I wish she was but no. I am planning to have most finished by the end of this summer and move from this location to where I will place the second deck on and an extintion to the bow. My hope is that she be in the water by next mid-summer. If I don't make that schedule I will wait to float her the next spring. I will make a short video in a day or so so everyone can see the progress. Thanks.
HOW cool is that!!! I grew up with the highlight of the summer being a ride on a sternwheeler on a big lake!! I will search your vids for more of this project. I bet at idle you can cruise 5 knots... Is that a regular automatic tranny on the end?
Yes it's a 400 turbo. I've been told it's exactly what's needed for the low torque that's needed for a paddlewheeler. It will take off on a 6 part V belt to a 30 to 1 gear reduction.
What an interesting project. Any reason for a V-belt? Chain is usually more durable and cheap. Sheaves are about the same price as sprockets, in fact, I think multi-v sheaves are quite pricey. Well, cant wait to see a video of it under way.
V-belt will allow for slippage when things get tangled up in the wheel. There's lots of money tied up in the 30 to 1 gear reduction box and the belts should keep that safe. At least that's what the experts have told me.
@BlakeMason2 it's a 400 Turbo Hydromatic, a standard with this motor on many cars and trucks. I just installed the driveshaft and she turns at 8 RPM's in low and 18 RPM's at Low 3.
I was told it was out of an old 1993 Freto-Lay truck. I bought it last winter in Toledo Ohio. It is being installed into a Sternwheel boat I am building from scratch. I hope to have it completed within the next 2 years. It all started as a retirement project and was a small project at first, but has kinda taken on a life of it's own and is now looking like 14' wide by 55' long. Thanks for the comment,
