@roremster you are probably watching videos, like this one, of highly modified engines that need to be warm to run well and idle above 2000 rpm. I own a 79 rx7 with a completely stock engine and it busts off after a half a second of cranking every time.

@roremster The earlier Rx8s came with weaker starters and the ignition coils go out pretty quickly. My car started lazily at first until I upgraded the ignition system.

I also know that my friends and family with 7,8 second (1/4 mile rotaries) don't stand around jacking it to torque numbers.they launch between 10k and 11k rpm and remain close to that power band.

That said, show me a dyno graph of a rotary engine putting around the same horsepower and torque down. All the graphs I've seen make around 170ft/lbs tops. The engines turn 8,000+RPMs because of the design of the engine. Very little low end torque over a long power band makes for more horsepower overall.
