To replace it for water I don't no it might speed things up depending on the boiling point but it wouldn't make it any faster or come into the equation in any way because it is being evaporated anyway. Alcohol instead on kno3 I doubt because I assume the kno3 is working as an oxidising agent and the water in the kno3 solution is evaporate

@thawdani No it would actually render the sulfer and binding agents in the BP useless and it would basically ruin it. There is an exception tho you can substitute 25 percent of the water with alcohol this makes the charcoal in the BP more poreus and absorbent. This makes the mixture blend better which essentially makes the BP burn faster. But if you do this again make sure there is at LEAST 75 percent water.

@shawnysup not really sure you got that right.for one alcohol doesn't make charcoal more porous OR absorbent, it dissolves more stuff so when it dries out the kno3 n sulfur are deposited in intimate contact w/ charcoal. it like wise does not destroy binder or stop sulfur from working, it may stop something from working but your mechanics of the failure are totaly off, though your end result is possibly correct. I haven't tried.

i tried making black match fuze with just water/alchohol and gp, and the bp ended up just wearing off too fast during handling, and i had 25% failure rate on my fourth of july show. gotta either make some dextrin or buy some fuse.

I have a tip for anyone watching this video, leave the string hanging over night to dry! When the fuse is still wet it causes radical changes of the fuse's burning speed! But I like the authors little machine to make the fuse, that i will give you chips on.
