bad ass dude, awesome shots you got in the video. im going hiking in Healy, Alaska in september, just me and my dog. and this video just pushed me to do PCT as well. who needs a job anyways? fuck it, i quit already and got plenty of time : P
My son left Seattle this morning, flying to Campo. He will hit the trail tomorrow morning. We're very excited for him and this upcoming adventure. Everything I've read and viewed about the PCT has been fascinating. Can't wait to hear my son's tales of thie amazing experience. Thanks for posting this!
Most go Northbound. It is fun to go to the Kickoff Party near San Diego, and then hike from the Mexico with the other adventurers. Many also flip flop when it makes sense. Northbound is generally easier because of snow. Enjoy!
Question: I am planning to do this trip, but I still have not decided to head North or to go South. The reason being that I live only 20km from Manning Park (the northern point of trail) and seems kind of redundant to head all the way south to start. I have read that Southbound is more difficult. Any Suggestions anyone?
Fantastic video...thanks for taking the time to put it together. Song was great for it too. I'm heading out in a few months for my first crack at it. (And the "We'ree All Gonna Die" vid was classic...nice :) )
Thanks for posting this! I'm trying to figure out how I can do this trail. I feel like it requires you to just drop everything and go... which I guess is the allure of it.
@meta474 Hi. I'm looking at attempting a thru-walk of the PCT. Do you have any advice or websites that may help with what to expect? I have never been to the US. Thanks and kudos on the hike!
Question: Do people really only cook 100 feet downwind of their tent to avoid bears? And do they also change out of the clothes they cooked in before they go in their tent for the night? It seems like a real pain in the butt.

No. Bears are not really a serious problem on the PCT. The only bears you might encounter are black bears and they're generally afraid of people and non-confrontational. I've hiked the PCT twice, neither time did I have any bear issues whatsoever. I've met a few people who had bears sniffing around their camp but as long as you have a bear can in the sierra and keep an eye on your food for the rest, there's nothing to worry about. Black bears are wusses.
When did you start?

is the PC trail blazed well? there were a lot of clips were it looks like you were just wandering thru snow or in a river or something.

@meta474 Yes.Iv'e had bears around camp. But you forgot to mention the Cougars. They don't want your food. They want to freak you out.
