well, legally in order to jump alone on your first jump you have to have the "static line" attached, which pulls the chute for you, allowing about 5 seconds of free fall.

thats not true. you can do AFF training as well. you have jump masters with you but you have your own rig and pull your own chute. thats what i did.

@bwatts That other guy is correct on the AFF stuff but A FEW of us learned how to do it the old fashioned way. :-) *I just yesterday passed my check dive, I did Instructor Assisted Deployment, a lot like static line.
