@WordsCondemnMinds ye - i'm from europe myself. i have been in Berlin four times the past two years, and i only saw the audi R8 twice. so that is an uncommon car - even here in europe
What's this braking in corners malarky? Seriously, I've taken steeper turns on snow and ice and it wasn't even an Aero. The 900 is a FF car that over steers, especially when you push it. The whole point is to take corners with power, pref on boost.
I miss my Saab's. I started with a grey '91 turbo. Then a few years later after I sold that one I found a '91 beryl green SPG (aero) with matching color body kit. During that time I added a '79 EMS two door coupe. I loved each of those cars and haven't loved a car as much since. I wish Saab still made cars like these.
@satorres82 Considering both are historically significant collectables. And were that already before Saab went bust, I hope you at least got a decent price.
@metonAlternate The SPG I bought with a salvage title and only 86k on the odo. Someone backed into it again while I owned it and it had a leaking head gasket. Thing is with 900's is little things start to fall apart on them. Like the sunroof failing and then leaking. So no, I didn't get a very good price even though it only had about 102k miles. The '79 I sold for exactly what I paid for it four years earlier. I think the 99 EMS was a much better car then the 900.
@satorres82 Mm'h. Althoúgh I have yet to do a complete tare down and rebuild of a H-block turbo, I suppose when you're used to maintaining engines yourself it doesn't sound like such a big deal. (I have changed gasket seal.) But indeed, the sun roof is a classic flaw in old Saabs. Fortunately in Finland there wasn't much market for them, it is usually the beginning of the end for the body. The EMS though, phew. It's the only N/A Saab I drool after. There are only a handful of 99s driving in .fi
@metonAlternate There was to many cosmetic and small mechanical flaws with my 900. I just couldn't justify the cost of making it perfect so I sold it to a mechanic who had the skill and resources to restore it to it's former beauty. Fortunately the one thing it didn't have was rust. Yes, the 99 was probably the best Saab ever built. Robust and simple much like it's Volvo 240 competitor.
Actually, for a 2.0l Turbo from 1984 with 175hp, average fuel consumption 10/100 is quite normal. Comparing it with other cars of that day with the same power output it was even low on fuel consumption. Because of the distances you travel on holiday average drops to 8/100. For a 2.0l of those days that was considered very good. For comparison, the 1.6 Ford Taunus from my father also did 10l/100.
@waxle Nice, but you're saying ''we managed'' and this is not an argument for me...
With the windows rolled up, no radio, no lights or AC and no stops you could probably get down to 6,5L/100Km. Probably. I still think that 12L/100Km is way too much for 2.0. But... I love that car, I used to have 16S and I am planning to buy one again now. Fuel consumption is definitely a drawback in this vehicle but it's worth it... Regards
@majowa83 still… 8/100 is way too much, even for a classic turbo. (unless you floor it everywhere) In the 5 years I own the car I've averaged 10/100. But indeed, if you're a low-mpg-fanatic, you should buy a Prius.
@waxle It's not about being fanatic but about reasonable fuel consumption. And Prius is one awful car and no healthy person would like it. There are other cheaper option as 3L or Blue Motion from VW...
Very good indeed. We left the International and did the Sustenpass Pass but the rain was so hard we did not see anything until we reached the top. Good reason to go back.

Those Saabs are built like a tank, back then.
brbn93 1 year ago
@brbn93 Yes, and unfortunately they consumed the gas as tanks as well... 12L/100Km (mix) is a bit too much for 2.0...
majowa83 1 year ago
@majowa83 actually, when running ARAL100 (100RON) in Germany we managed to get 8L/100Km… an that was on the Autobahn. ;)
