The moment that Luke recognizes that he must give up his dream of becoming a pilot and joining the rest of his friends and stay at home and help on the farm. Or the other way around i forget?
I've never heard this one before. Incredible. These movies are my childhood. I may be a 90's kid, but that just proves that this is a saga that has deep emotional roots through the ages. And half of it was the music, this music is just one of the most brilliant things ever composed. Goosebumps EVERY TIME! ha
i have never seen stars wars, can you believe that? i give legalos credit and i dont watch fantastic felsm such as this one by goerge lucas, has alot of spritual elements to it, very propehcic lol
(Young Obi Wan gives baby Luke to the young Owen and Beru…they look onto the same horizon Luke will gaze upon in the future….cut to credits) and so the trilogy begins!
@DJLOPEZ08 probably one of my favourite scenes ever. Got goosebumps in the theaters when I saw it. Its just like you said, it's the moment where the old trilogy begins. That binary sun horizon is one of my favourite childhood moments on film, and the fact that it's the same horizon and Luke as a baby is pretty much the best depictions and ties to the old trilogy. It made me go straight home and pop into my dvd SW EIV: A New Hope, and watch it :)
P.S. - If you can find it, check out the alternative version for the binary sunset music in the extended soundtrack from the Special Edition (1997), the track for which actually goes on for ca. 17 minutes and contains early takes of the Main Title music after the 5:00 mark (be patient).
Wow, great mix. I wasn't sure what game it was from, but can definitely spot the music from the movies. It starts off and ends with the wistful music from the Luke looking off into the binary sunset from Star Wars (Episode IV, A New Hope). Between is the music from Darth Vader's funeral pyre in Return of the Jedi (Episode VI) that has a more ethereal quality. I wouldn't have thought to mix the two, but I was pleasantly surprised at the results. Great post!
Great medley! You were correct ID'ing it as being from a Jedi Knight game - it's from JK2: Jedi Outcast, and it plays during the "Jedi Trial" level on Yavin 4 as Kyle Katarn begins to reestablish his connection to the Force (after neglecting it for some years...after falling to the Dark Side for a time in another game "Mysteries of the Sith") and recovers his lightsaber. I loved this track when I first played the game in 2002, and I love it now almost a decade later.
@atrumpars yeah, that is actually the title of the ripped track as well that I have on my pc. Yavin Trial. I remembered Kyle Katarn (isn't that the Jedi in the game?) and I remembered Yavin, I just couldn't remember if it was all in Jedi Knights I or II. Thanks ;)
@theparashooters thank you, only that I didn't actually mix it myself :) It was as is in "Jedi Knights: Jedi Outcast" and I ripped it from the game a while back ;)
@ExplorerXIII well unfortunately you will find me disagreeing with that one... :P
not only because I love SW and don't really like ST, but also because the song symbolizes a much more personal level of a character, the Jedis and the force, the whole idea behind that philosophy of a tale and those two suns... Even the new ST film (which I admit is the only one I like, and I like it a lot too) it just would't go I think. I found that the score made for ST was more fitting than this could ever be.
Fair enough, I would much rather you didnt though, lol :P (not for me, I don't mind it, but for other people that might end up taking the bait and replying :P resulting in arguments that will make my reading time unpleasant, hahaha)...
I really do hope you enjoy the song ;) and the films :) ...both SW & ST ;)
@Nitpicks oh. hahahaha. ok. I think someone else had said a while back that they heard the same song in TOR (a trailer or something) and I thought that perhaps they hadn't mistaken just parts of it and that it was the whole song :P
However it makes me even happier to know that you like it enough to put it on and enjoy it often :) I love this version myself and listen to it more than often when I can :P
Probably the most powerful theme in a movie ever. Just like Gir in the top comments, I never understood it as a kid. I love that French horn and the way Williams uses it is simply amazing. Such a simple melody yet powerful.
comeeee they told him parumpapumpum, a new born king to see parumpapumpum, our finest gifts we bring pa rum pa pum pum, pa rum pa pum pum, pa rum pa pum pum
@ExplorerXIII I don't think he knocked it, he simply said that a Trek Fan disliked the video since there are a lot of fanboys for each side, and thus he/she didn't express an opinion on Trek itself. That is at least what i got from it :P
(I myself don't like Trek, but wouldn't go as far as saying I hate it.... Except for the new Trek film, that I actually really liked)
@ExplorerXIII also, I really do believe that those that like Trek or SW or don't like them respectively have mostly tried both. At least most people that I know that don't like Trek have tried to sit there and watch it and give it a chance. they simply don't like it (like me) no matter how much we try. So, after all, many have indeed tried :P
I don't know many people that like both ST and SW, but I do know few. I guess I'll have to add you to them :)
While I think there are music scores which overall are more impressive than those for Star Wars (including at least three of Williams' off the top of my head), this right here has got to be the most beautiful single piece of music ever written for film. Whether it's the eponymous scene itself, watching Luke set fire to the corpse of his just-redeemed father, or just casually listening to it like this, it never fails to stir my innermost soul, to resonate chills throughout my body.
@IAmTheRatKing I completely agree... SW for me in general isnt too impressive, but there are like 5 songs or more that really hit me! One being Across The Stars for example... :)
@HazaRDReBorn For me it is,since it's a brand example of a fucking epic character, anakin.. Meaning how he had all the power in the universe, but still felt alone and empty,a fate worse than death..I love sw :D
@naevan1 Yeah. I really like that insight of Anakin and it is true.
Now about the music/score I mean that in all, from the 120 or more songs, there are around 30 that I really like, from those 30, there are about 7 that are simply unforgettable to me. So in all I can't say the SW score is the most epic (even though I generally like it) since other scores are more complete song for song (e.g LOTR) but the few songs in SW that make the difference are hard to compare to ;)
@HazaRDReBorn Yeah it's true but oh well, some movies don't even have a single good soundtrack to remember so yeah..I think Star Wars is in the good to epic movies category. Although it's not my fav I do love them. ^_^
@naevan1 In order- Binary Sunset and this one here specifically (of course :P ), Across the Stars, Duel of Fates, Anakin vs Obi Wan, Anakins Betrayal, The Throne Room (as played in the credits of EPIII, simply amazing) the rest are parts. Return to Tatooine (2:50 - which combines also Binary Sunset with Duel of Fates in it's own way), beginning of that song kicking into EPIII with the battle over Coruscant, start of Grievous Speaks to Sidius, The Tide Turns (0:15-1:25). Mostly those :)
@naevan1 Oh, and that song played when Anakin marches on the Jedi Temple in EPIII (also found to be similar in the song Love Pledge and The Arena 2:37 - 3:45 and 4:15 - 6:10). Some really good versions and variations of it where in the game SW: Republic Commando, along with some other great songs in that game... Great soundtrack there too... :) That's about it, I may be forgetting some, and I do like a few more as well just don't find them as epic :)
@BowlofIndoMee from youtube or the game? the game I un-rarred some file that had all the music in it. From youtube, just use a follow the instructions of any given program that you chose for the job.
god the best part is when the lone trumpet comes in with this mournful solo and then the full power of the orchestra comes in with this AMAZING section.
I also find the repeat of it straight after that with all those extra touches and variations (1:00 to 1:55, which is the extra piece in this version) is simply that extra something to the original theme, making it even more powerful... :)
I love this version so much... After all that's why I uploaded it when I noticed it wasn't on youtube :)
@sithgirl13 me too. after this song comes "Across the Stars" for me I think... Also a very sentimental piece from the new trilogy that I find very touching.
@TheGodzillaSithLord true... I'm going to admit that that is one of the reasons I like the new SW as well. i remember being a little kid when the special edition versions of the original movies were re released in theaters and my dad took me to see them. even though i cant stand george lucas, star wars is one of those things im always gonna love no matter what. may the Force be with us :)
@smartcarrollerskates can't stand him? :P I personally wouldn't go as far as saying I can't stand him, after all, when we know nothing on a personal or intimate level of another human being it's hard to express any just feelings at all :)
@cursemarkvictim haha, no need to owe me anything ;) I ripped it off Jedi Knights (the game) like 10 years ago or something, so chances are I don't think the exact version can be found :/

@Enriquezarmy I tried, it kept coming out with weird results and so I stopped trying XD But yeah, if you simply google Star Wars Wallpapers and select high resolution you will have no biggie finding it...
A very powerful tune indeed... I admit it, i'm not the biggest "Star Wars" fan, but i always liked the original trilogy and, uber-fan or not, one cannot deny that its soundtrack is one of the best ever heard in a movie; "Binary Sunset", in particular, has always been my favorite SW music EVER. Not only reminds me of the beginning of Luke's quest and the burden he must carry within, but also of my childhood, a sense of TRUE magic and wonder it's difficult to find nowadays in movies.
@TheDoubleA86 some of the feelings you described are the same for me too... true magic and wonder... and my childhood.... one of my favourite songs of all time...
@BlairAKify hahaha, perhaps in a way we have all written it inside our hearts... But it is the few, like John Williams, that can truly capture the sound of the heart into melody :) and so I am simply glad to have heard it, for it really does speak to the heart. What matters is that I (and all of us) are part of the experience of enjoying it :) You're welcome, it was my easiest and perhaps most satisfying upload ever :)

When I was a kid watching this, I never really understood how powerful the music and the sunset really is.
I'm 15 now, and I tear up a bit.

@Gir78623 same here... I am however now 27, and that stroke of tear still lives...

@Warranderful Why even mention Rebecca Black in the same sentence as Star Wars? Attention whore.
Great music, great films.

@316fuckingrules a little bit, yeah... I can't say that both aren't original in their own way, but they also share some similar attributes :)

Beautiful soundtrack! Bet you wish you could say you wrote it, eh? Thanks for uploading it!
BlairAKify 10 months ago 4
@BlairAKify hahaha, perhaps in a way we have all written it inside our hearts... But it is the few, like John Williams, that can truly capture the sound of the heart into melody :) and so I am simply glad to have heard it, for it really does speak to the heart. What matters is that I (and all of us) are part of the experience of enjoying it :) You're welcome, it was my easiest and perhaps most satisfying upload ever :)
HazaRDReBorn 10 months ago 2
@HazaRDReBorn Very nicely put. :) John Williams is amazing, and I hope he continues on composing for many, many years.
