Attention Drummers/musicians!!! Get the book "realistic rock" by Carmine Appice!! If you like 60's-70's rock drumming it's the Bible. It turned my hopeless brother into a real rock guy. He would work on it every day and half way through the book and after learning the first Zeppelin record beat for beat he would go back to the jams and sound exactly like Simon Kirk of Free and Bad Company...with bonham fills to boot. It could save rock drumming im serious. Amazon.com
Mitch Mitchell was my greatest and most important influenc with Tony Williams right behind him..Oh and Billy Cobham All fusion masters. Those guys smoke all twerps today
Being from a generation of drummers (I'm only 15) that usually use match grip, it just blows my mind to see guys like this rocking out traditional grip
@thedizzies1 He uses matched grip for almost the entire video. Did you not watch the whole thing? Mitch was great at what he did, but check out Virgil Donati if you want to see someone who really tears it up in trad.
I never knew that Mitch Mitchell played double bass--every record I jammed to on the drums, I could all do with a single bass. Perhaps it was used strictly for solo's or live? I'll never know :/
I understand that there are alot of technical stuff that goes on on stage, but i thought it was rude of Hendrix to be talking behind Mitch while he was jamming his solo...just sayin'.

@capetown99 yes i know and as i said i wasn't paying him out. It's just that's the first guy that ever ressembles the hippie that pops into my head whenever i hear the word hippie :P
you fucking kidding me? They had double bass in the 60s? When I took up drums thought double bass was only used in metal. @KurdtKobain09 Dave Grohl uses double bass quite a bit, maybe not on Nirvana albums but definitely on their live gigs, listen to them at Reading, it's a dub-bass dream (actually a shame he didn't play like that on the CDs) and he sure rocked the hell outta the dub-bass on the entire Tenacious D album, by far his best work IMO, not better songs just better drumming although his creativity on the Vultures CD makes me Jizzz.....
it's funny how at 1:14 jimi was like "hey dude you think we should stop him?" while the bassist would probably be like "nah let's let him have his fun"
I was able to see him for a brief few seconds when he came onstage in Portland during the Experience tour last year, which happened to be his last. R.I.P., greatest drummer ever
because some people are more worried about what is popular versus what sound good we all know green day sounds like shit and Green day probably doesn't even enjoy what they do they just like the money hence Green day (pay day)
@jezeus420 Im i huge fan of Jimi Hendrix lol. But i also think you have wrong, ofc they just like a bunch of kids playing around and want money but they are good at playing the rock they are playing, what are they playing, is it punk rock?, ye it is right?, good at punk rock but nothing when it comes to play like this. Its not fair to even say Green day in this conversation.
@imshloodoo1 kind of forgot what my point was if i even had one but green day isn't rock, what i was trying to say is that they're not so much music oriented more so just in it for the money, that's why their music is of lower caliber.
i cant stand all my friends talking about how today's band are awesome and whatever. It fuking pisses me off when they say bands like led zeppelin or deep purple suck and sound old. pathetic
@max7338 led zeppelin is the best band period and deep purple have had so many awesome songs. BUT... There are some great modern rock bands you should listen to like mastodon.

@VercettiVice hey i get that man, all i'm sayin is like put in one of the cds or records and the pocket behind the song is a lil too busy sometimes its more bouncy as opposed to just bein straight drum beat, as far as a solo like what ur talkin about from somethin fuckin up, i get that thats not what i'm talkin about ur totally right in this instance
