... who tend to have an early turn with less steering angle, carrying lots of speed towards the apex and then using the brakes to shift the momentum forwards and "pivot" the car on its nose, so to speak. This gets the back end pretty loose, so they have to "react". They're perfectly happy dealing with a bit of oversteer - something Alonso didn't often have to contend with because of the understeer he induced. I don't care what insults you choose to throw at me next; this is accurate.
Erm, no. I'm just amazed and amused at your vitriolic response. Especially since you have no idea what you're talking about. Somewhere along the line you've misunderstood the concept of reactive driving. In this video (which is, after all, what my original comment was referring to), Alonso is exhibiting none of the traditional characteristics of a reactive style. The violent turn-in to "shock" the car into understeer is completely at odds with the style of a reactive driver like Kimi or Lewis...
What the hell is wrong with you? I didn't make any comment about any driver. I was just saying what their driving styles were like. You're pretty touchy. Saying Alonso isn't a reactive driver isn't putting him down. He makes a different style work for him. And actually he did struggle at first at McLaren, his aggressive turn in shagged the softer Bridgestone tyres until he managed to adapt a few races into the season. Kubica had the same problem, and Kimi to a lesser extent.
That's precisely what Alonso is not! A reactive driver is someone like Kimi, who drives with the car more "on edge", and is prepared to deal with the back end sliding around. He "reacts" to how the car behaves mid-corner. Alonso prefers to generate understeer on corner entry so the back end is more stable throughout the rest of the turn, and so the car behaves more predictably... he rarely has to "react" because he's done most of the work on corner entry and he knows what the car's going to do.
Great lap by Fernando. His style of throwing the wheel in and generating the understeer was so well honed, even then.
