Hey, I don't know if this will work for all of you but if you have everything connected and you still don't get a signal, would you like to try the Fn (function) key on your keyboard with either F7 or F8, (whichever has the screen/tv icon). It worked for me so...up to you if you want to try.
I got the same issue with my TV (40", 40PFL5605D) and until now I got no solution. Have you solved the problem? That's terrible! I have to remember not to buy any Phillps at all!
I found a new work-around in case anyone else stumbles upon this video, becomes as frustrated as I did, and needs a solution. By introducing an HDMI switch into the mix, it acted as a buffer and resolved the handshake issue between the computer and the television. I bought a 2-in/1-out HDMI selector switch from Radio Shack (model #15-317). This unit worked for me.
Thanks for uploading this video Greg. I'm having this EXACT same problem. I tried the work-around in the comments with no success. Have you found out any other information about this problem?
Thanks for the comments. I bought another laptop that works fine on this same TV so I gave the Gatway laptop to my son. The new laptop running Windows 7 with a HDMI output works just fine. I am going to leave this video up so that other people with similar problems don't feel alone.
greg I highly recommend you take that tv back...if you can. I found out that Phillips tvs generally run of specs. They advertise all these specs but have huge problems... I got a phillips and hooked it up to my ps3 and laptop and there were HUGE lag issues....like I mean a half second delay from when sI fired a gun in a game to what happens on the tv...I forget the model number of the tv we got but it really should have been recalled. We looked around on the internet and found it was junk.
I have the exact same problem on a desktop PC (No closing lid workaround for me). Works fine on Ubuntu 10.10 so, pretty sure it's a windows driver issue.
@crazycrizzzy You are awesome like a BOSS! I was having same issues as everyone else.. I remember having this same issue before, and i changed HDMI cables, settings and also put on different port HDMI2. I don't remember how I fixed it, but a couple of months later I ran into same problem... and tried this... confirmed working.
Next I will try a friend's laptop that is a different make/model, provided it has an HDMI port. Stay tuned for that because I am leaving town for a long vacation.
SAME problem...same computer and same tv. Did troubleshooting for 2 days, took my laptop to BestBuy and plugged it in a newer Phillips and it didn't have any issues with HDMI. Any word from Phillips? They must update this....it's ridiculous!
Today I called and spoke to Kyle at the number given in the comment below. He concluded that it is a compatibility issue between the laptop (Gateway NV53) and this TV. I do not have another computer at home that has a HDMI port so I will borrow a friend's laptop that is a different make and try it to see if that other laptop has the same issue.
I am trying to call Phillips today at 1-866-310-0787. Last night I spent time on-line with their representative who said he couldn't visit Youtube to watch this video. Today I will see if someone is actually willing to watch the video.

Workaround! Ensure computer’s power setting says “Do Nothing” when closing laptop lid (workaround will require an external or wireless keyboard/mouse)
1. Turn TV on put input to any HDMI port EXCEPT for the one the laptop is using.
2. Connect TV and laptop with HDMI cable
3. Turn on the laptop & confirm laptop recognizes TV
5. Close laptop’s lid
6. Change TV’s HDMI input to the one the laptop is on - Desktop should display
Do not open the laptop’s lid or signal will drop
