Did this man sell his collection as of early 2012? I used to get a lot of my vinyl from a man named Jim Danas in Queens, NY. Another great collector, he was.
What the hell he is talking about by the way? 83%? Is he talking about songs that nobody has or about songs that are not COMMERCIALLY available?
I mean, people have uploaded millions of songs by unknown artists on sites like YouTube that you can't BUY anywhere, but are still available for free. Could someone specify?
The title is a bit misleading. He has a vinyl collection. It would be great if a university bought it and turned it into a music library. That way anyone could access the collection.
What a shame that he obviously has no adult children who'd take over the collection & love it as much as he does. If it was me, just for the love of the music, I would donate the entire collection for cataloguing in a major museum - as long as the collection remained intact.
why doesnt he open a online shop? yeah hes blind, but if he knows people ho can help him, than ge gets some fuckt up aload off money. please sir, you have to do this, my father want some shit and i like to buy some shit!
Anyone who collects music, whether it be CDs, cassettes, vinyl, etc. understands how sad this is. He's offering this for 3 million. That's about 1 or 2 dollars per record when some of these are worth thousands. It's a shame that the people in this world that ARE rich are too superficial to ever buy something as valuable as this.
Its spelled Vinyls and I wish I could make this guy's day by buying this collection for twice as much as its worth. I pray to the good man upstairs that he finds the collector who will cherish these beautiful records and that he gets a ton of money in return for the effort that he put into it!
If I was a billionaire, I'd buy this for like, 5 or 10 million. Then I'd put it somewhere like a museum. I honestly can bet that I wouldn't like most of this music, but you can't let that amount of music go to waste.. Music can and has shaped history, it's too important to throw away, whether you like that genre or not.
I hope this treasue, this man life's work won't go to waste, because it's priceless. So much love is in this collection. Such a sad story :((((( I wish I had a million bucks to buy all of this and preserve it, so it lasts for years to come.
Everyone has its own eccentricities. I am a collector too but only one artist and only cds. One collector has to know when it is too much or it is such a waste of 'life'. One has too include other people too. Not just objects. When its too much, its called greed. Because you can't bring them with you to heaven.
The government should buy it and make a museum/ archive of it. It doesn't seem so important now but in a couple of years it will be a treasure of unimaginable value. Otherwise all that recorded music will just be gone and that's just not acceptable.
@rancidsexbeast I don't think Id buy it no, because it will be inevitably downloadable on the internet anyway, sorry but its true even if I ain't really answering your question but then again Im not a big music lover like this guy is. Also just sayin, the title should be "Biggest VYNIL collection".
@rancidsexbeast I would cry because I brought all that shit, knowing that deep down, which ever band I brought it from probably is just glad I payed their dinner for that night with one CD, and probably doesnt give a shit about you, that would make me cry, of course thats just my point of view :/
cd's have qualites better than records. there easy to carry around and you can play them in your car. I cant say the same about records. I have a great cd collection I am proud of next I will work on records buying bulks at a time but I wont buy records to actually listen to the thing.
@IceKoldKilla1992 guinness. not genius. complete different words. guinness is a beer. genius is an extremely intelligent person or someone with an excellent idea
If I had the money I would probably be interested in buying the whole collection but where do you find a guy that haves $50 million to burn on records??? Just focus on selling the rare ones for the highest price.
Wow what a great program. Where is it from? Makes me feel a little guilty that I don't collect records myself. I have planned to, but they aren't very compatible so I would listen to them less.
It is sad, but what you want most of us to do? You cant archive everything man kind does! Where would we store everything ever made? I do not know why some super rich guy doesnt buy this store and keep it as a collection. Maybe they can digitaly store most of it for the future. Think of every indie band, should we save all those too? There has to be a point where you let some things go...
@RymanTV i agree with you, i'm only twelve (lol) but i've got 227 cd's and i haven't ever brought songs off of i tunes or downloaded them. i hate it. I prefer to listen to the music of the actual cd or record. i know what you mean =)
im surprised the rock and roll hall of fame or smithsonian arent interested in this. sad vid. btw who ever posted this is retarded. theyre not cds. 1 million lps + 1.5 million 45s does not equal about 3 million. your grammar is atrocious.
@girshwin1414 So is your's. Those mistakes are not grammar mistakes and you also cannot spell. Btw isn't a word either. Aren't. Not arnt. Look at your grammar before you criticise someone elses.

This man gave his life to music, and look what happened he has to live the rest of his life in worry, and despair because no one wants it or is interested in it. If this guy isn't dead, I would like to go to his shop and fill the fucking cart full.
god vinyl elitists are annoying, feel bad about his medical situation though. I'll take a CD over vinyl, tape, or anything else. My ears aren't as good as others i guess. O Well
I totally understand his plight, and hope and pray that this becomes a museum of some sort. Wish I had $50 mil to pay him, merely for the trouble he has gone to.
i know sell the rolling stones prici single and buy a graveyard for yourselve , when u die buya giand cofin and put urselve and all your ds there lol sorry fr the stupid coment just an idea
I agree with him on most things, except the one about quality. Sure, 128kbps MP3 is very compressed and some songs can sound mushy and the instruments sound somewhat different, not to mention that some of the sounds altogether are lost, but that's what FLAC, ALAC and AAC were made to counter for. A 256kbps AAC file will give you almost the same quality as a CD, but the file is more than 10x smaller. FLAC files are exactly the same quality but manage to compress it to 60% of the original.
I like how you say"but that's what FLAC, ALAC and AAC were made to counter for. A 256kbps AAC file will give you almost the same quality as a CD". To my ears...almost is not good enough.
It should be made a museum! And it should be preserved and taken care of as a cultural memory. And yes, having a physical collection of CDs id much more fun than downloading, to bad it's mostly serious collectors who understands this.
I'm a collector myself and it saddens me to see the state of things today; music stores are closing, younger people limit their music to sound files on a computer, and there is little appreciation for the physical format anymore. Despite that, I will continue to buy CDs and records and my collection will continue to grow. If only I could pony up the $3 million...I would so take that collection and preserve it in the same manner as he did. :)
Man, what is going to happen if he doesn't sell, thats amazing, i really wish i could help him. I bet he has EVERYTHING ever known to music, thats the most overwhelming collection ever, where would i start if i wanted to look for something different, i would have half the store if i looked for that. its realy sad
I wish him luck!
