  • Prisoner's dilemma. A given country would only benefit from acting on CO2 if all other countries do as well. What is the likelihood that if the USA cuts back on CO2 that, say, China, Russia, and India would as well? Or would they just burn the fuel that the USA otherwise would have?

  • But,.. how can we do this without John Denver?

The closest I can think of for a hero for this is Leon Panetta. A hero inmy book on US environmental policy. He went the distance for Monterey Bay.

  • But,.. how can we do this without John Denver?

  • @phantomscolts2 Still "jumping the shark" phantom? You make even global warming deniers look sane - and believe me that's almost impossible to do...

  • @phantomscolts2 Do you realise how crazy you look to an outside observer?

  • @phantomscolts2 The trouble is it's more sensible to credit the stated opinions of the best scientific organisations on Earth rather than wild eyed paranoid conspiracy theories of random internet loons on youtube.

I also know a lot about the science - it's beyond doubt that CO2 is a greenhouse gas, that it's increasing in the atmosphere, that we're mostly responsible, that the planet has warmed and continues to do so. Arch-sceptic scientist Lindzen agrees - only he says it won't be very much

  • @phantomscolts2 Paranoid thinking phantom. You people really sicken me that your brains are so screwed up that you believe your own horse shit. If anyone listens to the types like you and thereby threatens my family and my future you lot will have an awful lot to answer for.

  • @beatlemaniac1000

In what way is he spending taxpayer funding? Because he's sitting in his classroom from time to time?

  • Great video!!! Thanks honey:-)

  • in the abundance of water the fool remains thirsty. in the abundance of food, the fool starve. in the abundance of education, the fool remains stupid. some will see these videos and not take anything from them and of course be negative and showcase their ignorance. i'm incorporating this into my science class

  • That's great :) I hope your class benefit!!

  • Economy - A human made system to facilitate and measure the exchange of goods and services. It can be, and historically has been, created, modified, and re-created by humanity.

The Risk: Creation of a system to facilitate and measure the exchange of goods and services... again.

Earth - Not man made, and the only one we have access to.

    The Risk: Largely Unknown

So we can either risk boldly doing what we have already done before, or risk the unknown... that's the real choice.

  • omg, thank you wonderingmind42, I love all your videos and am trying to watch all of them

    they are GOOD

  • Over time the stock markets go up. 10% or so a year. Stick your money in an array of blue chips and your money will rise. You're welcome.

Why are you subjecting us to your ignorance?

Aggressive ignorance always beats Passive Assurance, so say the aggressive.

  • who says the manhattan project was a good use of resources?

  • it ended the japanses attacking america for the last 50 years so id say it was a pretty good idea. Ever see "Iron Man"? Quote"They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I respectably disagree. I PREFER a weapon you only have to fire once. Thats how dad did it, thats how america does it, and its worked out pretty well so far."

  • The 7 years war between France and Britan bankrrupted them both causing the french revolution and the american revolution because of excessive taxation.

would you like to guess why the economy is so messed up right now?

  • japan no longer posed a threat when the bombs were used. you don't control the military industrial complex, it does not serve your interests, doesn't recognize your right to life or that of mine. you are hostage of a lifeless and destructive violence monopoly on autopilot; it answers not to reason but to abstract concepts like maximization of its profit, strategic advantage or power. you are constantly blackmailed to feed this machine and side with evil so it does not eliminate you at once.

  • This is guy looks like Sue Barker

  • I don't see it.

  • neither did she.

  • there is no risk:

God said in Genisis there would not be another great flood

    Check out this graph:

    live search this:

Is Global Warming on the Wane?

    How Solar Goes Polar

    found on farmers almanac page.

mean temp. increase over last centry:

    about 1 deg F

  • how sad for you .... your certainty is your undoing as a reasonable person

  • my uncertainty is my undoing as a reasonable person.

so what U R saying is that I am nuts.

the people at at The OLD FARMER'S ALMANACK routinly predict the weather a year and a half in advance. So if they say the temperature is well within the margin of error I believe them.

If you are still adament let me give you this from the Bible: waste not want not

if you happen to be right against all odds the key to saving the environment also is also the key to prosparity

  • prove the bible is true and god does exist and I will stop watching these videos right this instant. Wait... you cant. so ill go back to my interesting science

  • God makes foolish the wisdom of the wise. I used to deliver newspapers. I have seen poor people live like kings because the are humble enough to take any hand me down that was offered and I have seen people who are will to do go bankrupt every 3-5 years because everything they have has to be disigner stuff and wants a new car every 4 years.

Wheather you believe in God or not the scripture is true. As for Medical Science: watch this video: Foodmatters

  • Why don't snakes talk to me?

  • amen to that XD

i just realized how ironic that statement was XD

  • you do realise his grid is the main argument that christians use to prove god right. you can not believe and go to hell, or believe and if your wrong, oh well, if not you go to heaven..whats the down side!

same argument....which means that these are the arguments of a religious fanatic....i believe just dont necesarily agree with the way of "converting other"

  • The downside is living like a bitch. I guess its just me but I dont like the thought of bowing down, asking someone for forgiveness, and worshiping. You see Hitler and God had a lot in common. You live the way he wants, and act the way he wants, and do what he wants, then hilter wouldn't torture and kill you. Sounds a lot like god to me

  • Hitler killed people out of arrogance, because they were Jewish or disabled.

God teaches us to submit to him and love one another. We are to be God centered so we can't become self centered like Hitler.

  • Right, peterbourgon, as if the worlds biggest crimes against humanity aren't centered on theological viewpoints. Just as Hitler's viewpoints were ideological, so are religious viewpoints. If your viewpoint is restricted to a specific monotheism and calling alternatives (including those as immoral as Hitler's) arrogant...now that's what arrogance is all about.

  • Hitler hated the jews because his father was a jew and he beat him and his german mother, who probably coddled him after the beatings. So he decided that jews were evil and germans were the superior race.

in the same way just because someone call themself a christian does not mean they do good. a lawless christian can be a mean nasty violent lying brute also.

  • Well, a Fox-view is no view, which is as good as any. Did you play with Adolf in the schoolyard? You know exactly how and why he thought what he did, which is more than most people can even say about themselves. Where the Chinese, Japanese, Jews and Americans beaten by daddy as well? 'Cause they all think themselves superior races. Where you beaten & cuddled by Christians?

But I agree on the lawless Christian part. Pity that your arguments in this reaction aren't based on preceding premisses.

  • God's laws are given to allow us to live in peace and have a good quality of life. For example: A child needs to have a Mother and a Father who are commited to each other, who will show the child by example how to live and be happy.

  • pfft i know jesus himself. he goes to school with me XD

  • how does 1+1=10

  • The binary addition of two binary values, 1 and 1, results in a value of 10.

  • Hey there everyone,

I have a blog which deals with a lot of the same stuff as How it All Ends - credibility, risk management, and how climate change is portrayed in the media. I'd love for you all to check it out.

Link on my profile page, or Google "climatesight". Thanks!

  • Dude, I should get some of our managers to turn up to your classes on risk management. LOL

You explained that well at a basic level. Y'know, I think you ought to consider a career in teaching... science ... yes, I think you'd be good at that. ;)

  • P H and D....lol

  • This is the reason why you are drawing so much emotionally driven counter-arguments. They are convinced they are right in believing what they believe and are not capable of acknowledging the possibility of them being wrong. I like how you tried to explain to everyone logically as to why this is a bad thing to do but it has nothing to do with logic. Their minds aren't trained in the form of science so being completely objective when looking at certain data is impossible.

  • That's really interesting.

  • Or rather the issue is Political and the politicians exploit the weakest points of science which are the individuals psychological state of mind. Adults do not like to be told what to believe beyond what they have already learned to believe through the course of growing up. So "Critical Thinking" is impossible for these individuals. People what something to be true so bad that they consciously and subconsciously ignore or refute without cause any information that can challenge those beliefs.

  • Most humans are told what to believe since birth. I get into many a debate with people who have just gone through life assuming certain things without checking it out for themselves. Some people just don't have the capacity to understand it even if they tried so they normally say "why bother"? That doesn't stop them from being ignorant enough to contend that issue whenever it is brought up as if they have a clue what the true dynamics at play actually are. It's psychology not scientific.

  • this guys a tosser but hes smart. alot of statements of the obvious said in fancy jargon though.

  • It's amazing how often I have to explain these concepts to people on how to make decisions, even in normal everyday life. It's so basic and easy to understand without any formal training in logic theory!

It's like everything either has to be 100% absolute or 100% unknowable.. gather some evidence and make a freakin' guess!

"Is this meat left out overnight safe to eat? It smells a bit - it might be safe, but I'm not going to take a chance." - boom, simple decision making process!

  • ima try that with the lottery

  • Here's how you do it: find the odds against winning, multiply that by two & only buy a $1 ticket if the prize is > than that number.

    e.g. odds: 26mil. to 1 against

    x2 = 52mil.

(x2 because you can assume to lose half the winnings in taxes)

so in this case, it's a better than even money bet to buy a ticket only if the prize is >$52mil.

Think of it this way: If you bought 26mil. tix you would have a 100% chance of winning, but if the prize (minus tax) is less than what you paid = no profit.

  • Eat Shit

  • Basic risk management??

God. Heaven. The Devil. Hell. Let me break that down into two rows, and two columns...

    "you have to choose."

"Can't have certainty on climate change, so were just going to have to tolerate some ambiguity."

    exactly...

  • right.

    can't be certain.

let's take the best course with knowing what we know.

  • Which god?

  • i honestly think you're a genius

  • Wow ok let me get this strait. according to his logic at 1:50 no one can every be wrong..... So i am the smartest person ever, and you just have the wrong asumptions

  • It's binary dude - he did say which video to go watch for the answer. You know how to count in base 10(dec). Now go learn how to count in base 10(bin) (aka base 2).

:) Your computer can do it why can't you?

  • He was using binary math. You wrongly assumed which system of numbers he was using.

  • No overspending is needed! Taking action against Global Climate Change (if it even exists) is simple and frugal. It would even help us stretch out our remaining oil, water, and other natural resources. One simple step: Wait until later in life to have children. Push the worldwide average age of first pregnancy from 17 to say... 29, 31, 32 or so). This isn't costly, it even results in economic benefit.

  • Yes, very good point.

  • If he's not trying to entertain why is he wearing the stupid hats?

  • Because he is trying to entertain. He's also trying to educate. This is primarily an education video, just an entertaining one.

  • Cool! I miss math class..

  • BINARY!

  • you suck.

  • "real things"?

    For instance...

    What?

  • white christmas is becoming a rare sensation here in sweden (a country in northern half of the globe). YOU are a cock gobbler

  • did you know that Greenlands icecaps are increasing? And we just had a White Christmas in Seattle -_-

  • You just read that somewhere and repeated it.... I assume. Prove it. Link to a scientific article.

  • Comment removed

  • Your claims are horribly uneducated and are not researched. I suggest you find as much data as you can and read until your eyes bleed.

  • If its all "Bullshit" and the government is just saying these things, then how come we have hard proof that there's such things happening to the world.A most common example is winter in some places.Like in Canada.Winter hasn't really hit home here yet.Its already December 5,and the ground is free of snow...are you implying that the government is simply using a "Giant Heating Lamp" and melting it all?

  • There is truth(god)in this mans words.

Zombies r everywhere, armies of mongrel hoard's decapitating innocence along 0ur borders.Find solace in the 1 truth(god), only then will the sheep be returned to the Shepard Jesus Christ the son of god,he who has shown us the path to eternal life in the eternal sea.The earth Over run with sinners, they disobey the righteousness of truth and feast on carnal desires. Is it so hard to believe u r being judged,as prophesied thousands of years ago by a carpenter.

  • hahhahah i have watched every video and i can't stop laughing. its the man who cried man bear pig. the one and only the guy in the flesh hahahahahhah. rofl rofl rofl

  • People need to start waking up. Global

Warming is real and happening. The Arctic

Glaciers are melting and we're on the verge

    of a major climate change.

  • 1+1=10 ????

    what????

  • It's binary.

  • Ohh...

    Thanks

  • slow down dude , don't do presentations like this , you have to be patient and bit more slow

  • wats that video with that old professor who talks to his class about global warming and over population? has 5 stars and well known

  • the most important video that you have ever seen

  • I'm sad to say It but I believe I see a flaw in your risk analysis.

The analogy of a lottery ticket just isn't going to cut it. When you deal with real world policy and implications of disasters you have to look at it from a mildly different perspective. You can't just keep multiplying probabilities until you've accounted for all possible variables and levels. You also shouldn't grant 100% impacts either.... cont'd

  • There's different "levels" of probability to be dealt with on the issue of global warming. Is the earth cooling, then if it is is it a result of human actions, then if it is a result of human actions, what is the probability that the impacts would be as large as some have projected.Under this logic, we could end up with a distorted probability.

What we have to do is accept that the connection between each "level" results in a different curve on the next level.

  • watch the video tittled "the most important video that you have ever seen" I believe that's the tittle but the matter of the fact is that presents exponential functions. I'm sure that will cut it.

  • alright, I must have missed it

  • thats the old one i think, watch "How it All Ends" i think thats the most recent one.

  • and i wouldn't like to be sitting at your table

  • you would be a pretty good poker player ^^

  • You look like an idiot wearing this hat and trying to save the world.

  • Dude...that's because I AM an idiot wearing hats and trying to save the world.

  • yes - I LOVE IT. Love the challange, the issues and the comments. Your students are lucky to have you.

  • perfect response =D

  • i cant believe i watched this whole video

  • I still can't believe it's not butter.

  • I hope global warming is Gaussian.

In other words, I hope we can base info on the "Land of Oz". Where if it rains on Saturday and Sunday, it has a consistent probability of no rain by a number that does not fluctuate.

With climate issues there may not always be this relationship if it is acid rain. Or maybe that might hold.

In general, I guess we can assume that the data will follow Gaussian Statistic.

(Boy would I look stupid, if that's thenext topic.)

  • What does the different hats represent?

  • One of the best things that you, as an individual can do, is to believe that we really have a problem and that we have the ways and means to fix that problem. When enough people clamor for change, the politicians will listen, and change will happen. Some people become activists, some don't. But we all have the opportunity to vote. And we can all help spread the word. This needs to be the number one priority! climate change is where we need to put the majority of our resources.

  • remember what happened when scientists said:

smoking is bad for your health! So, we advise u to stop smoking in order to minimize the chances of lung cancer.

    another group of scientists said:

aaah, come on... u cannot prove this. this is wrong, u made that up. CONSPIRACY!!!!

We are going to prove the opposite.

  • I personally don't give a fuck about dieing.

  • me neither man i love the tohought of dying nobody stops to think that the reason the world is so fucked is because of they're own thoughtlessness and why there is evil people is because they are careless wwith they're words, there is no evil people there is only currupt souls and those who are hurt and sensetive

  • I believe global warming is man made and going to be very serious. The more science papers I read, the worse the problem appears.

Where people of any side of the argument quote papers I suggest you read the original paper.

No one is paying me for comments.

  • yeah we need to send this video to everyone.

  • We're a sad generation. Too arrogant & too ignorant.

I would've loved my kids to have such a teacher.

Btw, to let you know, there's a point in wearing the hat.

Why would it hurt to admit that someone knows more than I do? Would it kill to accept it? I'm not surprised though. You call 70's the Iceage & that you've survived it through. Only one sentence shows the level of a man's knowledge. The more knowledge, the more capacity for taking in more data.

Anyhow! Great Job teacher! Keep it up.

  • Good work. Keep it up. Ancient sunlight aren't renewable, so the longer you use it, more expensive it gets, until it finally gone. I dont understand why people still want to hold on to it! Like it or not, global warming or not, you just have to convert to current sunlight. You just dont have no choice

  • Its a sad time when in order for a man to be taken seriously he has to wear stupid hats.

  • LOLL! (Laughed out loud--literally!) There is perhaps no truer statement. Sadly, I am willing to be that man.

  • Being a teacher really imprints the person.

No offense, I would send my kids to attend your classes.

My point is, that I never know when you say some importatnt stuff (stuff I might think about) and when you will only try to teach me something I already know (but I guess not everybody studies economics or financial maths)

  • what?

  • Lastly,

I have survived ACID RAIN, Killer Bees, and of course... The coming Ice Age (70's). I believe many of you are simply to young to have lived through those impending crisis. Did you know that MANY FAMED SCIENTISTS proposed that we dump factory ash over the poles to warm them in the 70's? This "would offset or at least delay the impending Ice Age". Thank GOD there was no usable internet back then. No You Tube for Blow Hards like this guy to have a soap box.

  • UGH! This guy is a pie in the sky dolt.

Thank Goodness he isn't in charge of ANYTHING important.

  • What do you think? (I'm not trying to argue here, but it has to be pointed out that you are providing any evidence that either contradicts him or proves you right. Please don't get all pissed off, but I'm just curious.)

  • His point is "we should do something, and do something now", damn the torpedoes! Doesn't matter the cost! How on Earth can someone be so blind? Obviously he drank the kool-aid and wants everyone else to guzzle along-side him. As for contradicting him... all one has to do is use a little critical thinking and search for the answers themselves. For example: research termites, their vast global population and the amount of Methane (a much more potent global warming gas) that they release annually.

  • Oh...thanks for clearing that up, and for not being rude. (By the way, this is not sarcasm, I'm serious)

  • your points are terrible, termites? honestly? are you kidding? compare it to humans and I doubt you'd be saying the same thing. Actually I do kind of doubt it because you said it in the first place, killer bees ? acid rain ? This is the whole planet we're talking about not your little world. Also "damn the torpedoes!" ? .. did you mean man the torpedoes?.

  • to get PHD it take 3 years and alot of ass kissing lol

  • My comment below was to NB134 based on his example, which I found a bad one, not making sense or thoroughly thought out.

  • My example makes perfect sense if you accept that we are being manipulated to predetermined conclusion by government backed scientists.

The argument is far from over despite what politicians tell you

research your subject, The amount of ACTUAL global warming that has taken place in the last 10 years, none, not one tenth of a degree warmer acording to The World Meteorological Organization. This means every video of crumbeling glaciers and polar bears on an ice cube in the last 10 years were LIES

  • Try relying on your own common sense. With an over populated world polluting out the yin/yang, don't you think that one day the accumulative toxins will have an effect on our planet? The earth naturally grows hotter and colder, but our pollution, cutting down of trees, etc. does add an effect. EX. An explosion of locust will destroy a crop completely. Our world is only so big. Our waste products are messing with everything including the weather, eco-systems, ozone, etc. We're the locust.

  • Don't misunderstand me; I'm not saying carry on as normal. We will eventually run out of oil, which is obvious.

I also think that time may be a lot closer than we are being told.

Think of the consequences if it happened tomorrow, civilisation as we know it would collapse, millions would starve, a terrifying prospect. So terrifying it would cause global panic.

Global warming is a cover story made up by governments who consider us to stupid and childlike to take the truth.

  • You also have to consider the places we currently get our oil from, unstable, backwards $h!tholes that hate us. It wouldn't take much to convince them to cut off the supply now and sell all their oil to china instead. We need an excuse to demonize oil, and that's where global warming comes in.

  • I agree with much of what you say, although, I'm still confused how you ended up at your conclusion because the the main people running our gov. def resists the fact that GW even exists. I don't think Al Gore is in cahoots with G. Bush. And I don't think anyone ever needed an excuse to demonize oil. People have wanted to move towards other means of renewable energy for a long time now. Pollution has to go somewhere. It doesn't just disappear into thin air. (Hey thanks for being civil).

  • lol

  • I don't think people hate "us" they dislike our gov. who dislikes their gov. all based on $ and power. (Bush's are friends with Arab oil familyl). I think generalizing is dangerous & short change millions of good people who do see thru the games our govs plays, using their citizens like pons. GW shouldn't bring fear into our future. We should be optimistic about change. People are resourceful. Going back a step, closer to nature would be good for our world whether GW drives us to do it or not

  • With all due respect, I'm from England. Type Londonistan into the search. Trust me, they hate us.

This is all about control, not global warming or pollution. Our governments hate relying on them for their existence, and to be honest I don't blame them.

Even Russia (where most of our gas comes from) is looking increasingly dodgy and power mad.

All I am asking is to be told the truth. Pushing such blatant nonsense as climate change just insults our intelligence.

  • US Gov denies GW exists, that should tell you right there that it's not something they made up. Also, I've watched all sorts of independent films made by people like you and me who've taken it on themselves to go out and see what's going on in "those" countries. Many of them are families just trying to live a normal life and are confused just like we are and think we hate them, especially because we're over there bombing them. Many like the US and Eng and understand (kind of) why we're there.

  • Look, many of those countries have strange beliefs that we don't understand. They mistreat their own woman, wives, mothers, sisters and daughters. They're angry men held tightly in the depths of their religion. If the war were to end, they'd continue to squabble with themselves. So, don't take them personally. Thanks to the Bush war, now the entire world is angry and pointing fingers at each other. Everyone needs to learn compassion, forgiveness and accept we are all different.

  • many of THOOOSE countries??? u need to travel u american pig

  • I do travel a lot, probably more than most. It's true, generalizing isn't fair. My apologies for hurting your feelings. But, I can see you have a lot of anger.......perhaps you're from one of Thoooose countries????

  • doint be so mean,.,, racism sucks

  • fuck man u dont have to be so racist jesus christ....

  • Thank you for taking the time to instruct us and share your talent. Your theory is in error for the following reason. You present the assumption that the destination is the goal, and fail to recognize the journey. Yes, as illustrated, your probability example is as 12 for 12 proposition, but look at the journey, which is LIFE itself. 2/3rd of the time, each time you buy a $1, your behind. and 1/3 the time you have broken even. If you were optimistic, you could simple reverse the journey.

  • Congratulations on the best example of buzzword spouting pseudo-intellectual crapspeak I have ever heard.

You have passed your wafflewords exam, welcome to politics.

Perhaps you could imagineer us a more holistic response.

  • Quite unnatural really, nice argument, but you sound like you watch too much television shows or something. Would have been more effective filmed outside, and not in a dingy poorly lit room.

  • u think deep but u make a good point same the polar bare

use a hybrid or those good lightbulbs

  • hats lol

  • I am not claiming to be a climate change scientist, but when their argument has such obvious holes its hard to ignore them.

heres an alternative point of view,

man made co2 comes from fosil fuels (specificaly oil), most of which happen to be underneath backward contries that hate us.

We need to develop tecnologies that dont rely on these fuels, but if we admit this dukadukastan could cut us off instantly and sell all their oil to china instead.

We need an excuse, like climate change.

  • I know you will say that this is not what this vid is about, its about making a decision, but dosent anyone else feel that we are being cleverly manipulated by government spin to arive at a predetermined conclusion to a non existant problem.

  • Hold on, all you've done is provided an alternative possible explanation for the climate change phenomena. That's not proof, nor an argument, nor a counter-argument.

If the problem doesn't exist, how could we arrive a conclusion about it?

  • Which part of "heres an alternative point of view" didnt you understand? I never claimed i had the all the answers

    The holes in the global warming theory I refer to include;

Manipulated data ignoring anything inconvenient (medieval warm period, little ice age etc)

The fact that the amount of warming that has taken place since 1998 is,,nil

I dont subscribe to the "better safe that sorry" line of thinking when I cant shift the feeling that we are being conned by people with an ulterior motive

  • It may have just been rhetoric, but it still makes no sense to refer to a conclusion about a non existent problem.

What I'm saying is there is no reason given for anyone to believe or take seriously your alternative point of view.

You are claiming that the argument has holes. You're speaking metaphorically, of course. An argument is a series of statements intended to establish a proposition. A hole is material. By saying it has holes are you invoking a sponge, implying that it holds water?

  • Let me try another explination.

A man turns up at your front door saying that unless you pay thousands of pounds to underpin the foundations your house it will fall down. you are 99% sure he is a conman, his evidence seems dodgy and makes little sense, but there is a slight posibility he may be telling the truth. if he is being honest then your house will colapse and you may be killed. Using the advice on this clip you will just cough up the money no questions asked. (better safe than sorry)

  • Also, what do you mean you cant prove that somthing isnt true, ofcourse you can. Cows dont have wings, and I can prove it.

Please get the idea out of your head that I am saying "I know the answer, My version is correct". All I am saying is if we can prove that global warming is a myth or a natural event then the whole point of this clip becomes invalid, and their is substantial evidence that this is the case. I am not going to try and list it in 500 words, Im sure you can find it yourself.

  • I didn't say that you can't prove that something isn't true. I said you can't arrive at a conclusion about a non existent problem. I also said that you have proven nothing. I understand your example. How can you discount the statements given by AAAS and NSA?

  • You can arrive at the conclusion that it is non existent; I am struggling to see your point here

You can quote sources and I can counter quote all day long, I have found this to be pointless, the core fact is that meteorological measurements started around 1875, which has now been confirmed through many sources (such as ice core data) to be the coldest period in the last 10,000 years (commonly known as the little ice age). Yes the climate has warmed very slightly, but from what starting point?

  • No, you're not getting it. You'd go out and get a second, third and fourth opinion and if all those opinions from other qualified people agree with the first man, then wouldn't you'd come to the conclusion yourself that you should get a new foundations for your house?

Regarding GW, there are enough scientists that agree that it is a likely issue to be concerned about based on their studies, which means that we should all be concerned and take positive action. That's the point of this video....

  • If we take action, but it turns out to be too late, haven't we spent a lot of money on resources developing the wrong technollogies? I propose yet another Risk management chart, where by both of the options are taking action, but in the one box, we reduce green house gasses and in the other, we develope systems to addapt to the changing climate. I would be intrested to know if there is actually anybody out there looking into this option.

  • Well anyways, I did my own graph and it looks like this.

On the X axis we have the options for if we are in time to save the climate (T), or if we arent (t), and on the Y axis we have the actions that we take, being that of CO2 reduction (R) and that of developing systems to cope (C)with the new climate. Looks like this. T | t

    R |

    ---------------

    C | |

    Fill in the blanks.

  • I did the chart. It's ugly, as you would have predicted, but the categorical facts you can't really stick into a box are that humans are adaptable; that we'd never agree on what to build to cope (make the same mistake & prioritize toward security, or suddenly shift 90º toward something like scientific efficiency); that it doesn't really take a lot of time to develop sciences but only to build systems that work on a mass scale. New set of problems, but you make a good point.
