Tobin tax is just unfair because trading is a zero sum game. No money is created during trading. It moves from 1 pocket to te other. Even a small tax of 0.1% of the underlying value would cause complete market caps of companies to be drained from the market in only a few years of trading. If all shares of a company are traded during a trading day then 0.1% of the entire market cap of that company leaves the market. In 10 days 1% in 3 years 100%. This money leaves the markets.

How do you propose to solve problems beyond the capability of a national government to control (nuclear weapons, environmental degredation, etc)?

How do you feel about national collective action through the US Federal government even though there are state governments to manage state issues?

Are you nuts?  Once we start to give money to the UN, they become our masters. That is their purpose anyway, but most don't understand that yet. The UN is NOT the USA. Yes, you are right with your definition and the goals of the UN.

But....

If Tobin tax would be considered there would be a sign to the international Banksters to stop speculating against currencies on a big scale.
