And concerning war in Europe, US contribution was helpful, but 80 % of German forces were destroyed on eastern Russian front when US troops landed in western Europe, not only in France, even if Soviets were crushed at the start, like all Europe was. When US came in 1917, both German and French were exhausted after 4 years of hell. This help was useful, but not vital. It would have been a question of some extras months for the French and British to finish this war. You can't compare battles as Belleau woods, with butchery and massacres as Verdun or Somme. US WW1 involvment was almost a joke. It's the French who mostly stopped the Germans in WW1, despite that they were less numerous.US fought 6 months.The French 4 years.

French fighters were not only Hollywood beret resistance craps. There were 7 French infantry divisions, and 3 armored involved in Europe in 1945. The French fought everywhere, from North Africa, until Italy, passing by south France landings, in the Dragoon operation in August 1944, and many other battlefields, like the Alps or eastern France. Contrary to US audience who knows wars, only in news, or in movie theaters, wars were real things for the French in their backyards.

Except the last one Dien Bien Phu, in 1954, because everything was already politically fixed with Vietnamese government for French withdrawal. You should talk about Vietnamese casualties, who were at least the double. And concerning war in Europe, US contribution was helpful, but 80 % of German forces were destroyed on eastern Russian front when US troops landed in western Europe, not only in France, even if Soviets were crushed at the start, like all Europe was. British were saved by the Channel. Most of German forces in western Europe were annilihated by air forces, contrary to Russia. 27 millions Soviet losses.

Just remember that modern invasion strategies still ressamble the "Blitzkrieg"-strategy of the Germans in WW2. At that time nobody could have standed the combined attacks of special forces deep behind the frontline and fast bombings raids followed by massive attacks with tanks and regular infantry. The Germans had the most developed weaponry in 1939-1942 PLUS the most disciplined, trained and drilled soldiers. France, Poland and Russia as well at first, collapsed like cardboard houses.

Same thing for WW2.The French lost 100000 killed in 6 weeks of fights in May/June 1940, and inflicted 45000 killed and 111000 woundeds to Germans, before to give up.They also shot down more than 1000 German planes. It probably helped England to not lose their air battle,a few weeks after. It would have been funny to see US troops facing German Blietzkrieg in 1940. Not pretty.Russians were crushed and lost 4 millions prisoners until 1942. England was saved by the Channel sea.

My father is a Lieutenant Colonel in the french army, my mother is a COL in the US army. I know how both armies are, most of you don't. India has a great Navy, and some of the most batshit insane brave soldiers ever, The US has the best technology (for the most part) which exceptional (albeit not the best) training, The UK have the Royal Marines, the SBS, the SAS, as well as France with their units. Point being, ALL militaries are sweet and cool, and they all specialize in certain areas. When all elements are combined, the US does come out on top.
