Hope you enjoyed it - we all put heaps of work into that one!
We took people from Hawera / Stratford to Whangamomona for republic day in January and keeping our fingers crossed for that route to be open again one day for our trains!
In the meantime, we're bringing a coach down from Auckland to visit Stratford Pioneer and Waitara Rail Preservation at the end of July.
They are British Rail MkII's. Infact to date the Capital Connection are the most unaltered of the ex British stock imported. I think I've got a shot of the Auckland cars (with doors halfway down the body, rather than the end) and I know there are videos of the heavily modified MKII's known as 'SW' cars for the "Wairarapa Connection" on youtube as well. Maybe if I am lucky might see sum authentic 4ft 8.5in cars running in the uk in 6 weeks!!!
You should have joined us! Heapsa Stratford people jumped on the train for a days shopping in New Plymouth City. More went from New Plymouth to Inglewood and back too (actually surprised them all, went beyond Inglewood!).
Unless it was that one with the really old train, coz i went on that one with my parents. Was it a really old steam train?? Or was it just a normal one...
Diesel hauled express train - took people from Palmerston North to Stratford / New Plymouth and home again in the one day. Left Palmerston Nth at 7am and returned at 10pm
I've not been to this part of NZ either, though I have seen Taranaki from the air. Are those the ex BR coaches they got a few years ago? They look pretty smart.
Yes they are - the same set as in the other videos I have already uploaded. They have recently started a refurbishment programme with upgraded interiors and new external colour scheme. This work started earlier this year and is being done gradually carriage by carriage.
Interesting for me too - the first time I have travelled into the Naki from the south-end of the North Island. The trip ran yesterday in almost fine weather all day and everyone onboard seemed to enjoy it. Got back to Palmerston North at about 10:30pm NZ time
Nice Video.
I was on the trip from NP to Inglewod and return.
