  • I applaude you for doing this video Mikey. I have to say that I am here in the Philippines learning the culture and the language and I have to admit that I noticed that most of the stars on TV were light skinned. However when I look around, I see all different shades and colors. It might not be my place to say but I would hope that the media would be open to showing beauty in all colors. There are many beautiful people here of many different shades and colors.

  • it's not the color but the quality of skin that matters so if I have to stay out of the sun to avoid premature aging, then so be it. Dematologists worldwide agree that the main cause of premature aging is sun exposure...

  • i'm filipino/white and i think it's just the media putting pressure on all humans to change their appearance. i mean filipinos will ditch the beautiful golden brown skin for a ligther skin (there are some filipinos that are occasionally whiter than white people) and white people will do anything to ditch their beautiful natural white skin for our golden brown skin.. can't we just stay in our own skin?

  • MB: "God bless you ♥ Life is a gift and you a gift ♥" - You are Perfect!!

  • I was born here in the states and when I was 12 yrs old, mom took me to Manila for the first time and my relatives were so shocked to see me with a tan. Some of them even said it's so unlady like to be dark. LOL I thought it was the silliest remark that anyone could say to me and I just laughed it off. I'm naturally light skinned but I would kill to have brown skin.

  • My girlfriend is from Tondo she now lives in Canada with me I'm Canadian. But i tan nice Anyways i think she looks beautiful tanned. She's got the bumpin ass, D cups. smooth skin And I find with Filipino gals There hard workers Outside the home and inside This girl has her head on straight ...And she drinks beer! Can't get any better then that lol

  • This irrational obsession with Skin color is really FUCKED UP!!!

  • When I was a kid, I never used to care what my skin color was. It's just society that's putting pressure on us, forcing us the perception that whiter people are more beautiful. But honestly, I find those with aesthetically unprocessed figures and darker complexion skins to be more beautiful and attractive, such as Bianca Gonzales. Today, especially in showbiz, it's all about the nose & boob job, tummy tuck, liposuction, glutathione. And they're the ones called 'beautiful'. UGH. Society sucks.

  • LOL "Kiss mah wide nose, summa black, winter white ASS! love it!

  • God bless you too! :) I'm not even Filipino, I am Afro-Surinamese, but I somehow feel connected to you because my skin colour changes soo much! And then my white friends ask me 'HOOWW?? YOUR SKIN CAN CHANGE COLOUR? AND YOU DON'T GET SUNBURNED?!' It surprised me, that they didn't even know that my skin could change colour...

  • I WAN'T THAT COOL CAP!!

  • ur welcome.. =)

  • Bro, Sana someday makasama me sa video u... :)

  • tol, slamat nkkilala aq... dahil sau... :)

  • Wish more pinoys can be proud of their color. You're right, melanin's a gift. I used to use whitening products, then i realized im always hiding from the sun and my skin is dry, etc.

As one legend goes, God cooked Filipinos just right, hence the perfect golden brown color (and the melanin to protect us from the sun)

  • SALUDO!

  • I'm brown.. real brown almost categorized as maitim! hehe but hell no! i dont effin care! I love it :)

  • genius! u r..:) kee it up..

  • im dark... and i hate it.

  • well ive got something to say to you!kiss my wide nose summer black and winter white ass!:)))

  • Cheers!

  • The Philippines can send as many of the dark skins over here to the U.S. as they like, We'll take them all !!!

  • omg how r u so funny

  • im a half filipino/half british and im pale as snow, but when i tan i tan.

wished i had the tan filipinos have!

    booyou England

  • @VintageDoll100 yeah, i think that perhaps that's characteristic of olive skin people, you know, those with a yellow undertone? i think asians including east asians, mediterraneans, south/central americans, middle easterners are all olive skinned in varying shades that can get really really dark when they tan. check al pacino, he is very light naturally but aside from his bad spray tan today, when he was younger, he could actually tan dark.

  • proud to be PINOY!!!!

    Love it!!! <3

  • Hello I am from england and my fiancee is a filipina :) LOVE her skin tone it's smooth and like a chocolate brown it's just amazing.

i dont know why my "fellow" english often have such disgusting skin

  • I'm definitely a Filipino chameleon....I change shades according to the seasons, too :)

  • I think this video had a good point... but not a good job of explaining it

  • Mmmhmm, I prefer that yellowish color I usually am lol too white means terrible tans in the summer :\ my feet look like puppy paws

  • *mikey

  • Hi Miley! This is such a cool and awesome video. I love the part about the skin! I am a filipina also but know I am of mixed ethnicity. This might sound stupid but I thought that the main language in the Philippines was Tagalog. I was dead wrong! And also learned that there is no such thing as a Filipino race. I felt like an idiot because I thought that people from the philippines are. Indeed philipino.

  • Lol... but I'm currently having a color imbalance. Like, when you go out to the beach wearing sleeves, and when you come home you're arms are, like, part dark and part pale. Haha. And I'm TOTALLY blessed to be born a pure-blooded pinoy.. :D

  • we are chameleons (somewhat like that)!!!

  • my goodness :)))

  • Great post. I'm Filipino and I can also change colors lol. And if I wanted to, I can pass for white. I dyed my hair light brown and was speaking to this white guy on the plane, and he was from the Midwest and was saying how he's tired of Filipinos moving to his hometown and taking "our" jobs. He didn't know I was Filipino, he thought I was white lol. What I also notice is that what showbiz considers "dark" is kind of funny: Richard Gomez is described as having dark lol. As if...

  • LOL i thought i was the only one that realized my skin changes color throughout the seasons x)

haha but yea, im prideful of my skin<3

  • I LOVEE YOUR speaking WORDS OF WISDOMMM!!!!

  • I don't like the Filipino feature of their short height.

  • @Critique808 being short is cute ;)

  • hahah question i am dark but with a pointy nose. what do you say about that? hahha

  • PROUD TO BE PINOY!!! WE SUPER UBER LOVE YOU MIKEY AND YOUR VIDEOS..^-^

  • Comment removed

  • SUPER LIKE MIKEY ........ weeeeeeeeeee

  • YEAH!!! It's funny that I found this video coz my European friends are like, "Whoah! Everything here is for WHITENING?!" and they said, "Your skin is already beautiful. You don't have to be white! We like your skin!"

    PROUD TO BE FILIPINO! ;)

  • YESSS!! PROUD FILIPINO!!!! XD

  • Lol! i am half filipino but I have light skin, I didn't even get dark when i went to to philippines and i spent all day under the sun, lol. I have a filipino nose and my mom said the same thing about the nose, too, lol.

  • .. hahhaha.. i LooOovvVVeeEE mY sKin!!! =p

  • I like u very much Mikey! u r funny and one proud filipino. You make me happy just listening to your wonderful and humorous wisdom.

one thing though, I am not afraid to have a dark skin, I just don't like the heat of the sun here in pinas. prang langgam na nangangagat. >_<

  • nice.... ^_^

  • WOOW. Nice videoosss! :))

  • i love mikey's videos!!! nice!!!

  • 2:02 No...that's Frank McCormick XP

  • i love you for this video!!!!

  • dude, you're a guy.of course you kinda dont get it. lol.

  • If your mom is from tuguegarao or something like that.. so you can understand ibanag? Cause my dad's from somewhere near tuguegarao and they speak ibanag not ilocano.

  • its also funny by my family my dad is full swiss, my mom spanish-filipina.

my little sister look like a latina (spanish), my older sis like a swiss with darker skin and i look like a filipino with perfect skin big eyes and black hair. its this thing even how many filipino blood do you have you are proud to be a filipino. but one question why we are proud i know we have a great history,.... but switzerland have also this but im not proud to be spanish or swiss im only proud to be filipino

  • @ExTreMHeaDShot It's great that your proud to be filipino. It takes a lot of understanding to be proud of a culture. At the same time, I don't think a person can truly appreciate and be truly proud of a culture without the understanding of other cultures. Sometimes to love the who portrait, you have to appreciate the strokes. In my experience as a mixed person, being proud of my Jewish, Spanish, Chinese, and German sides has made me more proud of being Pinay. (P.S. I'm dark skinned/widenosed)

  • This is so true hahaha. I'm half Japanese so when I was young, I had pale white skin and my grandma used to scold me when I stayed outside too long to play (from morning until 1 or 2 pm).

  • omg this is so funyyy :))

  • Yes u are lucky to tan so easily!!!! I'm Filipino but I'm really light! I use lots of bronzers all year round! I remember being a bit darker in the Philippines when I was younger though! The color of your skin in the beach bit is gorgeous!!!!

  • Dude... people on TV in the Philippines are Gray colored. They skin is not natural looking sometimes.

  • ilovemyskin sooooo much!

  • am i the only one who's contented with my complexion??

  • @yanel1994 i love being a brown-skinned person!!! :D i don't know what's all the fuss about being fair.. :/

  • @shobentong i agree! :))

  • @yanel1994 no i like my color too. actually, i think filipino's paranoia of having lighter skin stems more from ideas of social status. prehispanic filipinos had it somewhat but only with their women as the men spent their days outdoors in the sun. but back then, women worked in doors, even the alipin mamamahay which kept their skin light. the alipin sa gigilid worked outdoors & were considered the lowest of the lows.

  • part 2... but dark skin meant that you spent your days working outdoors, especially for a woman, this signified her low social status in prehispanic phils. so i think that perhaps we took this & went extreme with it when the spaniards came. i actually don't think most filipinos are all that dark. it's just that we have olive skin that naturally gets darker the more sun exposure it gets. i'm the same color as bustos but i can get really dark if i spent 8hrs under the sun.

  • part 3... did you know that our ancestors only used the term kayumanggi for really really dark filipinos which the spaniards recorded as rarely applicable by filipino standards? so kayumanggi doesn't even connote brown skin but the meaning has changed now. now we use morena for dark skin but even that is changing & we are starting to use it for brown skin as well. sorry for the lecture, i just think we filipinos should know more about our prehispanic identity.

  • It's funny how Filipinos could be really dark, light or just tanned.

  • hey mikey, yeah i definitely agree with that..we Filipinos can easily adapt even in changing our skin tone.. thanks for that wonderful realization..that is awesome!! i can add up another reason to be PROUD PINOY!!! thanks and God bless!!

  • If your mother is from cagayan, so you understand Ilocano?

There are some funny words like

    English: Older sister

    Tagalog: Ate

Ilocano: Manang (in Tagalog, it means old or "ALE" as in ah-leh)

when I called "Manang" a girl which is a year older than me from Manila, she reacted so much because she thought that it means she's old already...

  • Comment removed

  • @SerramiahmE even manong diba?ahahah tindi nila kung maka react!!! ahahah >_<

  • @BioKlaine i know!!! LMAO

  • i laugh at my friends as i go in the sun for one day and get tan, while they burn and get as red as a fire truck XD i love being filipino!!! <3

  • i lovd the TYRA parody at the end.! haha

  • ABC 5 is still around? god damn!

  • @rezwanborja Seems like you haven't heard much about home for quite a while. It's not ABC5 anymore. it is now called TV5. surprisingly, they successfully made it to be strong #3 next to abscbn and gma

  • I lik eyour filipino accent better bro Nax!

  • you are so right Mikey. been there, done that.

when i was a little younger, i spent money buying whitening products (lotions, face cream, soap, etc. etc.). but now that i am older, and wiser (i hope), i've come to the realization that there's nothing to be ashamed of in being dark/tan-skinned.

and in the words of Francis M., "tayo'y mga pinoy. tayo'y hindi kano. wag kang mahihiya kung ang ilong mo ay pango."

  • @MsDadvocate Tito ko yan...

  • Thumbs up if you're really proud of having a BROWN SKIN!

gotta love your OWN! be happy and contented! I LOVE MY BROWN SKIN!

  • I'm Filipino, and i EMBRACE THE TAN! A lot of my Filipino friends don't though, they use like 10 different whitening products or hide in the shade. -___-

  • Life us unique

  • You are very inspiring. Thank you ever so much for teaching me to love my filipino features. It can be tough to do in a culture that bases judgement on features. PINOY PRIDE!

  • omg, my lola said the same thing about the nose too LOL.
