i bought the Director's Series Chris Cunningham dvd and i got cheated out of a lot of videos, this being one of them, that sucks!! anyone know why this happened? this is a cool song...
CC hates his early works, he admits that he did any music video that he was asked to do to try and hone his skills and build his name, thats why its not on the DVD :)
Ross stated that a new 12 Rounds record was finished a couple years ago, but a release looks pretty bleak since Nothing is defunct. What I ask myself is why won't Ross just release on net, Reznor style. They might not get much profit out of it, but they shouldn at least release it for the fans, it's not like he needs the money, he's rich.

I can definitely see the similarities in this song, and glory box.. but jesus. PH is so vastly overrated. they're really not that great. Claude's voice suits the sound so much better, i think.
I love this song. I've been looking nearly everywhere for it, but there is only the one album available on Amazon, Ebay, etc, and it doesn't have this song. How do I get this song?
I can see what album (or rather EP) it's on, but I can't find a copy of that anywhere. As I said, I've looked on Amazon & Ebay to buy it, but I can't find it.
12 Rounds is a phenomenal band. I can see how people would make some sort of a correlation with them and Portishead, but 12 Rounds is much darker. I love them both, but really comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges.
Exactly. I think the vocals are actually a lot closer to Nina Simone than Beth Gibbons, but whatever. I guess it's natural for people to think in abstracts.
I suppose some people would accuse The Cure of blatantly ripping-off Siouxsie and the Banshees, too, or Alicia Keyes of ripping-off Tori Amos on account of their both being female vocalists who play the piano.
"Hurrrr, it has a similar tempo and they also use theremins and vibraphones! Therefore, it's a blatant ripoff despite the vast difference in vocals, lyrical content, agressive guitar work, etc. etc.!"
The thing about "stealing" another band's sound is that EVERY band is guilty of it. That's exactly what pushes music forward. Portishead's sound didn't just come out of thin air. Ever hear of a band called United Future Organization? Give em a listen and then tell me Portishead didn't directly lift sounds and riffs from them. That's what's so cool about popular music. The next generation pays homage to the people who inspired them and shares that sound with younger fans.
I just don't understand how anyone could make music so derivative of another artist's work. How do they sleep at night??? I'll wait for the next Portishead album. I've already waited 10 years or so. I understand influence, but damn, they're not even try to hide it!
An amazing and understated band. Selling albums does equal money, but not creativity. Money gets the albums heard, but struggle creates the intensity in the music. And where there is poverty, there is struggle. Where there is struggle, there is purity in the art. 'My Big Hero' is an amazing album.
Sampling isn't stealing since the author of the sample receives a share of the royalties from record sales and must legally be cited in the sleevenotes. These guys seem to owe a lot of their sound to Portishead, but good for them, I love Portishead :D
Portishead's also "stealin" from other bands. In "gimme a reason" thing, the whole music apart from the beat and vocals is "stolen". Well, yea. It's stolen.
Portishead kicks ass, don't get me wrong. But I don't see how the PH fantards can accuse 12 Rounds of ripping off "Glory Box" with this song - the similarities between songs don't justify the accusation against their artistic integrity. 12 Rounds is clearly a different band with their own style that makes dark music with interesting female vocals.
Very good, thnx for the extensive video description !!!
BTW, Cunningham made a music video for Portishead too. And although this music is sounding close to Portishead, I think it clearly has it's own personality, it's not a "copy" of PH.
Yes, it is. Although I believe in stealing, is not right to steal many elements of one particular band at once, not to say ALL elements at once, 12rounds are not stupid, they should know better, way better...
ok this is my first time hearin of this group and im sad that i didnt hear of them earlier :0( but im totally diggin it and now ima dl some of thier stuff
if more ppl know the band the band can sell more and if they can sell more they can keep making music, more ppl listenin, more songs for those who like it.
With the money Trent has these days he could bring Nothing back and have it as an indie label like Important records.
