  • Lots of farb .. blah ... and would people please take the time to read a little about history. The guy using the "states rights" argument really has it all wrong. Read the Confederate Constitution. Read the various states articles of secession. It is right there folks - slavery!!! Yes; slavery!!

If you want to argue that the INDIVIDUAL soldiers fought for many reasons other than slavery - OK - fair enough. But individuals do not make war; political institutions do so get over it!

  • @jamieboston Except for Virginia.

  • My interest in history started with my grandmother's stories as a child. My interest in the Civil war began a few years ago with learning local history and taking a class at our university that was taught by a teacher that opened my eyes. This video did much to inspire me into becoming a civil war re enactor. That and having some camping experience with another organization ( SCA) as well as a love of history and longing to teach it to others.

  • People like that guy depicting the colonel do need to stop making it sound like there's another one of these wars just on the horizon. I say that because they could happen anywhere and at virtually anytime, simply depending on the state of the economy and or social issues that may arise.

  • I'm a reb. All my life since I was a drummer boy at the age of 8 I have been with the Confeds. But that isnt along time considering I'm only 16. =). I usually am at Gettysburg. Every reenactor needs to go to Gettysburg in 2013! That is going to be epic. The 150th anniversery of Gettysburg!

  • dont cross the judge!!

    8th Georgia!

  • Incredibly farby.

It's sad some joe public might wander into a reenactment and meet some of the people in today's reenacting community, especially those in the Civil War. I started out as a farb like we all do, but now I strive every event to better myself and those around me in a friendly way. Too many unrecontructed "reb-federates" refuse to adopt historical accuracy because doing so might actually mean concentrating less on their skewed modern-day political slant than to actual history.

  • It must cost a fortune to outfit yourself in correct period uniform, kit and arms. Good for you men and women who keep this history alive. I'm Canadian and have been interested in Civil War history all my life. I've read that perhaps 50,000 Canadians served. Mostly for the money offered to join the Union, apparrently about $200.

  • but one thing i hate is when you aim your gun at a yank and pull the trigger and they dont take a hit they just stand there and look at you thats wat i just hate

  • yah olny onse in a grate while you shoot at-em they take a hit thats waht makes it cool when it hapends its like you realy killedem ha ha ha

    pvt 28th ga cok

  • I am a authentic reenactor everything that I own for reenacting is purly authentic (non-Farby) i sleep with no shelter half (1/2 a tent) I eat hard tack and slab bacon. I dont follow orders that are not correct (not in the manual) like recover arms after you fire most people go to the ready but i stay and the guys who know better stay at aim with our fingers on the trigger because you fired and arms in civil war time beans the round and the weapon ia a piece.

  • well im a authentic reenactor also and i dont have a tent campaign still all the way

  • Oh I'm sorry my last comment was an oversight. They were worth about $1,000 each. I see eitherway doesnt change the fact that according to the 1860 census barely 385,000 whites and free blacks owned all those slaves across the US. Almost no one on either side owned them.

  • and another thing. It says the slaves in the US in 1860 was worth 2billion dollars? Is that to modern standards? According to the 1860 census across the WHOLE US North East South West there were 3,953,760 slaves. Thats less than 4million. So even if each was worth 1,000,000 the total would be less then even 10,000,000. How are they gettin 2BILLION???

That is unless its modern standards.

    ?????

  • That guy talking at like 12:35 is right. Blacks need to wake up. If they think Lincoln liked them or fought a war to free them....then they need brain surgery.

  • a farby is somthing that looks authenticc, but is not, a farb is someone who uses that kinda stuff, like i have just regular dress shoes cuz my feet grow to fast aand brogans are to exspensive, and i also have a grey blanket w/ black stripes from the army surplus that looks almost perfectly authentinc

  • Great post. Very informative.

  • Declared war because they were already under invasion.

  • i am a civil war reenactor and i do it to have fun and recreate history

  • I do as well, i love when people do these things to help others understand why.

    ColorBearer 78th PVI

Sons Of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Oh and let me point out, The civil war was NOT over slavery. Ships going to Africa bore the American flag, until the emancipation proclimation

  • yes

  • yes i know

  • More rebel historical revisionism

  • yeah, the only truth is that the rebels were three horned devils that would have teamed up with Hitler to wipe out gays and blacks and jews and make everyone go to baptist sunday school while drinking illegal liqour and sodomizing their daughters.

  • the confederate flag is not racist! blacks fought for the confederate army. the union army were racist general sherman left the slaves on the other side of the river and shelled them with artillery fire. i'm a civil war reenactor and i know this. you views on u.s rebel's is nohing but lies and your history is unsound. it was fought over states rights not slavery!

  • informative.. that last bit was interesting too... 4th VA infantry stonewall brigade (startin back up the 5th yee haw!!!)/ 7th Wisc. I comp. Iron Brigade
