Heya, hercrabbiness, I commented when you put this up, but I was wondering if anything has changed. I was just going through my subscription lists again and noticed this was your last video.
You could invite your RL friends for a streaming party. Little booze, multiplayer game... A party or trivia game has universal appeal, and plenty of people would get a kick out of you having legions of nerds at your disposal.
Streaming can use different software than straight recording, right?
I dunno, the potential success depends on what your RL friends are like, I guess.
Hope you get the computer thing figured out. I love to use CC Cleaner to keep things neat and use Panda or Spyware sweeper to get rid of pesty viruses and spyware.
My computer was down because of a power problem, so I had to install windows 7 :( I have alot of problems setting everything up to record. Hope it works out for you, and if you need any help send me a pm.
When recording using CamStudio or HyperCam on Windows 7, I suggest temporarily switching to the classic theme (disabling the DWM), which will greatly improve the recording framerate.
What happens when the video is too long? Does it just fail to save? Maybe try to decrease the framerate? I imagine uncompressed video at 128x1024 and the default framerate would exceed Camstudio's 2GB limit pretty quickly.
also with camstudio you have to keep the filename short or it will fail to output he file. like i would name the file something 7 characters or less, camstudio is just buggy like that.
Well, seeing as you have uTorrent right on your desktop, seriously consider picking up Camtasia Studio 7. It creates brilliant recordings in several formats, including HD. I can help you with figuring out how to render or make the proper video file for youtube upload if necessary, though my fifteen minute recordings were probably less than 200 MB even in HD.
@TheKnio She has that because I tried to hook her up with hypercam, But it's been mean and not letting her install. I'm planning to help her, I just haven't had much free time over the past couple of days. :S
I think its time for you to whip out the hand held camera and just focus it on the computer screen. As long as the audio is passable it should be sufficient.
I've found Windows 7 to be pretty easy to record in...it took a bit for me to get the sound the way I was comfortable with, but other than that, it's been pretty smooth. Congrats on the upgrade!
If you can afford it, shilling out the 37 dollars for Fraps is a simple and effective solution to recording issues. The file sizes it creates at 4 gigs, which is usually anywhere from 5-15 minutes of footage. I'm glad to see you are back, and look forward to any future LP's you have planned! :)
@UNlicensedPROBova FRAPS to record DOSBox ? Dude - DOSBox has its OWN recording feature; you just hit CTRL+ALT+F5 and you're all set. Makes recording DOS games a breeze...
@V35T1N Yeah, but it has a habit of creating multiple avi files at once which ends up being cumbersome. Plus you have to edit in any commentary. Still nice to have if you have a shitty computer.
@UNlicensedPROBova FRAPS creates a separate file for every 4GB and uses it's own codec which is inferior to ZMBV for the purpose of recording DOS games. Running Audacity in parallel is handy, since you have your commentary in a separate track, so it can later on be edited separately; for example - have it's volume adjusted, so that it won't end up drowned out by game's sound.
I'm sorry, FRAPS is a wonderful program but it this particular case it's a worse solution.
I am using Microsoft Security Essentials, has worked well for me, I too have heard really bad things about Norton. Awesome wallpaper by the way. Looking forward to your next LP but don't rush cause of us.
I am running Avast in Win7 no problem so that would be my antivirus recommendation. I've also heard very bad things about Norton, don't know if they're true because I haven't used it since 1995..
I hope you'll figure everything out soon enough...
BTW - clean up stuff like installers of already installed programs from your desktop; as we all know - it gets messy really fast if such barnacles are left unchecked. Also - Norton ? Really ?
@hercrabbiness Well, to put it mildly - Norton's software doesn't have too awesome of a reputation in tech circles... Besides - antivirus software and firewalls can sometimes interfere with other programs. That doesn't necessarily have to be the case here but you might want to make sure.
Sorry if I came off as a bit patronizing about the desktop ;). On a positive note - you're using a pretty slick browser and IM program... You might want to pin them to the taskbar (and unpin IE) ;P.
@V35T1N Haha, it's okay... I'm still figuring things out and arranging them to my liking. I plan on downloading Firefox eventually, but I just haven't gotten there yet.

wow, I was just seriously considering sending you a PM when I got home today to see if you were okay, and here's a video preempting that.
You can't fool us; I see that Minecraft icon on your desktop. Playing that what's been keeping you to busy to make new videos. Heh, just kidding.
Not the shortest video ever, either, as my first set of uploads were sometimes about this long :-P
HCBailly, another LPer, said something about him still using Windows XP due to not being able to record in Win 7.

you should stage your death scene and then run away to south africa where you can steal money and make more videos

@V35T1N *shrug* My dad built the computer and shipped it to me as a birthday present, so Norton would be his doing.
I do regularly clean my desktop, don't worry... I just happened to install a lot of programs today. :)
