Yes, we are victim from our environment, but not completly. I think there is a big part that depends on the person and how that person deals with the environment where she or he lives.

People personalities are the other half along with their environment. People can grow up in a the exact same way and still come out completely different. Their own individual personalities I think effect them just as much and I think more than their own environment.

I totally disagree on one point, this woman knew exactly what she was doing. She knew it was wrong and she even spoke dismissively about the fact that she was being called a racist. That was an admission of guilt on her part, an acknowledgement that she was aware that she was making racially offensive statements and just simply didn't care.
I believe in products of environment, but I also believe in choices. For example, my upbringing was one of chaos and violence, but I watched what was happening around me and took it as a lesson. I chose to do have different beliefs and act differently (more positively) than those around me. Maybe it was because I educated myself from a young age of the outcomes of the lifestyle I saw around me, or maybe I was simply an individual instead of a part of my environment.
The cycle argument is one I've lost on purpose in recent years. When you become an adult you have to make choices that are influenced by your upbringing and your own views and experiences in the world. There are plenty of people that grew up in circumstances which gave them views that they have rejected because they are irrational.

I know a lot of people who were brought up with racist or right-wing families, and they don't follow those beliefs, because they sought out other ways of thinking and believed different things. However, nurture is a big thing that affects how we think to some degree.

Sometimes I wonder how people can be so tainted, ignorant, and non-empathetic. I grew up in a harsh environment(siblings being alcoholic, drugs, anger) but instead of continuing the cycle, instead in my mind alone I was able to see those things were wrong because it hurt me and everyone else in my family.Although I can see why some people are hateful, sometimes because I did not find it hard to be empathetic and see what is true, it feels strange to me that other people have a hard time doing so

I totally disagree on one point, this woman knew exactly what she was doing. She knew it was wrong and she even spoke dismissively about the fact that she was being called a racist. That was an admission of guilt on her part, an acknowledgement that she was aware that she was making racially offensive statements and just simply didn't care.

I believe in products of environment, but I also believe in choices. For example, my upbringing was one of chaos and violence, but I watched what was happening around me and took it as a lesson. I chose to do have different beliefs and act differently (more positively) than those around me. Maybe it was because I educated myself from a young age of the outcomes of the lifestyle I saw around me, or maybe I was simply an individual instead of a part of my environment.

The cycle argument is one I've lost on purpose in recent years. When you become an adult you have to make choices that are influenced by your upbringing and your own views and experiences in the world. There are plenty of people that grew up in circumstances which gave them views that they have rejected because they are irrational.
Your assuming that everyone is 'good' and that they are able to be 'cured' of there views you or others find undesirable.

@RiffCantrell Haha - You are assuming that I'm assuming everyone is 'good'. I'm not. I'm saying the way people act (whether 'good' or 'bad') has a root cause which exists within their environment. Deal with the root causes which lead to abhorrent behaviour, and you increase the chance of people being 'good'.

@Blade376 Haha, I assumed due to what I believed was your own assumptions :P. I agree with the idea of starting at the root cause, but I also believe some people are genuinely bad, admittedly buy my own standards. I'm sure there were lots of people during in Germany during the Nazi period that completely rejected Nazi views. As a society we completely reject and demonize pedophiles and we have agreed it is immoral, most pedophiles know this, but still do it anyway.
