  • Awsome gas flow but have you checked the amps going in to the inverter while powering your cell to see how many amps you are using there? Good luck!!

  • The voltage is coming from the panel in the shop to a variable transformer rated at 20 amps then rectified. I have checked at the panel and the amps are a little different but not much.

  • Are you using a valve to keep the hydrogen closed off till you start the timer? What are you using to get the high DC voltage and how would you adapt that to a 12 volt systme in a car? What is you plate configuration?

  • Yes, secondamend I am using a tee with a ball valve on it to let the gas out thru the valve till the test then I close it to force it down the tube to the test vessel.

    I am using 2 236BU powerstats wired parallel thin the AC output is rectified to DC then to my drycell for my test stand.

    In a car you might could use a 1500W car inverter and then rectify the output to DC voltage. This would give you 120VDC from your standard voltage in a vehicle.

  • My plate config is 120VDC with +59N- this gives me around 2V per plate and it doesn't get hot after extended periods of running at these voltages. Stays under 110 deg F.

  • yes on the valve. I am using a large powerstat variable transformer then rectify the AC voltage to DC. The cell can be either setup with connections to run on 12V systems or hooked up thru a inverter and then rectified back to DC for the higher voltage with only two connections.

    I have 61 6" plates 1/8" spacing with gaskets between each plate.

  • Nice work. Can you use 120 volts AC to accomplish the same thing? I'm asking because AC inverters are easy to get and I wondered if it could work for hho production.

  • No I don't think that AC will work straight off a inverter but you could take the AC and run it thru a Bridge rectifier to get 120VDC.

  • Have not checked the actual temp. but ran it for over an hour and it just got a little over room temp. Will try to check it and see what the temp. is after an hour of running. But have noticed that if you keep it at 120VDC it does not get hot. Now if you run the volts to 130-140 it pumps a lot of gas, around 1 liter every 6-7 sec but it does get a little warm.

  • You do it with DC from your car, i'll do it with inverted dc rectified ac in mine. I like to let the volts do a little work also. Oh by the way I can also hook this cell either way you know but I like it +58n-.

  • inverted dc, is ac rite, but rectified ac is dc. Why use that setup, does you use it at a better frequency? Thanks for the work, could you fill me in, im really interested. also i have a 12volt inverter, what size rectifier do you use, or should it be made of large diodes

  • yes, and yes.I just like the higher voltages. In some of my test it takes very little KOH or K2CO3 to get the same output as the lower voltages and higher amps. The inverter I plan to install in my van is around 1500W, this should cover my supply to. So for around 700W this setup will produce 4LPM at these voltages. If I was to set it up for 12V it would take nearly 60 Amps on this large of a cell to equal a 700W output. The one I use is a 40A 600V full bridge rectifier.

  • Use this equation to determine the inverter size you should get. P=IV (power(watts) = current x volts). So for 3 amps 120vac you need a 360w inverter at least. 5 amps equals 600 watt inverter minimum. For the rectifier, a GBPC case full wave bridge rectifier should work. For instance a 25amp 400 volt one would work fine.

  • I am trying to keep it under 10A at 120VDC by adjusting my electrolyte mix. Done some run test and it has been hoklding at 7 Amps for over an hour and producing 1 liter every 14 sec. Thanks for the equation. I think that the 1500W inverter should do fine
