I used to work at Disney's Animal Kingdom, and this show was my treat to myself. I've moved away since then, but this still brings tears to my eyes. Thank you.
I got to see this live at christmas and I broke down into tears. (Though my grand marnier slush from France may have contributed). My Grandpa always took us to Disneyworld and he passed away in 2008. So everything Disneyworld related makes me think of him...especially Illuminations, which was his favorite. This finale, live, is simply unreal.
As if the "We Go On" Segment of the show is not enough to make your burst into tears, this surely is. Crazy beautiful, amazing, and inspiring. Magical! Indescribable. Worth the price of admission to Epcot for these 4 minutes.
This is the best camera work i have ever seen on this show. I've searched for a good video of this firework show, but yours is definetly the best! 5/5 stars!
A brilliant video Steve...I saw if many times last December and your video has given me goosebumps...Until last year I never even knew they did this Christmas add on to Illuminations....I cried buckets when I saw it.....going back on December 1st this year and can't wait to see it all again
Steve, thank you for this video. I saw the show several times last year. It was moving each time. I can now watch your fantastic video to refresh my memory. As good as you video is, it misses one thing. I was standing near the rails. When all the fireworks went off at the very end, it was really a little scary. They just kept expanding out toward me and it was thrilling to say the least. Thanks for your great work.
I agree that the Epcot Holiday Illuminations is one of the most aesthetically beautiful things I have seen and the star of Disney attractions. I tell visitors to see it the first night of their visit, because they will want to see it every night of their stay. I was told that a commercially made video was not available. Fortunately we have Steve's which is excellent. This one attraction is worth a visit to Disney World.
I have tried to buy a commercially made video of Illuminations with the Christmas tag and have not been successful. Steve, I love the Plaza vantage point and the fact that it is a wide enough angle to get everything. I am a WDW fanatic and this fireworks display is one of my very favorite things in all of the World. I can go to my happy place anytime now just by visiting your video. Thanks for posting!
Oh! I just can't stand it! I love Epcot so much! I want to go their every day. The rides are great and you learn a lot on them. Test Track and Mission Space are simply a one of a kind. Eating a wonderful diner at world showcase is paradise. Different countries that are themed in just one park. And the fireworks are amazing. Illuminations is great. But adding a Christmas, 4th of July or New years tag makes it so memorable. Go EPCOT!
Without doubt, you have the very best footage of the "Peace on Earth" part of Illuminations, and I have looked at many of them. It is a professional presentation both in the quality of the pictures and sound. You have captured the most comprehensive view of the show that I have seen. Congratulations and thanks for sharing it with us. It is a joy to watch.
I saw Illuminations on December, 2007, right after the Candlelight Processional. It was beautiful. Being an amateur photographer, I first planned on taking pictures of it with my camera on a tripod, but had to forget about it due to a nagging back pain. Still, the wide views Steve got from the Canada pavilion area are great, and about the only way I can think of to get such a BIG show in a single view. Steve, if you top this one, please post it on YouTube - it's bound to be excellent!
Thanks! It's actually from World Showcase Plaza, not Canada, although I do have a clip of the 2005 NYE fireworks tag that was shot from Canada. I actually didn't like the footage from Canada; I thought it would get everything. But World Showcase Plaza is better. Still, even in this clip, I couldn't get it all. Definitely a show you need to see in person!
I finally had a chance to go back and look at the source to compare. Nothing wrong with the source, but for some reason on YouTube it's the video that's off, not that audio. If I play the two at exactly the same time, at the same point in time for each clip, the video is slightly ahead of where it should be. I have no idea why this happens on YouTube.
i was there that night as well, thank you for posting this. i still get chills every time i see it. Ive said it before the only show better than Illuminations is Illuminations at Christmas
Where exactly did you stand to shoot this? I know you're at the entrance to world showcase but every time I shoot Illuminations from there I have to stand in the plaza as far back as the roped off area and I still can't get those two towers in my shots! Please respond. Also were you shooting this in wide format? Thank you very much!!
yup, that's the spot i stood at, basically dead center (thanks to some kind folks standing on either side of me). i have a wide angle lens and i STILL was not able to capture the entire show. I'll try again from the Mexico bridge at some point. It is a definitely a tough show to shoot. And no, not widescreen format.
How is it that Disney can so easlily make you forget all the problems going on, and truely bring out all that's good in the world?

Is there any way you can align the audio with the video, it's off by about 1-2 seconds.

Why is it infamous? Seems like a cool enough finale to me.

Infamous b/c it earned a reputation like wildfire among Disney fans and is widely regarded as one of Disney's best finales.
