Hey Dan; have you considered making "learning tracks" for some of your songs? You would make a lot of people very happy... and I would even be willing to pay for them. It would make my life complete.
@AnonymousViewer1 i actually do learning tracks! its a part time job for a few a cappella choruses (but im always looking for more customers). every multitrack ive done online essentially is a learning track since i have all the original files still. send me an email if you're looking for more info though!
@daniscool99 Thanks for the very timely response, Dan! I sent you an email; let me know if it's more convenient for you if we talk through YouTube messages. Thanks again for everything! Keep singing, I love all of your material =)
@daniscool99 LOL, really?! ... dannyjfong at gmail dot com? ... well clearly my email account must be up to some sort of sorcery, so I'll re-send the email, and copy+paste the message into a YouTube message just-incasies.
you are talented.. but this song needs to be sang with more heart.. this is a "prayer".. the arrangement I think made it fast and "pop-sy"... not the right treatment for the song...
In my opinion, Bring Him Home is the most beautiful song ever written. This is the only video of yours I have seen. I just stumbled across it looking for the actual song, and you just earned yourself another subscriber. Fantastic!
Hi Danny, great stuff you produce here! And very special that your voice can do all parts, from bass to tenor. Really... wow! :-) And your still so young.
If I would be your coach I would say: your voice is perfect, arrangements are perfect, but the interpretation seems to be "gone" a little: the meaning of the words, meaning of the song. May be it's because I played in Les Misérables myself (in 2008, The Netherlands), but if you can add interpretation: you can become a worldstar (in my eyes).
@dirkpostma77 But this is the exact reason that people like me who don't like musicals keep coming back to Danny - he has real refinement, which is worth far more than too much overt emotion.
I predict this will be nine million views before I get much older. I will send it to the 60 people in the UK on my musical offering list next weekend. And please don't change your style - it is more objective than some performances but therein lies its uniqueness. :)
I have played Valjean in Les Mis 4 times, and even I have never heard such a unique and beautiful verison of this song. Your tonal quality is amazing and the harmonies are spot on. Keep up the good work! I would love to hear you sing a solo version of this song as well!
You Did a great job man. I do agree with some people, in saying that you need to be a little bit more expressive.
Just a musicality thing too... Very Choppy. This song is a prayer... a letter to God. So the song needs to sung in Cursive. Seemed very Chord by Chord ya know?
@daniscool99 I think you were reasonably expressive in the video. I think maybe a little more dynamic contrast would have done the trick. You've got your mezzo-piano to fortissimo range covered, but I'm kind of feeling some moments that could have gotten softer.
Throw in a little pianissimo in the more lyrically delicate moments and I think the expressiveness Stephan is talking about would come naturally.
Of course, when it comes to recording, extensive dynamic contrast can be tricky...
When I was a young singer we didn't have the technology at our finger tips that we have today. I thoroughly enjoy your talent, your music, your singing, your harmonies, and your work.
Sounded good bro really good! There were a few spots where it looked like you barely opened your mouth but maybe that was just me. But great work. I was actually thinking of recording this for my channel but not the BBS version just the solo version with the orchestral accompaniment.
Very nice, technically at least. I would have liked to hear more emotion though. Obviously you haven't been through as much as Valjean had, but getting into character is part of singing this type of music., which is what makes it so hard. Other than that though it sounds great!
@COMALiteJ Yes, the difference is larger than most people think.
As with all Barbershop or other a capella clips on YouTube, where available, BE SURE to listen to this at AT LEAST 480p quality, even if your connection is slow and it means waiting awhile for it to buffer!
YouTube uses a lower-quality, higher-compression audio codec for 360p and 240p streams. This codec mutes the higher harmonics without which the chords won’t properly lock and ring. The difference is considerable!
720p and 1080p seem to use the same audio codec as 480p.
@COMALiteJ Thanks for that detailed explanation on how the lower quality codec affects the audio. You're right, 480 sounds way better. I'm now even more impressed with Dan's recording. I can't play 720 because the video frame rate will drop on my computer, but 480p looks and sounds great for me.
Dan, I've been following your videos for about a month and this is definitely one of my favorites. You've made such a nice arrangement of the parts and sound good on all of them. I would say your voice is very clear on all of them but sounds most natural and pleasing on the bass, baritone, and tenor parts. I know, some of us guys like to sing high also, but we just never sound as nice as a high woman's voice. I guess they were given exclusive excellence in that area. Anyway, this is superb!
By the way, can I just ask out of interest, did you record the music before-hand and then lip-sync in front of the greenscreen, because the sound quality was very good and I couldn't see a microphone anywhere...
Very good, you singing was very impressive as always, you harmonize were particularly good in this video, and you have a brilliant greenscreen. Good job, one of your best so far.
I really enjoy your performance in this one Dan, I've watched it several times already with friends. I particularly like it when you sing in your tenor range, it's clear and smooth The video looks great too.
wow excellent video! I've been putting off my video of this song cause I don't have as good of a tenor voice for the lead part as you do. I think that this is one of my favorite videos of yours ;)
@goodchappy Thanks, and you are 100% correct. It was a little fast, and maybe is a tad disgraceful compared to the original.. but this is not the original, and with this style, and a mostly straight tone, it is very difficult to hold phrases longer than I did. I think if I did it slower it wouldn't have turned out as tight as I was able to make it.
@goodchappy I don't agree with you. Pitch is just one aspect of singing, among tone quality, vowel quality, vibrato, etc. One shouldn't stop singing just because of pitch: some people sing off pitch &sound great, others are in tune and can be annoying because of the tension in their voice, for ex.
No program will make you a great singer without practice, but pitch correction programs are great tools to help one polish a decently sung track. I don't understand what's so wrong about using them.
@trudbol There are shows such as X factor and I was staggered when they revealed that people in auditions were having their peformances auto tuned. I am not a great fan of strong vibrato but if the singer can control when they use it, I appreciate it.
Like anything, people have different tastes and maybe auto tune has a place but if a performer naturally has perfect pitch, you can't get better than that.
Once again, absolutely beautiful. You have definitely got the green screen thing down pat. Please do me this favor. Promise to rerecord this and post it again in 30 to 35 years.
BEAUTIFUL :) definitely one of your best recordings, i liked how you took some time to extend the tag, it really showed off your technical AND musical skills :) keep posting :)
This is the first video of yours I've seen since you got back from the dentist (little behind I know lol) just wanted to say that I'm glad that didn't slow you down in the slightest! Beautifully done
Clap, clap, clap! That was masterfully and beautfiully performed. I really enjoyed this piece, thank you for another fine multitrack.
PS: The original French title is "Comme un homme" (= "like a man"), by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil (from the 1991 musical "Les Misérables").
This could have been amazing.. as it is, it is ok. You seem really attached to the barber shop thing which is just, for me, sort of ald and also jarring for this song. i really wanted to hear you do a close 4 part harmony all the way through that was contemporary, more like "All the things you are" which is by far the best thing you have done.
@daniscool99 Almost like being in love is absolutely sensational Danny. The jazz vibe is on the money and the harmonies are really soulful. Those guys singing with you are more in your league than your other colaborators - who are decent singers. You are a special talent and you need to be stretched musically and when you step out on a limb the results are wonderful. That would be one hell of a group.. am gona check out the others you suggest. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
@eaglesonofwill This arrangement is well known and has been performed by two gold medal winning barbershop quartets. If barbershop isn't for you, fair enough, but it is ridiculous to criticise the style when it is widely held to be amongst the best arrangements of the genre. As a barbershop singer I'm pleased I can listen to a quality singer recording a variety of musical styles including barbershop. Personally, I prefer the pace Platinum takes, but then to comment on that would be relevant.
Really well sung in a technical aspect, but somehow I think it lacks the emotion one is used to get from this particular song. Nevertheless, nice singing.
I'm surprised no one had tried to multitrack this gem yet =) and you did it brilliantly
Some bits were a bit fast for my own chord-worshippy preferences =P but the singing as always was great.
And you say that it didn't fit your range very well, but I thought it suited your voice pretty nicely =) The choruses were very light, but still with a nice amount of power; exactly how it should be =P
Fantastic execution!! I love the video lay-out. You've made it impossible to post a video in four obvious different parts without looking ridiculous :). Sometime a little fast for my taste, but this sounds like it has been mastered in a studio man... you're amazing!
loo.

Fantastic. You have done this song justice. Your range is spectacular.

@trudbol I love how that's the exact same title as the French version of 'I'll Make a Man Out of You" :D

@eaglesonofwill See my last like 5 posts... Like Someone in Love, My Romance, Almost Like Being in Love..?

OUT STANDING Danny! I love how it goes "in and out" of "traditional" barbershop style and harmonization.
I must say the last harmony was a "ringer".
Keep it up.

I never thought of this song as a good one for a barbershop quartet to do. It sounds really good, but part of me still doesn't like the idea...
But again, it's really good

Wow ^.^
I'm surprised no one had tried to multitrack this gem yet =) and you did it brilliantly
Some bits were a bit fast for my own chord-worshippy preferences =P but the singing as always was great.
And you say that it didn't fit your range very well, but I thought it suited your voice pretty nicely =) The choruses were very light, but still with a nice amount of power; exactly how it should be =P

I think it's a little too fast.
But still awesome!
I'm playing in les mis at the moment, so I really appreciate this song!

Fantastic execution!! I love the video lay-out. You've made it impossible to post a video in four obvious different parts without looking ridiculous :). Sometime a little fast for my taste, but this sounds like it has been mastered in a studio man... you're amazing!
