My guess is that at the end its about losing innocence because the little girl just watched all the other kids in a game fall or its a metaphor because it was a game and at the end of the play 'war' , everyone had fallen except the little girl.

They were playing Native Americans and settlers I guess- and the little girl, someone's sister got scared and ran. She heard everything though and is the only survivor.

hence in wars the person who acts on the fear often is the one who survives.
