  • only a fool would dislike this, just beautiful, it helped me remember the warm fuzzy feeling of light and love

  • who would dislike this? I'm just curious. Like who comes to an Ella Fitzgerald video and dislikes it so much that they're gonna press the dislike button?

  • I love this song

    all perfect

  • Syrupylicious...

  • so beautiful

  • it had to be.

  • Everything was better back then!!

  • @beezii2016 Not everything.

  • @beezii2016 Not so. Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" is a good reminder of that.

Thank you for posting this song, StrawberryFerryShoes! Apparently this is the first song my grandparents danced to when they met at a wedding.

  • perfect.

  • thumbs up to that!!!!!!!

  • shut the fuck up with the thumbs up comments it is annoying as hell! I hate all of them the thumbs up if. i live in the wrong time and so on. To all these people i say go and get a sense of humor.

  • wooh

  • one of the best blues singers that ever lived.

  • @GeorgeVanCleve The best Jazz singer. She didn't sing too many blues songs. Fine & Mellow & Billies Blues being two obvious exceptions!

  • Fantsatic

  • She's got a voice like smoke , just oozes through the air

  • Ah...I wish I could go back in time and enjoy this wonderful music and hear this beautiful singer, live.

I'm not saying today's music is bad...but I just think I was born in the wrong time.

  • @JohnnyLeyenda ....go ahead and say it.. today's music S U C K S!!!!!!! What is passing off as music today is nothing but obnoxious noise uttered by whores and idiots...

  • totally agree

  • @kerryincolumbus well i dont think they are all whores and idiots but point taken

  • Once you have found him, never let him go. You may find him anytime, including late in life. I did.

  • it had to be him and he was suppose to not be in my life like he was and then i moved.... why????? aahhhhhh!!!! first time in 5 years i let go and let love....why?????

  • Youtube LOVES you Billie! You're Singing the BLUES up there for the BIG MAN now. RIP. Thanks for posting!

  • This music makes me want to go back... of course excluding the racism and diseases. I want to wear elegant clothes and slow dance the night away while looking into his eyes... like nothing else in the world matters. Ahh, what this music does to me.

  • @dreamwithme365247 Right! I wish people would still sing and dance like they did then! The sheer elegance of it.. the beauty and grace. *Sighs*

  • if anyone dislikes billie they know nothing of music

  • this creates such a nice atmosphere :)

  • great song I mean I'm 15 and started listening to this oldie music when i started playing fallout 3. and that hooked me on to anything 1920-1969. its great. i never listened to any of that rap crap with all that autotuned music and eeggghhhh. it sucks. But this IS GREAT

  • @GamingMichael i am 15 too and i love this music too! have u heard of dinah shore or rosemary clooney?? they are so amazing too!

  • @AguirrePaco George Clunie's Auntie...........

  • @GamingMichael haha good to see videogames got u interested in the oldies.

  • Sensual and so classy, just lovely.

  • Unlike many contemporary performers with their hamfisted stylizations, endless runs of melisma, and tai bo inspired dance moves, Holiday always comes off as effortless, genuine, and utterly unique.

  • Some songs never gets old...just bring back a light inside new hards!

  • Never gets old.

  • How wonderful the thought of being born and already a great musical history is before you. Had to be me.

  • There is only one Billie Holiday and this song is among my favorites. Perfect match for her voice and a song.

  • when I'm this sad I seem to always turn to my grandmother's music.

  • @QueenMacoomeh Only to get more suicidal, right? lol

  • @sandymap lolol..no, it calms me down...I never stay sad for long...grandma was too upbeat a person to let her memory keep me sad.

  • This was recorded back when you actually had to have a good voice to record a hit song! Sing it girl!

  • How could anyone dislike this. augh. People these days!

  • Great stuff - thanks Billie all these years later

  • thank you for sharing!

  • SiliiaEffe007 I love Billie singing, she has a unique voice and style, but I think most of the hardships she had to endure were self-inflicted in the main.

  • Beautiful Billie. your hardship made you magnificent. hope you are resting peacefully. love.

  • So relaxing n soothing....

  • What talent!

  • Oh yes,,,sing it BIllie =)

  • Where is today's JAZZ??? Please someone bring it back....

  • @MBos27 Thanks will do :)

  • @JMCyoungblood theres good stuff out there....kermit ruffins, there i got u started...

  • @trufiend138 Thanks a million!!! :)

  • I normally don't show emotion or even hardly feel it, but there is something about Lady day that brings tears t o my eyes

  • Beautiful and highly talented yes but too sorrowful for me to listen to for any length of time. I don't know if anybody put there agrees but if I listen to a whole album of this lady I would slit my wrists before the last song played out. I take my Billie in small doses.

  • Do you know who is in the band? Thank you, a lot

  • @beforeourveryeyes

    Harry "Sweets" Edison - Trumpet

    Benny Carter - Alto Saxophone

    Jimmy Rowles - Piano

    Barney Kessel - Guitar

    Larry Bunker - Drums

    John Simmons - Bass

  • @thespacecream Thank You.so much, Angel!

  • most don't know what there missing

    thank god it's not us

  • my favourite singer ever !!

  • Why dislike this???

  • On alto sax: Benny Carter

  • i'm in love with this music!!!

  • who's the sax player?

  • If you haven't noticed, some people are here just to be negative about EVERYTHING downloaded here. That's how they've been able to get attention all their life. This has to do with themselves and they may not even be aware of it !!

  • One person is pissed off that it wasn't them.

  • i wonder who doesnt like this..democracy always..i just wonder

  • Does anyone know what year this recording dates from? I can usually tell by the quality of her voice what period of her life something was recorded in. This sounds like the late 40's, or very early 50's.

  • THE ONE!!!

  • Why Billie Holiday? The recording equipment of her time was not as sensitive as today, but even still nothing can account for the sheer intimacy of her voice and tone. She still sounds to us today as though she’s undressing and inviting you to undress all your emotions in front of your psyche! To this day she remembered as one of the best singers ever to record and the most intimate-even with the deterioration of her voice she could still pierce the soul with arrows.

  • Amazing voice...... like none other.

  • one dislike haha i guess it wasent you! sucka!

  • Rest in peace darling Lady Day! We miss you.

  • someone special to dance this with, please!

  • Sweet sweet song

  • Billie Holiday is a synonym for the blues

  • I really like this slower tempo version of "It Had To Be You". I've heard it done fast so many times; it's refreshing to hear it slowed down - it seems so much more romantic. Nice arrangement by the backup band, too.

  • @JohnnieBeer

    Is this original from her? Thanx in advance;

  • @oker59 Not that I know of. According to Wikipedia, the song was written by Isham Jones (music) & Gus Kahn (lyrics) & first published in 1924. A number of recordings of it were made that year. I'm thinking Billie's version was not the first, but it very well could be one of the best.

  • ..............la plus belle........

  • what a voice...

  • the person who disliked it is a tone deaf jackass.......

  • @bpolly93 ur not getting no thumbs up ahahaha

  • she was made for the blues...

  • Does anyone know the session date or the album title? It is a fantastic version. i would like to know who the session musicians are.

  • Suppose so ...:-))))

  • Wow, she was gorgeous.

  • Billie Holiday is immortal

I hope that she knows how many fans still love her

  • My father used to play this song by ear! He didn't read music! He used to sing it to my Mom...so sweet! This is for you Daddy! I love you and miss you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!

  • This REALLY brings back memories! I didn't know she sang this song!

What a beautiful voice! Brings back memories from the 40's!

    Thank you!

  • omg, this song just made me feel all her pain. and brought out some of my own that I was hiding, deep.

  • only vid i've seen so far with no dislikes!! RESPECT!!

  • This is a gorgeous song and arrangement. Billie sounds at her best!!!

  • She does this in Billie Holiday style...which is superb

  • A truly beautiful song sung by a truly beautiful woman.

  • Soo smooth...

  • Never Mind Amazon :/

  • WHere can I get the cd?

  • beautiful

  • sensational!

  • Billie sang from the heart and she touched the hearts of all who still listen with joy

  • she didnt sing a song she brought it to life ........... To bad we had to loose you just happy you were able to share your talent with the world where it will always be remembered.

  • She has the most unique and beautiful voice, unlike any other, a real diamond. Timeless music that will never fade.

  • love it so deep it melts me x

  • Magic Lady

  • If you will dance with me to this song....our feet may never move.....but our hearts will be soaring together.....I love you.....

  • THE SAX!!!! When that came in...Damn!

  • WHEN SHE SONG A SONG SHE LIVE IT AS WELL!

  • OMG, that saxophone!

  • Sir on the wind kicks ass as well.

  • Wonderful. Lady Day at the end of the road. Her Voice and phrasing is so poignant. Like the mature Judy Garland. Lady Day - WOW!

  • Fantastic

  • wonderful song, but Idon't undersand why it had and not I had.I'm italian and sometimes the english grammar is not so easy as many people belive!

  • @riccardus100 Are you saying "I had to be you" makes sense?

  • @riccardus100 The "it' in the line "It had to be you.." does not refer to the person falling in love. It refers to the feeling of love or the process of falling in love. So using "it" to describe the inanimate object is perfectly fine. Let me give you another sample sentence:

" It's going to rain today."

The "it" in this sentence does not refer to the person speaking, instead it refers to the weather or the current condition of the sky. I hope the explanation helps!

  • i can imagine myself, embraced in my sweetie's arms, slow dancing the night away to the soothing croons of Lady Day.... Sooo in Love..

  • Just ingenuous...what a voice....omg...i always wonder who i love more...she or Dinah!

  • Ah, and the guitar intro is stunning...

  • A voice built by God himself.

  • Only the best, Billie Holiday, oh how I wish I lived in that era. What a gift to blues!

  • Lady Day and blues for the eternity.

  • outstanding

  • Fantastic.....what a superb voice she had, one of the very best artist ever. Thanks for posting, wonderful to listen to.

  • hermoso!!!

  • Few people have the vocal ability of singing a song like her. She doesn't have to hit high notes, not that there is anything wrong with that, but her voice was so special she could sing a song as simply as this and it still sound magical.

  • Great song!

    I'm thinking of u, l!

  • love this song...she had such an amazing heart pulling voice

  • i am a puddle.

  • @scmusic11 Agreed.

  • blue angel of Harlem -MAGNIFIQUE!

  • this is the bomb cut of this song

  • never knew she song this song. Ah, Billie Holiday, your voice brings emotions to the surface. God rest your soul

  • No doubt she's the one. She makes love to the hears..

  • the most beautiful and sorrowful voice ever...a voice made for the blues...
