You enlightned me! I was thinking how to strenghten my wrists, but had no clue! Your training technique is exquisite and with easily available material! My kudos!
I am finishing a degree in piano performance and last year, I sprained my left wrist. It was never the same again, I cannot turn my wrist certain ways now or hold anything up either. I'm gonna try these and see if I get back to normal *fingers crossed*
It might be a good idea to pay a visit to a "Sports MD" or "Sports Physician" or whatever they're called in english. They tend to think different and have different techniques than regular doctors that may help you get back to your prime. Good luck, hope you recover.
that one with the wood is good, i do something similar by hanging a piece of string or lace in the middle of the wood and hanging a weight off the end of the lace then with my arms straight curl the bar around until the weight is at the top and then reverse until its at the bottom moving my wrists up and down in a full ark, try it out :) bruce lee did it too
@chicagobanana11 Wow lots of typos lol. Anyway, just get a bucket and playsand and your good to go. You can do it my way as in sets or as he suggest by time (use a stopwatch or watch a clock). My only critic with how he suggest is not training the opening of your hand, open it completely, you may have to pull up a little, thats fine, just go deep as you can. Anway I've said plenty. Have fun and enjoy the pumps. Let me know how it works out.
@chicagobanana11 depends how rough you want it. I use play sand so it's very hand friendly. As for difficulty, just go as deep as you can. The deeper you go the harder it gets so great for progression, if you can try to measure how deep your used to going so you can keep progress. Oh btw, expect hug pumps in your forearm. Been doing it for a year and it still gives me the freaking pump so hard it almost hurts lol. Open and close completely. Just in case I'm always done sets of 16,16,32
i Use something like the first thing you showd. but i add a 5lb weight and a hockey skate lace, and wrap it upward, and wrap in back downward to help my wrist shot its kinda hard to explain
Great video man. Another wrist strengthening exercise that I personal find amazing. Is use an old hockey stick shaft I tie a really tight knot and a little tape so it doesn't slip, get a 10 pound weight (I recommend 5 pounds at first) and just tie a knot through the hole in the plate and twist using one wrist at a time with both hands on the stick, try to bring the weight to you and then slowly come down with it and repeat. Trust me u will notice a big difference :)
Great video man. We need more people like you spreading this knowledge. When I was younger youtube didnt exist and I had to learn many of these things just by trial and error.
@tylerdurdonxx Thanks again for the comment. I wish I could provide more for goaltenders but I don't know too much about the position. But believe me I am trying to learn as much as I can and will try to provide some guest videos.
@Score100goals No problem man. I belive you have a video on here about using a shooting screen for goalies. I suppose I use a varation of that. I use a bungie passer. and will have a buddy behind me shoot into the auto passer as my back is turned to him. then the passer his pass back and I find that to also be very helpful for improving reaction time. If you adjust the bungies to different levels, you can also work on controlling bouncing pucks as well.
@Score100goals It is definitely more difficult to find good videos on here for goaltending though. I really like creating different drills on my own. I think I would really enjoy doing some kind of hockey coaching at some point. The only problem is that I don't have the playing resume that some might...where they can say they played in the nhl, ahl, or some impressive league like that.
ok for exercise 1 my parents bought me some weights would it be to hard on my wrist if i put 5 pounds on? cause i dont wanna cause serious damage to my wrist.
@Score100goals exactly. I built my own bungie passer the other day. It works awesome. Right now im in the process of building a whole hockey obstacle course, dummies to go around, bungie passers, shooting targets. Its gonna be sweet. You can build all kind of training tools with just household items and a little bit of creativity.
@tylerdurdonxx Exactly. I was completely taken aback when I learned how the Russians trained back in the day. A little creativity and hard work goes a long way.

What kind of rice would be better for wrist strengthening? Uncle Bens, regular or just minute rice?

One thing I used to do to work on puck handling was to use a baseball bat warm up weight. pretty good for building up strength on wristers too.

Or you could do deadlifts...
EssenceOfTrance 6 months ago
@EssenceOfTrance deadlifts wouldnt help with wrist strength
MrGenericplaya 5 months ago
@MrGenericplaya Why not? For a strong wrist, you train your forearm flexors and extensors. Your flexors are worked heavily with deadlifts.

I do the rice exercise except with play sand

@Vitalylovesyou your muscles are probably just tired. You should do exercises one day and go on the ice another day

oh and 1 more thing shud i work on both wrists or just my righer wrist (im right handed) im guessing both wrists are a must tho?
purple0wnzx 1 year ago
@purple0wnzx Yeah work on both of your wrists. One wrist/arm will be naturally stronger than the other so don't worry too much about that.

Yeah five pounds is too much to start. Tape a couple of pucks to the end and perform the exercises. Go up in small amounts.
