@riskavid doesnt make any difference. how do i know they have improved? As far as im concerned, they couldve quit this profession or hobby of theirs and moved on to breeding small rodents. Dont take things for granted so easily, jackass.
in anyway i rather blender to do everything, but maya is more used for movies and stuff like that. but i think that maya have lots of issues, and lightwave, well, has been long long time without use it. so i'm not gonna talk about it.
jeez, lot of harsh people here. its not about the program, its about the artist. the program is just the medium. each program has its pluses and minuses.
great looking rigs! i havent really seen a setup like that for the arms before. good stuff.
@golemkonty im currently learning maya, and while im only a week into i agree on the modeling part. i love lightwave modeling because its not cluttered, but its not as good as maya for other aspects. solution, learn em all! :D
@Algae998 yeah! im currently learning blender, i think it has bright future - this year the final new version will be as good as Maya in animation, but with better system and scripts for modelling - and he has sculpting too, and compositing! and is free! i love it because it has very flexible interface and better shortcut system, and i prefer to work with shortcuts its faster and easier for me!
You can either order it from their website ( google "Autodesk Maya" ) or at your local computer / art store. The latest version out is Autodesk Maya Unlimited 2009 , and it is expensive - It costs $4,955 US dollars. But you can download ownload a 30-Day Trial of Autodesk Maya (and your saved renders will have watermark in this version )I have Autodesk Maya Unlimited 2008, but I really haven't done anything with it yet. Some say that Lightwave is better for modeling, and Maya for animation.
yea i rather have the easy to work with maya bones over light wave lightwave is pure do it you self when maya pertty much sets it self up like 3dsmax biped.
and yes maya is easier for a noob to learn.
if you think im talking shit about my 2nd fav program your wrong.
Hey douche. Before spewing shit just check out the production roster of maya vs lightwave, speaks for itself.
If you prefer working with a masochistic animation package such as lightwave, then it's your choice. A stupid choice but it's your choice. At least export your models and keep lightwave only for modeling.
You my friend are a god lol :) i've been using lightwave for about a year now and perhaps it's because of my computer but i cant get a smooth motion in layout :( but you are great at this :) lol keep it up
idk maya still seems to be the better one for character anim in my opinion. I use LW tho. Once you master one program, using another program isnt that hard. Theres just a small adjustment getting use to the layout and menus and such...but sweet rigs! i only dream of this stuff one day :)
i use Blender 3d, is lightwave hard to learn? i also have 3ds max but im not gonna bother learning it, and im not used to the interface, so different from blender
not really. Its pretty straight forward. If your new to the whole modeling scene then ya you might need more time getting use to all the names and tool names and purposes and such. But I seem to learn LW pretty quick and easy I think. Using it for not even a month and never touched any other modeler except secondlife =D, I can already create photorealistic surfaces and simple objects, get great render results, make a scene and anim it, navigate LW pretty easy ect. Im a quick learner though.
From what I hear Blender's interface is different from just about everything else. I've also heard several LW users who've used 3DS MAX talk about how much they dislike Max's interface. Of course, Max has a much larger presence in the games industry so if that's what you want to do it may be worth the time to learn.
I think even one of these programs is enough studying for a lifetime. How can someone be so good at two separate programs, like Maya and Lightwave? Amazing stuff.
fusna123 said it right: Animators are what make an amazing animation, not software. Maya, Lightwave, Max, and more can all ultimately do the same thing but in different ways. If any one of them was the best, or near perfect, then studios wouldn't be cidng their own custom in-house software.
Great work! I have used both LW and Maya extensively in films and TV for years, and I know how hard it can be to rig and animate characters in LW. Now if only LW could do squash and stretch rigs like Maya.
no man, in this rig maya bones are hidden, just need to hide LW bones too :) but the rigger wanted to show them because of the technique behind. And just for the record, softwares don´t rock, ANIMATORS DOES ! I use both of them.
You got that right, Lightwave's jus6t as good and in some aspects better. Not to mention it's a heck of a lot cheaper, especially when you consider free unlimited render nodes.

Great LW rig. I don't know why people think it's not good at character animation. And it doesn't even have the newer tools.

I want a tutorial for this rig, man! They'd love me at my job!
dogzer 4 years ago 5
@dogzer Really? Cause I"d hate you.
The controls are insanely clustered. Good rigs are able to do all of this but with out all the controls everywhere.
Not to mention most of this stuff is very basic.
