  • 18 Dislikes..!! WTF DINT THEY HAD ANY MOTHER!!!!

  • TRANSLATION PART 2 Listen, o my pain, Love is that butterfly Which is pinned forever to a stake. Love is that bee, From whom desire, Stays miles away. Love is that palace Where nothing lives Except for the birds. Love is that hearth Where the colored bed of fulfillment, Is never laid. Mother, tell him not to Call out the name of his dead friends So loudly in the middle of the night. When I am gone, I fear That this malicious world, Will say that my songs were evil. Translation by ASIF AHMAD*
  • TRANSLATION PART 2 I am still young, And need guidance myself. Who can advise him? Mother, would you tell him, To clench his lips when he weeps, Or the world will hear him cry. Tell him, mother, to swallow the bread Of separation. He is fated to mourn. Tell him to lick the salty dew On the roses of sorrow, And stay strong. Who are the snake handlers From whom I can get another skin? Give me a cover for myself. How can I wait like a jogi At the doorstep of these people Greedy for gold?
  • TRANSLATION PART 1 Mother, o mother, My songs are like eyes That sting with the grains of separation. In the middle of the night , They wake and weep for dead friends. Mother, I cannot sleep. Upon them I lay strips of moonlight Soaked in perfume, But the pain does not recede. I foment them With warm sighs, Yet they turn on me ferociously.

  • Complete translation of this song.

Some one blamed that Punjabi people don’t know their mother language fully, it is true to some extant. But this song is Hybrid among five languages of subcontinent. Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi, Sraiki (Sindi mix) Pothohari (Kashur mix ). To enjoy the song fully I tried to translate this song…..

    [Engr. Sabir Hussain 25/8/2011]

  • @sabirhussain514 - thanks alot Sabir Bahi, I ve heard this song a million times, but listening to it again while reading your translation gave me some new meanings as well, Thnaks for the great work, keep it up. God bless you.

  • Lovely voice and lovely writing shiv kumar batalvi sahib

  • i m just crazy abt shiv's writings. ustad's magic has added so.

  • It is a very nice song!

  • out of this world SINGING BY THIS LEGEND.i KNOW NOBODY KNOWS ITS POET,ITS "SHIV KUMAR BATALVI" WHO PASSED AWAY IN 1973.......SALUTES TO SHIV

  • This is indian punjabi, thats why its hard to understand some words. In pakistani punjabi we use a lot of words from urdu.

  • Long live Punjabi language and culture. The people who will forget their mother language will regret when it is too late.

  • @tsnav - exactly - we Panjabis have sacrificed our language for Pakistan. If you go to Peshawar or Hyderabad the people still speak Pashto and Sindhi - they remember their roots but Panjabis have forgotten theirs. Even in Hindustan people speak Hindi and not Panjabi.

I think Panjabi should be taught in schools so our kids learn it properly like we never had the chance to. What a beautiful language:

"Bhe bhe saughandya vich, bana phehe channani che, tanvi sadi peer na save" - what a line

  • Lucky people who's mothers are still alive, please love them, respect them and try never to keep them far from your eyes, you really feel alone when you do not have the shadow of you mother around you..... Ammi I am missing you so much and how unlucky I am that I can now never see you again... May Allah bless your soul and may you all mothers have blessed health Ameen

  • usman yr kasam sa ap k comment ny rula hi dia hi Allah ap ko sabr dy mry bhi

  • @hunza143 I'm not a muslim ... buddy. But I sense your sadness cos just a few months ago, I lost my father. Believe me, loosing the father or loosing a mother is same. I just cannot come in terms why the God, who they say, created the world, can create such a suffering of loosing one's parent and still claim Total Control over the Creation and then make you loose your Parent. I wish all children like us, die with their parent's death so there's no one to feel the suffering. It's unbearable.

  • @SeekerLicious I'm sorry for your loss and I lost my father through cancer. believe me when I say i dont ever want the hurt to stop. Remember death to god is like taking one person from one room to the next.

  • mae ni maee!!!!.......

    Ammi jiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii........

    love u soooooooooooooooooooooo much...... <3<3<3

    great writer nd grt singr...

  • This is my grandfather's favourite song :)

  • @jabtad agreed... Punjabi isn't even an official language in the province nor is it taught in schools... this is ridiculous... we should learn from our friends across the border... the state of Punjab has made the language official and ensures that all kids learn it

  • Too Good. Nusrat singing Shiv Batalvi. What more do you want.

  • He Is a Master Of All Era !

  • :(

  • "Maae ni maae Mere geetaaN de naena vich BirhoN di raRak pave! beautiful lyrics sung by a magician.

  • it's high time that the punjabis of pakistan start speaking their mother tongue again.Being ashamed of one's own language or culture is one of the worst things in life. It's time punjabis start feeling proud of their language, culture just as much as the sindhis or pathans who take great pride publicly in their language & culture.

  • please come once again in this world Shiv kumar Batalwi and nusrat fateh ali khan. we need your writings and sinjging again.

  • u GREAT Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. U great

  • My mother was great source of inspiration for me. She left us in 1996. These lines of NFAK have refreshed my memories. Each word truly described the love of mom towards her kid. Great voice of NFAK. Just sunk in it. Lajawab!

  • ufffh.....

  • great & beautiful music by king of qawals

  • GR8888888888888888888888888888 waoooooo kiya baat hai janab ki

  • beautiful song.a pity that many ppl don't understand the lyrics. The punjabis of today have no regart for their language or for punjabi culture. In lahore, pindi, faisalabad ,urdu is spoken more nowadays than the mother tongue punjabi.

  • @jabtad ,sadly you are right. The blame for punjabis not speaking punjabi falls with the punjabi parents, who choose to speak with their childern in urdu or english but not their own mother tongue,so the punjabi children of today grow up not speaking their mother tongue. The other ppl like sindhis, pathans, memons, urduspeaking are rightly proud of their languages & celebrate their culture.

  • @jetulkk try 2 understand,its a beautiful song...

  • @jetulkk i agree with both of you. frankly speaking we punjabis feel shame in speaking punjabi that is pity. all people feel proud in speaking their mother tounge. then why just we feel shame? we have to work on it to find reasons

  • @jetulkk not every one but still people speak punjabi with teir children

  • we speak punjabi every day...

  • @jetulkk so what yar im from Lahore too but doesn't really matter if we speak Punjabi or Urdu secondly urdu is our identity bcoz its our national language we are Pakistani 1st not Punjabi

  • @jabtad

It is offending me deeply that no miter has understood the message of Shiv and Nusrat. It is completely nonsense to believe here Shiv is talking about his mother what a nonsense. He is talking to his metaphorically about his life and impending misery of his relationship. Please don't insult second best punjbai prose penned after Bulah e Shah. Try to learn and understand the words.

  • i agree with u

  • I just cant understand the words. Please, can anyone translate to me,

    on english, please!

  • @vmemak

Thanks for the comments. In this soft and melodious rendering, NFAK is paying tribute to "mother". The relationship of mother and child is best of all relationships and above all worldly possessions.

You want translation. Well, these are typical Punjabi words and some expert in Punjabi language would be able to do justice to these great lines. However, thanks for enjoying these lines and the singer who made these lines immortal.

  • Beautiful music!!! I love it! I can say that music realy brings people together, and Your music is realy beautiful and verry original!
