hay by the way i recugnize the formation at3:45 .. it is called the quadrupl flat carry out .. it is ware all member form up in a streight line and do a special paradiddle called thetriple flip .. you are only sopposed to do it with 4 people any more would create the risk of a total screw up ... but they pulled it off
i must say that even being a professional snare drummer ... im impressed .. it would take many months of constant care and practice to master paradiddles of that magnitude .... i sware they were a friggan blur .....
how is that not trying to offend? i'm gonna guess your a percussionist, i was just kidding, hence that being a joke, but still, TUBAS KICK ASS, instead of sounding like one!
haha, tubas do kick ass, and im a percussionist who plays piano and guitar, so i dont take offense at all, and the next instrument i would like to learn would be tuba, so ....yeah

i absolutely love Blast!! if anyone likes this, you should also check out Stomp! which is similar to Blast!, but deals with the percussion section instead of the whole band...
I was fortunate to see Jeff Prosperie do a concert percussion clinic, and get this he solo'd on tambourine and triangle, and it was hxc, mind blowing, I kid you not. It opened my eyes up to all of that junk. Keep in mind he was the 1992 DCI snare individual champion (it might've been DCM).
I absolutely hate blast snare solos. The solo's designed for crowd pleasure, essentially that's what they get paid the big bucks for. And by big bucks, I money no matter how much. Blast is the only show I know of that a percussionist can make a living playing a marching snare drum, that is as long as they can also play marimba, vibes, timpani, auxilery, drumset, cymbals, tambourine (you laugh). These guys are truly percussionists, their scope is a lot wider than DCI and WGI.
and you do realize that marimba and vibes take two totally different approaches when playing and require different techniques to effectively play? Oh, not to mention that foot pedal thing on the vibes, it has a purpose, and is one of the hardest instruments to be great at. And you realize that there is more than one type of cymbal crash, right? Each instrument, no matter how small, takes technique and practice to get proficient at;
There's no better fulfillment than drumming 99 percent of half the time, lol. but blast is strictly performance, so i think its best never to judge the instrumentals, the crowd couldnt care less how goos the tenors scrapes are or how many notes can be jammed into like 1 minute, its all for performance quality thats why I think blast is good. They jus express their selves in a more free form.
That was cool. I like Stomp too though. I don't think you can fairly compare the two though, they are very different. I'd like to see Blast live now. Cool vid.
I can tell we have some novice folks here.... "That" quad drummer you speak of is a Blue Devils legend in his own right, and has taught some of the best quad lines of the new millenium... Judge lest ye be judged.
guys...its a friggin show. 98% of the crown doesnt care if the drummers could fit in 50 notes in 10 seconds...it has to be flashy because thats how it attracts the general crowd. all it takes is a couple backsticks to wow the crowd...
I agre carpy their stick tricks are like fucking awesome but damn their playing sucks! Blue devil sanres kicks their ass!.As a tenor player i have to say that theirs arent that good im not excellent my self but i can play better scrapes and sweeps than that guy
I'm sorry, but speaking as a snare drummer I find both drummer's technique and playing to be really bad. The notes aren't complicated at all, just flashy. The performance with the Battle is cool, but the notes and stuff are basic. I'm not just impressed. Someone mentioned Stomp, I loved them live.
haha, the came clip is on you tube title "best snare drummers in the world". Some idiot was saying joey jordinson could outplay them on snare. Needless to say i got a little upset after reading that. I love blast, and Battery Battle is my favorite. Followed by the intermission stool jam :p
I love dci blast, we wach the dvd of it on the marching band trips, we even wached it twice on the way to championships(wich was in long beach and were in sanjose... and their was traffic.)

drumsets are easier and try playing with a whole line of other drummers together playing the same piece. not as easy as you think.

With that being said, if I were judging a solo contest and someone played a BLAST style solo, I would go to town.

Yeah dude, he's right. There is almot more than this and this can't satisfy a percusionist totaly too. But this stuff is still pretty cool.

you do realize that marimba and vibes are basically the same and cymbals and tambourine are auxiliary, right?
