First of all if you get the soap first you just rinse off the soap---soap doesn't do anything without water.

Montessori starts at age 2.5 and i dont know any child that comes in at that age knowing how to wash their hands properly. If nobody shows them how will they know?? Dont let a video of washing hands put you off the entire method of montessori, although i dont think that tamis videos are a very good representation of what real montessori schools are like

douglasking2 , there are 4 areas of practical life, one area is called care of the eprson where they learn to wash themselves dress themselves (dressing frames) do their own hair, basic manners such as cover your mouth when sneezing. This is just one tiny part of montessori.

I have respect for Montessori, but it can become overly directive. The majority of people I know,family and friends (and me) did not go to Montessori classes, and I cannot see any real failings in us that Momtessori classes would have negated. It can become obsessional and I always say that one should carefully choose from M methodolgy and criticse if required. M advocated for ch to work alone and that play was to be discouraged. In a restaurant we select certain foods and never all the menu.

if this is Montessori, I shall keep away from it. Kids don't need these detailsas to washing hands. i have worked in several developing countries and the kids can all wash their hands without Maria Montessori.

They know it because they have been TAUGHT it...preschool aged children need to learn how to wash their hands just as much as tying their shoes.
