Most of the bands like ATR, BFMV, KSE, AILD, COB, Trivium etc., don't mash together fast one finger barre chords in dropped tunings. They mix it up.

At least Metallica was fuckin' manly about it and played actual barre chords fast and made it sound monstrous. Try a real left hand chord workout if ur gonna sit here and brag about ur skills. Try playing something tasteful, musical, with emotion. (ex. Killswitch Engage, BFMV etc.) You technical master you.

@XASCENDX Yep you're right.  Actually it's not that exclusive to Dime, because it's nothing more than the pentatonic scale, exploiting the blues note, or flatted fifth. In this case in E Minor it would be Bb. It's a normal pentatonic shape in E Minor, in 12th position. You just roll back and forth, the true shred and metal sound comes from the chromaticism. The pattern itself is G, A, B, Bb, repeated back and forth. It's that rolling chromaticism between B and Bb flat make it sound cool.

Shankel is insane. But his style remindes me a bit of Tiago Della Vega. and well....these guys are fucking tequnical, but i have the feeling that their tequnice is more important than their music itself.

I personally love Jason Becker, Shawn Lane and aslo Tony McAlpine chem them out ;)

He hits as much notes as he can in his solos, as fast as possible. He started that high mid crunch shreds way back since metallica. In this vid, he provides the seniority. Mark and Cory B both love Megadeth, and site them as influences. People can judge MegaDave all they want. The facts are in the music, and the men who made it.

It's great to be good at guitar, but I'm not too into all this sweep picking and lead techniques. I mean, do you think Varg Vikernes sat and practiced sweep picking and tapping before writing Burzum songs? No. But he produced better music than all these 'shred' people.
