i sympathize with anyone who was abused in any way, i do not condone it all. However, my point was this movie just seems unrealistic to me. how can she love her father into her mid adulthood, and than one day wake up and say he raped her.

@saywhat248 Suppressed memories from childhood, especially early childhood, can literally be locked away so tight it's like it never happened. It usually takes triggers for the trauma to come back. Abuse victims suffer from PTSD.

@cirrutopia , so true. People need to let go of their biases and stereotypes. Abuse, including incest, happens in all walks of life, and probably happens more than we know. Most of the perpetrators feel they have the right to do what they do, which is frightening to think about. And how the victim suffers long-reaching and devastating affects.

i know what it is to be incest, it is a THING that one can never escape ever in life the memory's of it is there all ones life and never lets go.So we try to move on and get past it some succeeds and other fail some fall into addiction like myself, i am dealing with it one day @ a time. and other doing it to there kids,nieces.nefew,ect ..the point is it is very HARD to set past this we just cope with it one day @ a time.

I know how you feel because I'm 42 and everything brings it all back again.A certain scent or smell or if some one looks like the abuser. I've had dreams about my abusers all my life and I wake up wanting to kill and wondering when I would forget.Sometimes I want to confront my grandmother because I feel she let it happened and my mother .M y mom was molested as a child and when I was bornand she left me in that sick environment with those perverts .

No matter what that abuse is, it will still affect you somehow. I am only now, at age 25 getting to a happy place in life, after 20 years of extreme unhappiness stemming from abuse of many forms from the people that were supposed to care for me, love me, protect me, support me.

I am still a work in progress but I am proud and happy of myself that I made it here and have finally gotten the chance to feel Real love, joy and happiness.

I surpressed my nightmare for over 40 years and it surfaced when I had to deal with a similar situation with a friend. My heart goes out to all the children who go thru this, and I know from experience that your family will NOT support you, and will be in denial. It took my brother being arrested for a sex crime for my mother to realize that he was guilty. And she (and he) never even apologized to me. I so identify with these victims. It is even hard for me to watch this movie.

Many sexual abusers honesly believe that what they are doing is not abusive. They commit rape of children, and honestly believe they are demonstrating their love for the little ones.

The profile is of a cruel, vicious person who intends serious harm, and those certainly exist. The typical abuser is not any of this.
