  • thinking of applying, going to swansea careers centre tuesday,

  • i cant wait to do this... aint the wait the killer? has anyone got any ideas what the water training is like? probs my only worry... anyone got any ideas whats a good job to go into afterwards? i want to be a seaman specialist but not sure...

help will be useful in job choice

  • OMG i so hope i pass the rt test on wednesday, this video makes me want to join more :D

  • @RyanHopkinson How did it go?! :)

  • what happens if you cant swim

    will they help u swim

  • im thinking about going into the navy when im older to be a seaman specialist which my distant cuz has done

i know you have to have an eye sight test but will that mean i fail it because i where glasses?

my eye sight is pretty appoling at distance and i have to where my giggs constantly

  • Whats up with 1:44? the height line looks strange for the military. It looks pretty cool though.

  • @jameswynn93 its wen u line up it ges tall then short then tall so its a curve

  • @jameswynn93 it's supposed to look like the pattern of a wave :)

  • @jameswynn93 tallest on the flanks, shortest in the centre

  • I'm curious.

I'm 23 and I feel like I'd be too old to join up to for The RN.

Do you get alot of people my age or older at Phase 1?

  • @Ronkaknight wen I joind ther wer roughly 5 ova 30s in my class so no worrys!

  • hi, just wondering if anyones got any advise for the formal interview, got it in three days! and if i pass it i dont think theres a waiting list for what i'm joining as so hopefully i'll be there asap. hopes theres other lasses there to!

  • im joining in august i hope theirs girls on it

  • iv been to my and talked to the navy watched the dvd and applied for wepon and air engineering next its my test is the test difficult? and there is a 2 year waiting list for the jobs i want to do which is a shame are there any other jobs that u can get in the navy straight away? obv u have to go through training but i just want to be apart of the navy asap

  • training is different for each job in the navy anyway

  • I still don't get why "they" disbanded the Wrens and made "us" all the same. In fact I don't get why the fuck women serve at sea!

  • cheeers for the video

on the website it doesnt really give you a perspective of what basic training will involve, its just written with no pictures

thankyouu for the video, it has really helped me :D thanks :D

  • Nice vid. Thanks. Navy or Marines... i think Navy. peace

  • @millsy1804 me too!

  • Ah man I can barely swim :(

  • @harrygorrod23 makes 2 of us. lol i swim like a brick

  • Ah man I can barely swim :(

  • God I hate assault courses... Im fit but I hate them :P

  • wow. idk if this is similar or not to the american navy. but your training seems really hard. no wonder the royal navy is so famous

  • i havint gt the fitness levels im 15 and if i join i will do when im 16 or 17

  • i want to join when im older but im scared cos im not the most confident or organize person that why i want to learn ll these things

  • @Cambobubba1 don't worry, you will build confidence.....they make sure u do!

  • @Cambobubba1

yeah they will shout and scream at u and make u cry

  • @Cambobubba1

I assure you by the time you finish recruit school you'll be the fastest, fittest, most confident, most organised you will ever be.

  • im 32 and have my presentation interveiw on the 28th april to join as a rating i am pretty fit doing an 8 week training program you know the usual running swimming treading water, basic fitness, my question is how long from that interveiw to 9 week training is it? ..i know im 32 butever since school i wanted to join but life took me in different directions...i dont want to fuck up i want this so much!

  • oh yes taking pictures in phase 1 is like soo bad they might even slap you on the wrist!!! .......... thomas9919 you are such a spoil sport

  • its taken me all in all 2 years to finally get a bloody entry date!

  • @TheOpenHanded Seems the Navy takes along time for entry into training. I left school in April1969 had one or two jobs went to the Navy recruitment office in Southsea at the end of October same year took an entry test and was sent to Raliegh in December 1969 to become E52 division 16 weeks training.

  • Taking pics during phase 1 is strictly against the rules.

  • @thomas9919 you having a giraffe!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @thomas9919 THEY take the pictures and you get a cd when you pass in!

  • passed my recruit test for sea spec in september now im waitin for a date

  • Nice video - ex Fisgard Tiffy

  • @Peteradvent

What was your entry and division at Fisgard Peter?

I was 803 entry Spike Division

  • seriously thank you

  • A nice little montage! Glad you enjoyed it and stuck with it - some don't, but it gets better after training, especially when you get yourself a sea draft. You get to love each ship you serve on like each is your first car.

  • son is going through the process now for com tech. waiting list is between 15 and 18 months depending on trade. engineering is the longest wait. but well worth the wait. apply now while at school then do collage while you wait.

  • nice vid, going to join up after my a levels

    warfare officer(subs)[if i can fit]

  • just passed the recruitment test, the waiting list for seaman specialist was 24 months as are most other jobs,if this helps

  • nice im joining royal navy

  • i was told that the waiting list for a seaman spec is 20 months, does it always take that long after selection?

  • no its 9 weeks i know i did it!

  • im starting soon and im going to be a sniper or a spy

  • im joining 16th may ... training is 9 weeks

  • im applying for seaman specialist :)

  • nice1 m8! im also signing up for a seaman specialist very soon ^^

  • phase 1 is only 8 weeks long not 9

  • ya i was 2 marks off on the test to do what i wanted to do in the navey but got loads of other choices still dont no witch to pick but only been 4 days since i sat my test

  • I hated Raleigh. Gets better when your in the fleet.

  • im applying as seaman specailist, nice vid too

  • great vid/pics enjoyed all

  • go vid m8 gives a clear idea going in this year woo hoo

  • Very well done, I served for 18 years and left as a CPO. After the navy nothing comes close !

  • @SJW439 I joined at 16 & did 26 in the Andrew, came out in 84 how right you are nothing comes close. I worked for several companies until 87 then started up on my own as I couldn't stand the idiots that I had to work with & for.

  • got my medical this week! anyone know how long you usually wait to start training after your selection process? im applying for communication information specialist

  • good luck!!!! i dont know about your area of work unfortunately but really hope it isnt too long!

  • Just finished my 9 weeks, Fisgard 24's whoop whoop. Hasn't really hit me yet, though all i can say is do it.

  • brilliant!! Im in the process of recruitment still! Got my eye test on thursday then medical. Passed my RT last week :)

  • yo just wondering how easy it is to get into the navy if joining as a rating, like what if you failed all gcse's but passed their tests will you still be able to join easily or not?

  • u need 5 gces to get in

  • it actually depends on the job you want to join as but you don't actually need ANY gcse's to join up. go see your AFCO and they'll tell you what your options are :)

  • @loucarter i got about 8 gcse's and 1 a level would tht get me a decent job? all of those in IT. Was the training hard? and was it only 9 weeks?

  • @Brady2k10 that's plenty! you actually don't need any GCSEs to get in and still get a decent job :) you have any idea which branch you wanna join? training had some elements that were hard, but there should be no reason why u shouldn't get thru it so long as you're physically fit and pay attention! yep, only 9wks

  • @loucarter Would 5 GCSE's get you in as an officer or do you have to start from scratch reardless of qualifications?

  • you better pass the swimming test. I was on HMS Sheffield in the Falklands in 1982 and we had to swim 8,000miles back home.

  • i properly laughed at that haha good one

  • it seems great now but you wait until you're doing a RAS in the North Atlantic with a wind chill of -10 getting soaked and see how much you wish were a bin man then, had a good six years service but be ready for some bad times too. It led to me getting a very well paid job when I left though (make sure you do something technical!)

  • im really exited now , doing my psychometric test on the 4th febuary , just want to know is it not that strict?? can you use phones??? and does anyone have any experience in medical as i really want to join as one , thank you :D

  • I plan on joining the royal navy, my fitness is ok and everything, I just wondering how strong of a swimmer you have to be? I mean I not saying I'm awful but I am not a great swimmer just average you know?

  • I wouldn't worry about it to much, you will get better at it as you do it more.

  • Ok cheers mate :)

  • HA ha..we used Lee Enfield .303 rifles when I was Raleigh in 1966

  • I really want to join the Navy, but my fitness is terrible at the minute, I'm not fat or anything, just haven't been doing as much exercise as I really should be, what is the training really like? and if you fail the test, can you repeat it? thanks.

  • thats the date im joining ... goin in as a engineering tech...

  • :D 11 of january , 2010 but probs wont start training till a little after :D u had ur interview yet ?

  • is the food there is awful

  • If you like potatoes, you'll enjoy it

  • @BadEggCymru, yes, yes it really is.

  • Thanks for this, I'm joining up in the new year... have my RT Jan 15th, all going well I could be out training a few weeks later :)

  • hey what u doing i have my Interview 11 of jan what u goiing in as ? reply :D

  • hey skatefilmsmile - I'm a nurse!! Really quite nervous/excited.. what about u?

  • haha to be quite honest im pooping myself...warfare specialist :S im only 16 my 30 year old brother is doing it ...i wanna see the world ...coz thats wot its all about ...but just gunna miss family and friends..:D message back

  • good luck there!! you'll do fine!!

  • nah theres no rift at all between the officers and the retings. we get on all very well its a gr8 family atmosphear on board. ive been in a year nd a half now and dont get me wrong.. tranning is easy for some but not all. its alot of committment and late nights working hard to prove u have what it takes. the best feeling in the world when you'r family watches you pass out. purley amasing! and the weight u loose! haha v trim. its a brilliant life and ide recommend it 2 any 1. + pays pritty dam gd

  • I start my basic training 9th may, cant bloody wait. Gonna be a shock to the system

  • is it true that in the navy, there is a super huge devide between its sailors and officers more than in other parts of the armed forces? as in the officers really look down on sailors and such?

im not joining the navy, but its what i heard

  • great video I am 14 and in the seacadets. thank for the video

  • thats the bit im not looking forward to im bit scared but excited at the same time
