  • Straight out of a H.P. Lovecraft story.

  • It whistles because the wind blows through the pipes. The pipes are like penny whistles and they are pointed in all directions so no matter where the wind comes from some of the pipes will have wind travelling through them (so long as there is some wind). It is located on the brow of a windy hill, so this helps.

  • how did they get it to whistle? i'm wanting to make somthing like this as a project in my welding class and i have the supplies but i don't know how to get the pipes to sing. is there any kind of tutorial anywhere?

  • You can see planes. The video is speeded up so it looks like they are travelling really fast

  • did i see a comet flying down the sky?

  • sounds like walking to the path of dead....can you imagine walking at night with that sound in the background? I would imagine something dragging me by my legs in the back ready to mutilate me...

  • @34comecome When I set up my equipment it was pitch black. Didn't really know which direction to point the camera! At first it didn't make much noise but as the sun rose, the wind lifted and the sound increased. It was very eerie all alone up there. Hobbit territory!

  • @jonathanbrind macarrones! I can only imagine. Where is this place?

  • was this designed after an english mans teeth?

  • Beautiful idea ShadowSoldior and possibly true.

  • When all of humanity has disappeared, and the world has finally gone dark and silent, will this still be there, playing the ghostly wail of centuries over and over again?

  • I love it!

  • It has a very uncanny atmosphere. All alone, surrounded by emptiness and passing clouds, withstanding storms and abyssal midnights.

I would definitely use it for a film.

  • @Paperhouse81 Thanks it certainly feels eerie if you get there before dawn when there's no-one around. By the way I like Neil's theme (is it?). Would make great background for the right documentary.

  • @jonathanbrind Yes, its called "Neil's theme", its actually on the "Mysterious Skin" soundtrack, its the first song. I LOVE THAT ALBUM! He is a great musician. But yes, this piece of machinery fascinates me.

  • its scary and errily hypnotic.. i think its intended purpose, for invitation, and hypnotization.... ive always had a strong intuition about synchronisity and coincidences... being a fan of "movies" one of my favorite directors is david lynch.. he not only directs, but makes music, paints, etc, etc... this reminds me alot of mulholland dr. (and at least, most everything else by him) ... to me, it just seems things are getting a little more circle..

  • I prefer the green, living tree that replenishes, shades among other things. Admittedly this is rather beautiful -in a detached ,pure form ,post- human kind of way . Call me when mechanical birds raise their young in their nests made of wire then will gladly reconsider :-)

  • C'est une splendide sculpture musicale merveilleusement filmée. Le vent voyageur que l'on entend semble revenir des mers de l'espace.

  • I wounder how much its worth if you scrap it?

  • おおーすげー

  • what was that behind the sculpture at 1:09 ?

  • @bjuisex holy shit, lookd like an upward shooting star...

  • @bjuisex theres another one, that goes downward, from the same spot, at 1:30

  • @CIarkNova You seem to like WSBurroughs too. Very, very cool.

  • @bjuisex I think those are airplanes. The video is sped-up time lapse. Notice how fast the clouds move and the sun rises.

  • @louisxiiii i do... havnt read very many of his things, but he is genious... its funny, cause i just came across him, noone told me about him..

  • wow how creepy!

  • god i live 3 miles from Burnley and have never seen it. I only heard about it recently and have lived here 4 years!

  • I did some research about this sculpture because I found it very interesting. I was disappointed to know it was only 3m tall :( Thought it would be much more monumental...

  • Welcome to LV-426.

  • Reminds me of the beginning of 2001 Space Odyssey

  • @deeze67 I think these are planes. Still, nice.

  • It is weird but it's like that. A great place to be at dawn. Wish I could be there tomorrow (in London right now).

  • This is weird. It's like it's the only thing left on earth. Everyone is gone and this is standing sentinel on a lonely hill. It makes me think of the movies 2001, A Space Odyssey and Langoliers.

  • 1:09 and 2:25 - falling stars :) amazing!

  • @deeze67 Think it's the fuselage of ajet catching the rising sun.

  • Different sized pipes, shapes and thicknesses as well as lengths and movement would make cool noises.

  • oha, i´m a pussy, it´s too scary to go there when it´s dark xD

  • amazing idea!

  • I love listening to wind chimes and would LOVE hearing this too!

  • belissimo suono. ho paura quando li ascolto

  • There are a number of vids of this sculpture, but this one is by FAR the best. Well done!

  • They should make it so it spins around in the wind, that would be cool.

  • @shadywalker or not.....

  • @ZoePohlmann13 It totally should spin. I dont care what you have to write

  • I think it's wicked that the Burnley residents et al are using their cleverness and resources to literally create change through sculpture and the choice to imagine and take action for a positive future for their space on the globe.

  • To me the Singing Ringing Tree sculpture is a symbol of our eternal marriage with nature, and our talent for generating resources from nature and using them positively and creatively, for our own survival.

I think it's a gorgeous addition to the landscape, and I'd love to hear it sing in person, someday.

    Cheers, Burnley folks!

  • The genious architector...

  • Those are aircraft passing over and leaving contrails. As the video is slightly speeded up, it just looks odd seeing the planes move even faster than normal!

  • WTF are the things in the sky and theres this rely fast flash of yellow that you have to pause to see

  • sleeping mext to it at night would be scary

  • O_O;;

It sounds very... Silent Hill D:

    AWESOME.

  • Why is it eerie? I think it has a soft soothing sound. Anyway, it would be cool to have about an hour or so of the "tree singing" on audio recording.

  • Did anyone see the shooting star at 1:10 above the wind tree, OR WAS IT? sounds like an instrument that is talking to the land and the spirits that may Rome within.

  • @toobyanbinoo

The footage looks a little sped up actually.

It may have just been a plane.

  • @toobyanbinoo Also. you see something similar at 1:33 so I doubt it's a shooting star. Pretty sure it's a plane.

  • @toobyanbinoo And again at 1:46

    And another at around 2:29

No shooting stars here, me thinks.

  • also another right after, right above the tree... pretty sweet action

  • the idea is awesome but the sculpture, massively ugly. that's a shame in this landscape. let's think about the ancient organ makers, notably in france.

  • Where exactly can I find this wonderful thing? I want to stand there and listen to it. :-)

  • It is in Burnley, Lancashire, England, UK, on Crown Point, hills overlooking the town. It is quite well sign posted and you can see it from most parts of the town.

  • FCKING AWESOME!

  • wow what a good vid you get to see the tree and a sunset

  • Who's the sculptor/artist? Please let it be a local...

I think it is one of the most powerful pieces I've come across in a while, must check it out in person before I die.

  • this Sculpture is Art Jim Commisioned by a forward thinking Burnley Council. the location is at Crown Point, on the moorland overlooking Burnley.Pendle Hill.

  • If only someone could go there with a proper wind protected stereo microphone and record an hour or so. I´d buy the audio.

  • @wertstahl ill give it a go later in the week im only a few miles from crown point road where this is

  • @rscosworthfan that would be so awesome!

  • @wertstahl no probs

  • Well impressed Jonathan. The time lapse works extremely well with the tree in fine voice.

    Hugh the Railmon

  • Did you make this video Johnathon? It's very beautiful.

  • i like humans!

    i want that tree!

    i am mesmerized!

  • Great video of the Tree. It wasn't singing when we went there today, but I definitely want to revisit. Going at dusk or dawn, as seen in this vid, looks like a pretty cool thing to do!

  • Awesome sculpture and cool video.
