Not to get too technical, but the Stones play this song in Open E tuning. It can be played in concert tuning, as in this video, but it just isn't the same. This video clearly illustrates why "Gimme Shelter" needs to be played in Open E tuning. This is not the worst version of this song that I have ever heard (Mick singing prevents that), but it is close. U2 should be able to stick to the authentic version of the song, which is not that hard to do.

The Edge is a decent guitar player, but not for this song. Keith Richards has a totally different style, guitar, tuning, and sounds that does the Edge is not duplicating. Not his style.
