who would dislike this? I'm just curious. Like who comes to an Ella Fitzgerald video and dislikes it so much that they're gonna press the dislike button?
shut the fuck up with the thumbs up comments it is annoying as hell! I hate all of them the thumbs up if. i live in the wrong time and so on. To all these people i say go and get a sense of humor.
@JohnnyLeyenda ....go ahead and say it.. today's music S U C K S!!!!!!! What is passing off as music today is nothing but obnoxious noise uttered by whores and idiots...
it had to be him and he was suppose to not be in my life like he was and then i moved.... why????? aahhhhhh!!!! first time in 5 years i let go and let love....why?????
This music makes me want to go back... of course excluding the racism and diseases. I want to wear elegant clothes and slow dance the night away while looking into his eyes... like nothing else in the world matters. Ahh, what this music does to me.
great song I mean I'm 15 and started listening to this oldie music when i started playing fallout 3. and that hooked me on to anything 1920-1969. its great. i never listened to any of that rap crap with all that autotuned music and eeggghhhh. it sucks. But this IS GREAT

Unlike many contemporary performers with their hamfisted stylizations, endless runs of melisma, and tai bo inspired dance moves, Holiday always comes off as effortless, genuine, and utterly unique.
SiliiaEffe007 I love Billie singing, she has a unique voice and style, but I think most of the hardships she had to endure were self-inflicted in the main.
Beautiful and highly talented yes but too sorrowful for me to listen to for any length of time. I don't know if anybody put there agrees but if I listen to a whole album of this lady I would slit my wrists before the last song played out. I take my Billie in small doses.
If you haven't noticed, some people are here just to be negative about EVERYTHING downloaded here. That's how they've been able to get attention all their life. This has to do with themselves and they may not even be aware of it !!
Does anyone know what year this recording dates from? I can usually tell by the quality of her voice what period of her life something was recorded in. This sounds like the late 40's, or very early 50's.
Why Billie Holiday? The recording equipment of her time was not as sensitive as today, but even still nothing can account for the sheer intimacy of her voice and tone. She still sounds to us today as though she’s undressing and inviting you to undress all your emotions in front of your psyche! To this day she remembered as one of the best singers ever to record and the most intimate-even with the deterioration of her voice she could still pierce the soul with arrows.
I really like this slower tempo version of "It Had To Be You". I've heard it done fast so many times; it's refreshing to hear it slowed down - it seems so much more romantic. Nice arrangement by the backup band, too.
@oker59 Not that I know of. According to Wikipedia, the song was written by Isham Jones (music) & Gus Kahn (lyrics) & first published in 1924. A number of recordings of it were made that year. I'm thinking Billie's version was not the first, but it very well could be one of the best.
My father used to play this song by ear! He didn't read music! He used to sing it to my Mom...so sweet! This is for you Daddy! I love you and miss you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!
she didnt sing a song she brought it to life ........... To bad we had to loose you just happy you were able to share your talent with the world where it will always be remembered.
@riccardus100 The "it' in the line "It had to be you.." does not refer to the person falling in love. It refers to the feeling of love or the process of falling in love. So using "it" to describe the inanimate object is perfectly fine. Let me give you another sample sentence:
" It's going to rain today."
The "it" in this sentence does not refer to the person speaking, instead it refers to the weather or the current condition of the sky. I hope the explanation helps!
Few people have the vocal ability of singing a song like her. She doesn't have to hit high notes, not that there is anything wrong with that, but her voice was so special she could sing a song as simply as this and it still sound magical.
