His diversity helps him enter many different markets, whether or not monetary gain is the motive (I'm certain it's not). Music to me is meant to inspire emotions - give you a high, pick you up when you're feeling shit, chill you out, let off steam - i.e. give you a positive emotional experience. Like a lot of modern pop I can't figure out what this is meant to make you feel. Retarded, confused, angry? Wolfmother is about chilling, not taking the world too seriously and having fun. Which their music inspires. Maybe you guys just listen to stuff that you think will make you cool and don't really feel anything.

@fatShowPony great point. i think what pulls these people together though is the desire to appreciate something that isn't bursting with impudent cliche. wolfmother is not a bad band, but they are highly derivative of a style that is so, so tired and and no, they haven't "brought it back". it was also perfected a world away from theirs and a generation before. that's synthesis, not art.

@nerdyharry Fair call - I don't think they're highly original either but original enough and have the energy in their live performances that the old bands just cant muster. People claim they are a rip off of Zepp but I hear a lot of Uriah Heep and Sabbath in their music. For me listening to big dumb rock is the ultimate way to unwind after a hard day and whether its highly original doesn't bother me. And yes I do thoroughly enjoy some Patton stuff, just never been a fan of art for arts sake.
