why are you gay people debating about what the game is called? soccer is short for association football which separates it from american and australian football which even that is sometimes called gridiron with everyone else. the game has many names in which everyone all around the world says it differently, not everyone is going to call it football! it has many names which are soccer, fussbal, calcio, voetbol, futbal etc.

The best football players are here in the states and thats why American Football is the dominant sport here. The Super bowl in 2008 with NY Giants vs. NE Patriots was an unbelievable match, but the same goes for 2006 World Cup Final Italy vs. France and the recent 2008 Euro Final. In the end the original Football is the dominant sport today but theirs no denying that good competition and great athletes exist in both.

In the film History of Football the game is refered to as "soccer" from time to time as well. Never by an American. The film even shows a product called The George Best Soccer Kit.
