whoa for a 16 year old girl to be in the finale and singing like that was just brilliant! i thought she would have won back then but fantasia just proves to be too invincible.
I watched the entire season and yes Diana sounds okay. She has a nice voice. Her last note was awesome! However, as I thought then, and still today, felt she was way out of her league singing against Fantasia. Heck, by the time it was down to the final four it was clear Fantasia was gonna win. Her performances were stellar!! She had completed the race while the other contestants were competing for runner up.
So wow...here we are still playing and talking about the 2 performances. What I find that is most interesting is the comments that Fantasia's blessing and skills were inferior to Diana's. What planet were/are you people on??? Fantasia was absolutely FANTASTIC throughout her ENTIRE time. With each performance, they BOTH got better. But, clearly Diana's coach did not arrange her performances correctly, which is what added to the lack of experience, thereby her losing. But, she is making music now.
If American Idol would have remained a talent competition like it should have, Diana would have beat Fantasia hands down. Fantasia only won and got the votes because people felt sorry for her. Diana had the better and stronger voice by far.
Always wanted to say this and now I am gonna, That little girl (because that what she was when this aired) sang the living shit out of this song. Physically drained herself, emotionally put every drop of her heart in that performance! Hells YEAH!!! I am still waiting for her to come back and show us what she is about today. Fantasia, step aside, check yourself into Betty Ford for a minute. Diana we are waiting!
In my opinion Diana was naturally much more talented than Fantasia. I mean wtf... was I the only one who saw that her voice was pure and clear as a diamond's, while Fantasia sounded like she was singing through a mouthful of oatmeal? Fantasia was a little less pitchier, sure, but it's only because she was older and had far more time to practice. Diana should've won.
People are still talking about how "great" Fantasia's version was. But I LOVED this version. I never liked Fantasia's voice (the screeches and constant yeah yeah yeahs) and I barely liked Diana (except for Don't Cry Out Loud - awesome) but this performance really made me root for Diana. Feeling? Um, this had plenty of feeling! Diana went above and beyond for this and Fantasia sounded like she always did. IMO, Diana is still the winner for sheer vocal ability. Water under the bridge, though.

Haven't heard this in years but have to say, she actually does a good job here. She sang this with a lot of passion and a lot of emotion, so it sounded really good. And, she looked cute, too! Have to take my hat off to her, this was really good:)

I found this and I remembered how much I loved Diana's performance on this song. I honestly truly believe that Diana should've won instead of Fantasia, but I acknowledge Fantasia because she has a great voice as well. For this particular song, I like Diana's version better. I think it's because this song feels alot more powerful with someone who can sing the really high notes. I felt the emotion and power from Diana's version more-so than Fantasia's version.
She ALREADY KNEW that she had lost in this performance. With THAT circumstance, and with THIS performance, i think it's an amazing and very emotional performance. Hands down for her.

NO she did not deserve to win. Can she sing, YES but her voice is not conditioned enough nor can she control her notes. She is all over the place in this song
@saushababetta you know it's not even about conditione or control...because even with it a true artist with a big soul, an amazing feeling, fantastic emotions and deep deep voice can bring people heaven when he sings. like Barbra Streisand said "it's the imperfection that makes things interesting." But Diana doesn't have anything of those things. She's only not so bad, nothing more.
They both did great. No matter what Diana is a great singer. I love Fantasia's version of this one, but Diana didn't make it there just because of her pretty face. She has some pipes on her!
Go back and listen to Fantasia's version again ... while Diana is a good singer, she lack that passion and emotion to move the audience. She doesn't seem to feel the music, it's like she is reading it instead being the song and interpret the lyric. She comes off too scripted and desperate.

Fantasia sucks. Plain and simple. I have never heard such a horrible singer then when I hear ANYTHING that comes out of Fantasias mouth. Like listening to gravel being flushed down a toilet. Dianna was the best contestant out there, and she really deserved to win that. Crappy that she did not. But, at least we have her albums comming out to look forward to.

MAN can this girl sing!! Woo! She's just incredible and so many awesome things are in store for her this year! With her post-Idol album "Blue Skies" I didn't really showcase who she was as an artist, because she is more country. Her Country EP "Unplugged In Nashville" (last year) really highlighted who she was as an artist and I'm so glad she is working on her next album. From 3:39-4:06 she has me in shock. For her age at the time, hitting all those notes, INCREDIBLE!

Well, you can't really tell anyone they are wrong when it comes to their opinion. But I have not heard of Diana or seen video of hers since American Idol. While I have many of Fantasia's videos on my favorite lists, and I hear about her in the news (positive reasons) than Diana.
To me Diana is a generic good singer, while Fantasia has that "it" factor I can't put my finger on.

I read in an interview that Simon actually believed that Diana was going to win, but due to her "technical difficulty" (cough sabotage cough) her final performance which should've been flawless was horrible and ruined any chances of her winning.
DAMMNN!!! Diana brought the house DOWN at 3:40-4:06.....GIRL CAN SANNGG!! Forget Fantasia, you don't hear about her anymore! She hasn't come out with any new music in 3 years! After this powerful performance, Diana PROVED that she would had long-jevity, and she's shown it. She released a Country EP "Unplugged In Nashville" back in February of this year, and she still doing music gigs and working on getting signed to a Country label. Pshh!! This individual performance is why Diana DeGarmo was so awesome in Season 3. By this point, she knew that she had already lost, and yet was able to go out there and give one of her best performances in the entire season, fantastic.
For someone that was only 16, knowing that she had already lost, brilliant composure, and despite what Simon always said, age was never an issue for her.

Diana DeGarmo is probably one of the most incredible vocalists to sky rocket from American Idol (just see 3:21-4:06). After this live performance, she PROVED it!! She has been and WILL be the only 16-year-old to have ever made it to an American Idol Finale, (in the entire history of the show, so far). The only other two to have made it an AI Finale, we're both 17 and they we're Jordin Sparks and David Archuleta. But, David Archuleta seems to be the most popular out of the three, for now.
but on another note... aren't they making it quite obbious here that she wouldn't win? Why would they make her sing this song that you'd sing when you win and not Fantasia? NO she did not deserve to win. Can she sing, YES but her voice is not conditioned enough nor can she control her notes. She is all over the place in this song

@saushababetta you know it's not even about conditione or control...because even with it a true artist with a big soul, an amazing feeling, fantastic emotions and deep deep voice can bring people heaven when he sings. like Barbra Streisand said "it's the imperfection that makes things interesting." But Diana doesn't have anything of those things. She's only not so bad, nothing more.

Go back and listen to Fantasia's version again ... while Diana is a good singer, she lack that passion and emotion to move the audience. She doesn't seem to feel the music, it's like she is reading it instead being the song and interpret the lyric. She comes off too scripted and desperate.
I feel goose-bumps when I listen to Fantasia's version.
Verdict: American have spoken, the better of the two won! Nice try!

Fantasia sucks. Plain and simple. I have never heard such a horrible singer then when I hear ANYTHING that comes out of Fantasias mouth. Like listening to gravel being flushed down a toilet. Dianna was the best contestant out there, and she really deserved to win that. Crappy that she did not. But, at least we have her albums comming out to look forward to.

@midniterider78 I have to disagree Fantasia has a different voice...Diana isn't a bad singer she has a good voice but Fantasia owned the song...some parts seemed as if Diana was screaming instead of singing but also Jennifer and Latoya I found to be better singers than Diana but she was in my top four.

Fantasia freaking BLEW THE SONG OUT OF THE WATER ! And even Simon was impressed, and he isn't swayed by anyone else's opinion but his own. "Fantasia you just gave your acceptance speech, congratulations" was his comment after she performed.

Gosh she actually horrible and shouldn' t have made it to the finals... but i guess she was america' s little sweetheart at the time, but she had no business being in the finals (atleast not based on this performance)

MAN can this girl sing!! Woo! She's just incredible and so many awesome things are in store for her this year! With her post-Idol album "Blue Skies" I didn't really showcase who she was as an artist, because she is more country. Her Country EP "Unplugged In Nashville" (last year) really highlighted who she was as an artist and I'm so glad she is working on her next album. From 3:39-4:06 she has me in shock. For her age at the time, hitting all those notes, INCREDIBLE!

Sad, Diana never won, but you know, that's okay. I don't think, at the time, America wanted a 16-year-old girl to be the next American Idol. Fantasia had more performing and entertainment experience on Diana. Diana was a performer, not an entertainer. Having said that, LOOK CLOSELY at 3:21-4:06 at how PASSIONATE and convicted she sings! Man, at 16 she set a standard of unbelievable talent that no other 16 y/o has been able to break or get to. Diana is in her OWN LEAGUE!!!

Well, you can't really tell anyone they are wrong when it comes to their opinion. But I have not heard of Diana or seen video of hers since American Idol. While I have many of Fantasia's videos on my favorite lists, and I hear about her in the news (positive reasons) than Diana.
To me Diana is a generic good singer, while Fantasia has that "it" factor I can't put my finger on.

Well because i saw fantasias video thats what im saying and voice my opinion... She is screams through all the whole song with her yea yea. Thats not hiting a note thats screaming and you know that listen at the end of dianas version of this song 3:59-4:05 it was clear and with a vivrato.. @casanoba09 She may not sell that many cds but she has had a best-selling book, the 2nd highest-rated movie on Lifetime, has rocked Broadway on so many occasions they keep asking her back. She also has a hit realty show on VH1, tours, is working on her next album and rumored to be doing a more modern version of The Color Purple for tv. Oh, it's also a well-known fact that artists don't make their money from selling cds. They make it from going on tour, which is why Madonna has so much.

Diana was the ONLY 16-year-old to make it to an American Idol finale. As the show has progressed, no other 16-year-old that has come on Idol has been able to top her level of talent. She's still INCREDIBLE in my book. BUY HER NEW COUNTRY EP "UNPLUGGED IN NASHVILLE" NOW AVAILABLE ON iTUNES!! Broadway is more suited for her voice, and she's doing great in that arena.

Honestly anyone who says Diana should have won should be so grateful she even made it to the FINALS. Jennifer Hudson was obviously 100 times better and should have been in the finals with Fantasia. I mean did you see Dreamgirls? Hellooo! America made a big mistake not voting for JHud BUT they made the right choice in the end.

I read in an interview that Simon actually believed that Diana was going to win, but due to her "technical difficulty" (cough sabotage cough) her final performance which should've been flawless was horrible and ruined any chances of her winning.

DAMMNN!!! Diana brought the house DOWN at 3:40-4:06.....GIRL CAN SANNGG!! Forget Fantasia, you don't hear about her anymore! She hasn't come out with any new music in 3 years! After this powerful performance, Diana PROVED that she would had long-jevity, and she's shown it. She released a Country EP "Unplugged In Nashville" back in February of this year, and she still doing music gigs and working on getting signed to a Country label. Pshh!! America got the winner sooo wrong that year. GO DIANA!!

This individual performance is why Diana DeGarmo was so awesome in Season 3. By this point, she knew that she had already lost, and yet was able to go out there and give one of her best performances in the entire season, fantastic.
For someone that was only 16, knowing that she had already lost, brilliant composure, and despite what Simon always said, age was never an issue for her.

diana is a good singer, very talented, but i wonder what if jennifer hudson, who in my mind is a better singer, had competed against fantasia. fantasia had more raw emotion than diana did, fantasia could more relate to the song. diana has a lot of talent and she wil only get better

Diana DeGarmo is probably one of the most incredible vocalists to sky rocket from American Idol (just see 3:21-4:06). After this live performance, she PROVED it!! She has been and WILL be the only 16-year-old to have ever made it to an American Idol Finale, (in the entire history of the show, so far). The only other two to have made it an AI Finale, we're both 17 and they we're Jordin Sparks and David Archuleta. But, David Archuleta seems to be the most popular out of the three, for now.

From 3:20-4:06..PHENOMINAL!! Diana BLEW Fantasia's version out of the water! Though she struggled with in-ear monitor problems, she came back and gave it her ALL!! She had've known, at this point, that she wasn't going to win! To me, this encore performance top EVERY other Finale performance in the history of 'Idol'. I bet you anything, that watching this before trying out, Carrie Underwood had major respect for this girl and would've never known she was going to win a year later.

For yall who are hating on my girl Fantasia heres the difference between these girls. My girl fantasia had the emotion and the dream. Her life was so hard and she had worked so hard to get where she was. I also believe Fantasia does have a better voice just more soulfull and makes you feel good. Fantasia Barrino and Diana Degarmo are both GOOD singers.. No doubt why these two came up until the finals.. But for me, Fantasia's version was higher while Diana's version was good too.. I love both of them..

Diana had Kelly in tears! I don't believe Fantasia brought Kelly to tears. It still upsets me that Diana didn't win. She has a powerful voice and was much better than Fantasia in my opinion.

If Diana sang it this way performance night, i think she would have one. Fantasia can really light up the stage with her emotional presence, however Diana can -sing- way better then Fantasia. ...... ahem, even Latoya London should of truly deserved to win this season if it was a -singing- contest rather then a popularity contest. ugh..
