lol. How can I make comparisons? I didn't even know who won. I was just implying on how "memorable" Tom was. Perhaps Rush is a better actor, but thats subjective. He certainly is more accomplished. But just because he has seniority & is more favored, doesn't necessarily mean his performance was better than Tom's "that year". It certainly doesn't make Tom any less talented or less deserving. There are actors and there are stars. Tom is a star, a big name, but he isn't an exceptionally talented actor. Yes, sometimes the acadamy rewards stars with oscars for their profitability but Tom has never been among those fortunate ones; it's bad luck.

As far as Rush's performance is concerned, he was amazing in Shine. If you have seen the film, you will never forget his rendition. There was no question as to who deserved the Oscar that year.

what makes an actor an actor is that you cannot imagine the roles he plays with anybody else. They are irreplaceable. Can you imagine Rain man with an actor other than Dustin Hoffman? Or Shine with other than Rush? Or Taxi driver with other than De Niro? Or the Godfather with other than Al Pacino? Of course, you can't. As to Tom, he has been replaceable in all the roles he has played.

But if you find him an incredible actor, that's your choice - I put my standard higher.
