  • Pink Mastotool. Fucking love this song.

  • got pink floyd?

  • @goodeldash Pink Floyd and The Beatles too. Incredible song.

  • @sup3rdavid really diggin' this band, great music

  • What the fuck is this shit? Where did mastodon go?

  • @itsmedude1020 you say "wtf is this shit?" well, you should see what happens when they play this song live :) it's simply amazing to say the least.

  • @Nunez87 I've seen these guys like 3 times. I know what they're like live. Do you mean that the fans go crazy when they hear this song? That isn't hard to believe, they've gotten a whole new fanbase from this album.

  • ahh raping the play again button :) <3

  • THE CREATURE LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVES!

  • This is such a trippy song. Holy fuck.

  • they were obviously on drugs

  • The opener sounds alot like some of the in-between stuff from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

  • @TheSchmitz15 reminds me of it too, the combination of raw synthesizer with dubbed psychotic vocal samples is SO pink floyd

  • If you don't dig Creature Lives, you should go die in a fire.

  • Opener reminded me more of Steve Miller than Pink Floyd.

  • I love pretty much everything Mastodon has done, but this song is so cheesy and horrible that I can't bear it. I don't get why everyone seems to like it.

  • @DrPepperPower87

Not everyone. Alot of people share your views on this song. I like it and I'm a huge Mastodon fan like yourself. But then again I'm just easier to please, I must admit. But it's such a feel good-ish ballad that I really enjoy singing at the top of my lungs with the friends I made at the front of the stage along with Mastodon and the other guys that join 'em at the concerts.

Like a peace on earth and good will to men type vibe...thru Metal. :)

  • @AlcoholRabbit I guess I'm just more into their heavier side. I love songs like "Blood and Thunder" or "Workhorse" so their latest album doesn't do a whole lot for me. But I still like it (mainly the first half though). My mistake is probably to always hope for another "Leviathan"-like album.

  • I think the amount of acid you need to take to make something like this in equivalent to cocaine would put Charlie Sheen to shame.

  • @Peace4allbut1 Good one.

  • Listen to this, then listen to Either Iron Tusk, or March Of the fire ants....

  • I hunt The Great Dismal Swamp

  • it sucks....

  • @Dreamer18qual you are just deaf, listen to it again, you missed something. Those are good sounds

  • @RandomIndigo Dude, i appreciate mastodon's music and the whole band as well, especially Brent's instrumental talent at music, but this song it makes no sense to me..SO, I still assert my opinion!

  • @Dreamer18qual word up. you are definitely entitled to that.

  • 34 dislikes? Wtf is wrong with people. Bad taste i guess.

  • @bassmanjoe They just missed the whole point.. Its good. Really good

  • saw this 2 hours ago too and was fucking EPIC!!!!!!!!!!

  • Easily in the top five best songs by Mastodon, but its not as good as listening to Cee Lo Green on Cassette. Right now some Hollywood producer person heard these and was like WE ARE REMAKING SWAMPTHING BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • saw this about 2 hours ago, the guys from red fang and the dillinger escape plan came out to sing it with them, suffice to say IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!!

  • Its like modern pink floyd so freakin good and awesome

  • @TheLevesque1 No, they're not 'modern Pink Floyd'. Pink Floyd are Pink Floyd and Mastodon are Mastodon. No need to compare those bands whether they're as good as they are.

  • @OleTheFirst I think he mere meant they are like Pink Floyd due to originality and creativeness, not by the sound.

  • @Disturbedone1954 yeah but the intro is almost exact same as one from dark side of the moon. Not dissing the song or band in any way though. This is my favourite song and band of the moment

  • i saw these guys yesterday, it was so freakin' awsome :D

  • Like I first described this song when it came out...A psychedelic orgasm fueled by psilocybin, robots, creatures inside of a crystalline rainbow.

Fan since 04'...Mastodon are the chosen ones!

  • im falling more and more in love with this CD

  • @killjoysxe Both Troy and Brann sing it live, but on the record the only one singing the verses is Brann.

  • ...... Don't they both sing it though?

  • Oh, and props to Dailor singing this entire song whilst drumming.

  • @GlassOtter troy sings it live

  • I loved albums Blood Mountain AND Crack the Skye........ I don't really care what others say..... This album has some of the most epic music I couldn't even dream of making.....This. SERIOUSLY. Is going to be an album that's impossible to top. Period.

  • Very Pink Floyd.....In a good way

  • I always thought it would be cool if the Florida Gator Football team ran out onto the field with this song.

  • @BioHazardTBZ Except even the Gators know better than to douchify such a fucking masterpiece of a song with their douchey existance.

  • too epic

  • I thought of a funny ass idea for this video. Have Brent dress up as the creature, emerging from a swamp, just to rip out that EPIC guitar solo.

  • The first minute of this song trips me the fuck out hahaha.

  • goddamn i love that solo

  • I live in the swamp

  • @Alos21 Wow, you have both top comments! Capitalist >=[

    xD

  • rune logo \m/

  • Excellent song. Reminds me of King Crimson, obvious nod to Pink Floyd and it's remains Mastodon - marvelous.

  • Its called prog metal for a reason. because change is a good thing, especially in the direction with this album.

  • Mastodon should do more songs like this one

  • steve miller band theshold/jet airliner

  • Started listening to these songs just a couple days ago. The day after I bought their album. THAT is what I look for in a band!

  • If I still smoked weed I swear this song would have put me out of this world.

  • @ariseDRAGO So what if it's softer than previous efforts?

  • @shockofhyperbole i agree. Who does care? i like it anyways

  • @ariseDRAGO This song was done by Brann. If you noticed he sang the whole thing.. So its going to be different. Listen to another song cause a lot of them are fantastic.

  • @ariseDRAGO poor you, really sucks that they did what they wanted with THEIR band...grow the fuck up

  • @ariseDRAGO you should stick to gay ass slipknot cos I bet this is just too much for your litlle brain

  • Intro is influenced by THX.

  • such a clusterfuck of emotions

  • This is one of the most musical songs Mastodon has written yet. The melody of this sounds like Jane's Addiction in their prime. The bass line sounds like something Eric Avery might have written, and the solo is just pure Dave Navarro. Bravo, guys. My favorite song on the album.

  • by far the most expressive guitarists in metal/rock

  • The bands we love wouldnt be the bands we love without their influences, yup its pink floyd like, yup bowie too, but in the end its a mastodon song, and a fucking killer song at that! and who the fuck wouldnt wanna sound like bowie or floyd? music royalty people, and genius's. still rather be Mastodon though!

  • This song is so deep. To look at the lyrics, I believe, it represents some who has been repressed, abused, and banished from society because they are then "The Norm". Then someone who stands up for this person but is equally thrown down by the same people. This song represents every civil rights movement, every equality stand, every protest. Its amazing.

  • pink floyd and aldo nova and david bowie

  • my favorite song on the whole album

  • Not much to the lyrics but you gotta love the music its freaking epic!!

  • @MrLeonheart666 The band said in an interview with Metal Hammer that the simplistic lyrics are intentional. They're supposed to be sort of silly and tongue in cheek,

  • I just like that they write whatever the hell they want...

  • Floyd, Billy Squier's "In the Dark", RUSH, even heard a Beatle's riff in a song...they're letting themselves stretch this time around

  • The Drummer wrote this one :))

  • Pink floyd rip off?

  • @dg12ification Not at all! If that were true then anything which involves synth or psychedelic influence would be a Pink Floyd rip off!

  • just when i thought this year will be full of shitty new metal music.. i discover this album.. there is still hope!

  • @hipgnosys And then Lulu happened, and though I'm still a Metallica fan, it ruined the entire year with that shit.

  • sounds like a christmas song.... :p

  • not there best album but one of there ambient melodic ones go Mastodon

  • What's with those fucking 30 dislikes!??!

  • @Brollyhero93TOP10 Probably just butthurt metalheads complaining about the synths.

  • @Brollyhero93TOP10 shity song, by far the worst mastodon song written.

  • @srkeenan78

    You fail at trolling...

  • @Brollyhero93TOP10 love mastodon but not a blind fanboy. bad is bad.

  • this song makes me all tingly and warm when i'm high.

  • The opening of this song reminds me of the THX logo for some reason...

  • @tommadeska13 hahaha me too mate. but much trippier

  • Is it wrong to think that Brann has probably the better voice in mastodon?

  • @warmonger1987 It's not wrong because it's your opinion. While he's the better clean singer, he couldn't sing like Troy or Brent. They're all good at what they do.

  • @warmonger1987

    I agree man!

  • @rainerss

So the answer is: NO, it isn't wrong. ;)

  • yhe cratures look is so epic!

  • this song made me high

  • so nobody else is catching like a kind of "Dark Side" vibe in this song? I mean, sounds a lot like they had some Pink Floyd influence

  • @IAmTheFreightTrain i think thats what they were going for. a really trippy feeling. like you just dropped a bunch of acid

  • @IAmTheFreightTrain first time i heard the intro i thought "either pink floyd, or jet airliner by steve miller band" lol

  • @wattsta07 yeah it reminded me of the intro song, Speak To Me, off of The Dark Side Of The Moon

  • @IAmTheFreightTrain Oh I noticed that right away, and the Sparrow has that one riff that sounds like it could fit right in on "The Wall"

  • @IAmTheFreightTrain alot? it almost sounds like a cover of Pink Floyd

  • Comment removed

  • @IAmTheFreightTrain Exactly what I thought when of when I first heard it.

  • Comment removed

  • @IAmTheFreightTrain The Steve Miller Band as well with the whole intro keyboard thing. Still a fucking good song!!!

  • @IAmTheFreightTrain totally; as soon as i heard it I thought of Pink Floyd.

  • This is what plays when you rescue a spider or a moth.

  • Twinke twinkle little star

  • Mastodon played this live last night at the Orlando House of Blues and the whole crowd got really into it.Best encore finale EVER!

  • first time i heard the intro i thought it was floyd

  • @shooterman1120 That's cause you're a faggot

  • this is mad good live :D

  • There's alot more lsd involved in this song.

  • fuckin' intro "the great gig in the sky"... trauma again lol

  • reminds me of christmas

  • One word: Wow and thats an understatement

  • make it longer...that's what she said..but seriously. make it longer

  • This song is ok to me. The lyrics make it though. Brent collects swamp monster things so it fits with that, and it seems like the lyrics are just kind of being yourself and do what feels right, and don't be ashamed of you are thing going on which is a good message and it goes very well with the album thing of doing whatever the fuck they want compared to a themed album.

  • Saw Mastodon yesterday with Red Fang and The Dillinger Escape Plan. Mastodon finished with this song. At the end the other bands came out and sang along. So epic.

  • @Jak3Mac im insaneley jelous. they came to san fransisco and i was pissed because i love mastodon and dillinger escape plan. i find out yesterday that mike patton came up during dillingers set and sang good dogs do bad things with them, i hate that i missed that

  • Brann's vocals in this are so awesome, really great singing.

  • even if it doesn't sound like mastodon i still love this song

  • THX

  • The start reminds me of the opening to the 1st Pendulum album. Then it starts sounding like "All tomorow's parties" by Velvet Underground then it goes all Arcade Fire. Way to keep things interesting Mastodon.

  • this song live was so fucking fun! ohgod!

  • They ended on this in Kansas City. It was fucking awesome! EVERYONE was singing along.

  • @PBJtimeGUY Ur a fag...and a troll....u cant even spell....go fuck yourself...

  • @TPCproductionz NO IM ALMNAOT SUICK A CHEEK

  • @PBJtimeGUY This guy thinks he's cool...

    ... but he's not

  • @EjectorPants101 HEN IM BETR tha IMD

  • I am simply in awe with this album. I find my self listening every song and adding it to my favorites...

  • PINK MASTOFLOYD!

  • i fuckin love the old heavy mastodon but this new stuff is amazing!!!! true gods of music they need to be wayyyy more famous

  • This sounds like church music, fuck this, this is not mastodon

  • @ffxmaster4224 Open your ears bro. Stop having a one sided mind and like it for what it is. Good music.

  • @sirrobinthebrave Hey, man. It's not good to everyone. I can respect Mastodon wanting to keep their sound fresh and not be a stagnant, boring and repetitive band, but this just isn't good to me. Especially the lack of heaviness. That's a trait a metal shouldn't lose.

  • @ffxmaster4224 right, cause this "isn't heavy metal"? or "isn't mastodon"? or cause "it sounds like a church choir"?. hey maybe on the next album, they'll drop doing whatever they want to do and cater soley to you..

  • @youknowyourrite1 Okay. You people aren't listening. I respect them for wanting to change their sound evolve as musicians, but the vocals and riffs are lame in my opinion. Not every change is necessary. Nobody asked them to cater to me, think before you blindly use a moronic hyperbole.

  • @ffxmaster4224 Listen to Fluff by Black Sabbath. It isn't metal & it certainly isn't heavy. This track does have a heavy feel to it. Most good bands will throw something different into the mix.

  • Outstanding. Brilliant. Modern metal meets prog rock from the 70's. And it works.

    Floyd meets Oldfield.

    Perfect.

  • Shit I was fuckin disappointed they didn't play this at the Chicago show last Friday.

  • @dixonslag i saw them yesterday and they ended on it...so fucking awesome

  • Steve Miller band???

  • lol for some reason this song reminds me of Where The Wild Things Are..A LOT. haha It could easily be anthem for that book and movie.

  • @ChainMeFree09 its because it sounds alot like The Arcade Fire's Wake Up lol now I'm gonna go listen to that song!!!

  • is this bruan singing?

  • @videomasta521743 yeah it is, except his name is Brann hehe

  • The solo reminds me of the Mighty Boosh song looking for the new sound, when the rabbit comes in on harmony leads.

  • Absolutely Floyd-based intro, great! Can't wait to see them live.

  • Hell ya, this whole album is amazing.

  • This is definitely my song for Christmas 2011. Magical.

  • bit pink floydy at the beginning =P

  • This reminds me of Christmas

  • @smurfed98

    I know what you mean....

    Strangely enough...

  • I thought this song was a cover.

Cat purring at the end....anyone? anyone?

  • I thought this song was a cover.

  • the only disappointing thing about this song is........... they had to make an ending.

  • @Sonnydrummer I agree, it ends too soon.

  • this song kinda reminds me of shrek.

  • Sometimes, there are no meanings to a song, you just write shit down that appeals to you. This album definitely shows mastodon's more human side, the humour, the sadness, the different spectrums.... somedays spectrelight and all the heavy lifting, and black tongeu are faves...then there is curl of the burl, blasteroid, and stargasm, heavy but melodic... then the sparrow, the hunter and creature lives just trip me out. This album has everything. BEST. ROCK. ALBUM. EVER. (til their next one)

  • ... Swamp Monster Jesus????

  • That THX sound always freaked me the fuck out when i was a kid. Just sends chills down my spine.. still does.

  • The harmonies in this song remind me a lot of Animal Collective

  • @otherjay11 sometimes i feel like mastodon is the animal collective of the metal genre

  • What creature? Cuz if they're referring to the Deep Sea Creature, I think it's kinda dead lol... And just so I don't get poo flung in my direction, let me also say that I bought the deluxe edition of this album and I loove it... except for this song... there's just no metal element at all... reminds me as much of twinkle twinkle little star as it does steve miller and pink floyd
