@langford37 actually if you had actually looked this up rock is a combination between Blues & Jazz both invented by blacks. It was mostly created as a way to build larger fan base for black performers. With it's popularity it was eventually dubed rock music because it made people "Rock & Roll". Later as a way to debunk this music white executives & racest parents called it devil music in an attempt to make their children stop listening to it.

They became widely popular due to how they used a more soulful sound in their lyrics & music compaired to the other bands of the time. But since Hip-Hop or Rapapore (rap) music had already become established since the late 70's there wasn't a huge rush for black artist to make more rock music like they did.
