Agree or disagree with Rachel's politics, she is a good and brave person. Those who hate her because she is a lesbian deserve the scorn of all humanity. Those who hate her because of her politics? Realize the same goodness and bravery she showed by coming out is the reason for her political leanings. She may be wrong, but she is still worth hearing.

I have come to learn that coming out is a process that repeats itself over and over. Every time i meet new people or start a new job, there is always the moment of coming out again. I wonder 50 years back peoples reaction to equal rights for women would be same as it is for gays. INCREDIBLE. She's so right. It's much better to be out in terms of quality of life and for your community. I have such a hard time with deciding who to tell and who not to. I feel like as a femme it's even harder because nothing about you says gay. Sometimes its nicer to have the clothes you're wearing and the length of your hair say it for you, so you don't have to say it out loud.

As a gay guy who came out only a few months ago, and who only came to terms with being gay shortly before that, this is one of the closest things I've heard to my coming out experience. At one point, I just realized that I had been gay for as long as I could remember, and from that point on, my life made much more sense, I've felt wonderful since coming out, and I regularly wear shirts identifying myself as gay around my college campus, as I also feel that being very "out" helps closeted LGBTs.

17! I had my first crush in the 1st grade. My 2nd crush was in the 5th grade. I was transgendered from 1st grade until middle school when I started getting pressured. I was closeted for 7 years until I was 14 years old and tried to kill myself, I was forced to come out in order to get released from the hospital, and then I didn't come out on my own until I was 17 years old.
