and my buddy is rather relevant to the discussion. you say that what she has gone through is tragic, and it gives power to her lyrics. that's just plain stupid. my friend doesn't write lyrics, and if they did i'm sure they would suck. lol experience does not lend power. skill and talent lends power. getting raped doesn't mean you can properly convey what it's like to be raped. you need some skill to do that, and i don't think that this chick really has any.

and no, they didn't change her voice (with the exception of some slight mods in this song it sounds like), but they obviously played to it's strength. her solo work does nothing to really work with her voice. it's usually just shitty keyboard and thrown in strings with her yammering on about whatever. you'll notice that this song seems to "flow" with her voice better. the rough sounding beats and harmonies make her sound GOOD. with her songs it's all just voice thrown over mediocre music.
@malfeam its rarely a keyboard anymore, if anything its a harpsicord, and she certainly doesnt yammer on about whatever. the woman's been through hell- her songs are true stories. dw cant make such claims

In her live performances it's a keybord decorated to hide it, there are some pictures where it's very clear as to what it is and in early 2007 it went uncovered and wasn't a harpsicord. She may have one that she records with however.
@SableQ - I love EA, but she definitely tours with a keyboard rather than a harpsichord. Most of the harpsichord played "live" isn't live anyway, she might be sat at it at the start of the song, then she'll get up and it will still be playing - it's just a sequence that's been pre-recorded.
@invisiblestars ok 5 months late but she actually is playing Fave The Wall Live in that video.She may not be moving the bow according to speed in that specific part you're talking about but that's because her fingers are doing all the moving on the fingerboard.So she's alternating quickly between notes while using the full length of the bow.Watch krisvds Face The Wall video starting at 5:17 and you'll see what I mean.Ahem anyways I absolutely loved this song and EA's vocal contribution.:)

i don't have a list of what i've listened to, and my experiences with her is what i have listened to on youtube. just from those, i can honestly say i have no further interest in any music that she has to offer. she might have the odd instrumental song that is good, but i am not the kind of guy that would buy an album for one song. this song is good, though. but i blame dw for that. =)
and as for being a genius, i couldn't disagree more. i don't know how many instruments she plays, and honestly don't care, but just from the random youtube songs/vids i've seen of her she isn't anything to write home about. there are PLENTY of goth/industrial/darkwave chick bands out there that blow her away. i haven't read her book, but her lyrics are meh, just as good or bad as most others in the genre. i'm sorry, but your hero is subpar. i do hope she does well, though. she seems nice.
If you don't know much about her, or the instruments she plays, or you only know her from the couple youtube videos you've watched, how can you compare her to other artists? In her live performances it's a keybord decorated to hide it, there are some pictures where it's very clear as to what it is and in early 2007 it went uncovered and wasn't a harpsicord. She may have one that she records with however.

@SableQ - I love EA, but she definitely tours with a keyboard rather than a harpsichord. Most of the harpsichord played "live" isn't live anyway, she might be sat at it at the start of the song, then she'll get up and it will still be playing - it's just a sequence that's been pre-recorded.

@invisiblestars ok 5 months late but she actually is playing Fave The Wall Live in that video.She may not be moving the bow according to speed in that specific part you're talking about but that's because her fingers are doing all the moving on the fingerboard.So she's alternating quickly between notes while using the full length of the bow.Watch krisvds Face The Wall video starting at 5:17 and you'll see what I mean.Ahem anyways I absolutely loved this song and EA's vocal contribution.:)

i don't have a list of what i've listened to, and my experiences with her is what i have listened to on youtube. just from those, i can honestly say i have no further interest in any music that she has to offer. she might have the odd instrumental song that is good, but i am not the kind of guy that would buy an album for one song. this song is good, though. but i blame dw for that. =)
and it's not too eccentric, it just isn't good.

and as for being a genius, i couldn't disagree more. i don't know how many instruments she plays, and honestly don't care, but just from the random youtube songs/vids i've seen of her she isn't anything to write home about. there are PLENTY of goth/industrial/darkwave chick bands out there that blow her away. i haven't read her book, but her lyrics are meh, just as good or bad as most others in the genre. i'm sorry, but your hero is subpar. i do hope she does well, though. she seems nice.

If you don't know much about her, or the instruments she plays, or you only know her from the couple youtube videos you've watched, how can you compare her to other artists? An intelligent opinion, one that you are not giving, is of someone who would do their homework to look up these things before they blabber about how awful someone's music, voice, whatever is.

@xSnipSnipx i've done youtube homework, watched what she has to offer, and consider her stuff shit. now it's been recommended a bit further down that i check out her instrumental work, which i probly will eventually. there are bands whose singing content i don't enjoy but really enjoy their instrumental work (last few nin albums for instance. lol)

Seriously? Who goes to a video that is clearly for fans of Emilie Autumn (since she's the only one in the damn picture), just to point out her 'shortcomings'? Just because you don't like her and YOU feel that she's only good because of the 'DW guys' doesn't mean you have to make a point of it on a video comment page, just to piss others off, which, from the looks of the negatives, you are clearly doing.

@xSnipSnipx i don't give a shit about emilie autumn. this is a die warzau song featuring her, and she does a good job, but i feel it's because the dw guys are able to make her voice work. i've listened to a good number of her solo songs, and they're shit. i do not like how she does vocals on her own, and the mediocre midi player she seems to prefer using makes it even worse. she does do some okay string work, but nothing special. and i ignore negatives. i could care less about epopularity

Emilie autumn is a singer, a writer, a poet, plays about a dozen musical instruments with masterful skill, has a perfect vocal range, has experimented with nearly every genre of music, from classical to jazz, has an enormous fan base WITHOUT becoming a complete puppet or showpony celebrity, and these are FACTS. You don't like her music, think it's SHIT, that is your opinion. And for every you, there are a thousand people who think otherwise. Good day to you sir. :)

Oh, and I might like to add that she accomplished all of this ON HER OWN, under NO management but her own, and while struggling with severe Manic Depression. And she's not some fumbling druggie or alcoholic, she is off the charts of intelligent. Now I leave it to you to find me anyone who's done more for their music.
