I have a love-hate relationship with Filipino Catholicism. I like some of the colourful rituals like Salubong, Sinulog, saint's processions, festivals, Misa de Gallo, Simbanggabi, and the granting of pardons, but I don't like the extreme self-mortification, glass-cutting, whipping, and literal crucifixion at all. Sometimes, it makes me want to go entirely Protestant. But it is part of my heritage. It's hard to separate being Filipino from being at the least, a "Cultural Catholic".
