The album cover for "PINUPS" was soooooo bad in its day, my 13 year old in 1973 day, and I loved the album......all covers but taken up a few notches, "Love on ya David"
"a cover of The Merseys"....which was a cover of "the McCoys". something i just discovered tonight - never knew about the mersey's version. i've thought all these years it was a david bowie song - he perfected it, for sure. i checked out the McCoys version - not terrible, when put in context. "pop" band at the fringe/beginning of garage rock straight outta indiana/the midwest. still, i will never forgive that band for "hang on sloopy". ugh. it'll be stuck in my head now for days.
One of best recordings I have ever heard, the arrangements are near perfect Drums, bass, Violin etc and Bowie's voice is real smooth, love the Sax break it's spot on, hard to find songs as good as this and recorded as well these days!
The first single i bought... cost 37.5 p... full price. Lotta money back in the day... Nearly 4Bob.. Had 'The port of Amsterdam' on the B side... Worth the price on its own.
I love the way he can touch my heart with his songs. This song makes me cry when I remember that I love a girl with long blonde hair and the eyes of blue, and the only thing that I ever got from her was sorrow. Bowie for fuckin' ever.
In an interview Bowie said that he bought a load of costumes and told his band they had to wear them. The band said "no way are we wearing them", Obviously Bowie got his own way and they wore them,The rest is history.
totally fucking gorgeous, a complete one-off - this is what talent is...I salute you Mr Bowie for giving us years of beautiful, rocking, amazing music
So great! March 1974, my 12th birthday, this single as a gift from my brother, my first record ever, on the flipside Brel's Amsterdam. Can anyone have a better start as a record collector? Later in my life Hard'n'Heavy, then Punk, Independent, Post Punk, 60s Trash, Soul, Mod, Acidhouse, in the 90s Drum'n'B. but I always got back to Bowie! Now I don't know who is God. David Bowie or Paul Weller? Probably they are both gods! "Sorrow", so great! Whole Pin Up's is such a wonderful 60's tribute
@xXmakingwishesXx Same here. How I fell in love with him was by seeing the Labyrinth and now, as a teenager, I'm into his music. I'm your age and I always think "WHY WAS I BORN IN THE WRONG ERA??" He's so amazing, but I probably won't even ever meet him U___U
@BerrizzyProductions I've been obsessed with Bowie since I was 5 (11 years now) and he gets more perfect every day. You have much to look forward to ;)
@Lenora1854 LOL Awesome comment.. Thank you for making me smile! :) I think having a crush on him in this video would still make u a lesbian tho.. when he puts his head down and looks at the camera all sultry like, he kinda looks like a chick.. either way, im sure he made alot of people bi sexual
Keith st, by Oh Mercy video is a rip off of this song and when i mentioned it on the comments section in the Keith st vid they blocked me lol. Oh mercy are a bunch of wankers.
So you must be 14 I guess, and you like Bowie, you have my admiration, it is no easy to find someone so young who likes the old artists... you are a hope (musically talking) of your generation.
@bluesmol73 Thank you! I like to think so too. Bowie is my God. Along with the likes of Queen, Mott the Hoople, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure... all the greatest.
@chloenoire how old are you hun? i got into bowie in the late 70's and my parents were horrified lol, he is still my hero and marc bolan etc..good on you xx
@69millybabe I'm 15, but I got into Bowie when I was 13. Both my parents are very ... contemporary? And like all this modern crap. It's a bit reversed from what it's 'supposed' to be, ahaha. I love Bowie, so much. xx
@chloenoire - i'm 39 and i feel sorry for young people like yourself having to dig deep into the past to find good music - it's a shame that most of the rubbish / bland music churned-out these days is putting the younger generation off music............but, hey.....who cares.......there's always Bowie :)
This album is really worth the money. Bowie plays the songs from the London scene in the late 60's. "See Emily Play" cover is also really outstanding on this album.
@immersivemusic-Thanks for the info! Bowie's not only an AMAZING talent, he's a brilliant, clever man. So many artists get ripped off by rich men in black suits who know NOTHING about music. It must suck so BAD to have your rights stolen. Saying F*** You to the "man" Bowie beat them in the most divine way! A beautiful cd, SO under-rated. I was gifted w/the name Sorrow by my love who would tease me & say, "With your long blond hair & eyes of blue the only thing I ever get from you is Sorrow"
Pinups is a great record! I read he tried to get back some of his publishing rights from the label/publisher and they wouldn't budge. So, in a "I'll show them" moment, he did all cover versions on this album with songs held by different publishers so his label/publisher wouldn't get any income on the publishing end. He did this to fulfill his contractual obligation and to force his record label into sharing future publishing on songs he wrote and apparently it worked. In the end, he got what he
