From Sweden it´s quite easy: Hop on the Stena at Göteborg, it brings you directly to Kiel overnight. And the club is just a few km away. Their layout is open on weekends in December and January: Look under "Termine" on "mec-kiel de"

der schweizer zug bei 5:15 ist sowieso falsch zusammengestellt... ich hab hier in der schweiz noch nie gesehen dass 2 loks so angehängt werden... wir benutzen dafür einen steuerwagen am ende des zugs... und die re460 ist sowieso stark genug um so einen zug über die steilsten strecken zu ziehen auch ohne hilfe von ner 2ten lock... also eine lok könnte weg und anstelle davon einen Intercity EW IV steuerwagen

Model railway layouts are always under construction. E.G. I find all the time in my small layout things to do, how to make them more perfect etc..

Ahh and you video reminds me that I want to replace the old overhead traction system by an own construction. :) Very good video!

This layout is superb! Love the attention to detail. Especially liked the trams and the mountain section with the ICE train passing through. If only I had a space big enough one like this. Amazing!

Eine schöne Anlage auch wenn die Züge zum Teil etwas flott unterwegs sind.

Sehr beeindruckende Anlage und sehr schönes Video! Nur ist mir das gleiche aufgefallen, wie lamMagPie: die züge fahren viel zu schnell, das könnte man vielleicht mal verbessern.

Das Problem an der Anlage ist, dass sie komplett Analog gesteuert wird. Die Spannung(Max 11,5 V) wird über eine Eigene Steuerung geregelt u. ist an Modelle aus früheren Jahren angepasst. Da Neue Modell oftmals stärkere Motoren haben rasen diese leider auf manchen Abschnitten.

Wenn die Spannung reduziert werden würde, würden ältere Modell sehr kriechen u. d. Fahrplanbetrieb aufhalten.

5* from me. But I think some of the trains are running too fast. You never see freight trains go 200 km/h in the real world. Slow them down. Soft starts and stops. Then it's even more realistic.

Are all trains Märklin?

And another thing: I had to laugh at the man @ 5:20 trying to "fix" the derailed train. There will be a lot of fun when the train comes back around and crashes into the cars standing still on the track

Ist von Österreich aber reichlich weit, Kiel liegt fast ganz im Norden (an der Ostsee). Der Club macht die Anlage aber nur an den 4 Adventswochendenden für Besucher zugänglich.

I think it's computer controlled ... There's software out there, which you can use to "draw" the layout of your railroad system on the computer and to control the switches ...

Thank you for the reply about the catenary. We too have false catenary but we still run the trains with the pantographs in contact with the wire. We feel it more authentic but it does have a few problems. Your video still very interesting.

see Statistics+Data for the exact location. It is in Kiel, Germany - but it´s only open before christmas.

Hamburg ("Miniaturwunderland") and Berlin (LOXX) have public layouts.

no, the layout itself does not represent Kiel. They tried to build the original Kiel main station years ago, but it turned out to be too complicated to control. This is just a pure fantasy layout.

- The MEC is 52 years old

- There are 50 members (until now only male)

- The size is 150 square meters

- Trains 70 to 80

- Track-length 500 meters

- Biggest station "Mechheim" 10 platforms, 2 through- and 4 blunt-tracks and any sidetracks.

Next to the station are both railway operating workshops for steam and electric engines.

- The workshop to build this Model-Railway ist only once a week, on wednesday in the time from 18h to 22h.

6:42 shows the famous DB class 103, truly representing those old days in the 70s - 80s. Its streamlined looking, speed, power... simply the DB electric engine that I like most!

Why do they run the trains so fast on this layout. One thing I like with american layouts is that they run their trains in a slow pace.

I never could understand this, but the steam lok has a tender with a "cab" on the back of it. I've wondered, what is the cab for?

this is a class BR50. It is a freight train locomotive and the tender has been equipped with a cab for additional personnell (in the 1950´s). You cannot operate the loco from there of course.
