  • when mike pinder left the group the moody blues lost their heare and sole.this song is awesome on the lp, John needey pinder and thomas to and to his voice

  • Ray had one of the best voices in rock.

  • OK the singing's not fantastic and The Moody Blues have never, in my opinion, been The Moody Blues since Mike left, but how can someone keep talking throughout a concert? They shouldn't attend such events if all they want to do is chat.

  • you cannot replace Ray. He is a great voice of the world.

  • I love the Moodies but this sounds a touch off.

  • @nobodyhomehere1502 much better in person...

  • John is a wonderful performer and song writer, but his voice used to be better than this. Perhaps it is the strain from all the touring year after year. Makes you wonder.

  • the reason this song doesn't sound right is that john can't sing real well- when ray and mike pinder helped with the vocals this was a very strong song- I saw them play it in 1972- and it was a show stopper. now higher and higher and this one a a couple of other standards are greatly dimished because of the vocal quality- and while just can still sing with the best of them- john is very hit or miss and his hi jinks on higher and higher are laughable.

  • No offense to them, but wow, their ability to do music has gone down a lot in older age. If you hear the original of this song you will know what I mean!

  • @YoungNubb I agree... I'm a Moodies disciple...been to 3 shows...but they miss Ray..... and age is catching up.... they need a long break... get back to the orchestra

  • Great song, very powerful, and 'Procession' on the flip side, is also fantastic!

  • Great song which we don't often hear. Thank you for posting this.

  • se nota que ya están muy quemaetes, la canción es preciosa,qué voy a decir de los moody blues,el grupo que me hizo soñar despierto.

  • excellent song from an an outstanding group.

  • Lovely song. And the Moodies sing it so wonderfully. Thanks to John for writing it, and to the Moodies for singing it. Just beautiful!

    Love, Jusfriend

  • I sure miss Ray

  • The girl is cute but I still miss Ray.

  • I am so glad that this video is on YouTube! I love this song. I saw them a few days ago in Orlando on April 1. This song was amazing! I wish that this song was included in the live 2005 album. I'm 23 and it was my 3rd time seeing them (certainly not the last time)!

  • just a great song and a timeless band.

  • I like the irradiance sparks coming from the boy on the album cover holding the glowing quartz

  • great =)

  • Berry,

My daughter is down there for a week of training, and she says it is sweltering! Good luck for the next tour!

  • Berry,

Thought you would like that. But seriously, it was a great song. I'd heard in the past there were problems with it in concert so I was apprehensive when they started. It was wonderful though and as I said it was well received! Hopefully looking forward to POUGHKEEPSIE in October!

  • i hope to go to poughkeepsie too! when are they going on sale the suspense is too much!

  • Inwood,

Yes, I know what you mean! I keep checking MBT to see when they go on sale. It is not a great venue, but at least another chance to see them. Not too far for me to travel either.

  • When I saw them earlier this month, they played this song much better. To me besides NIWS, this was the best song of the night! They received another well deserved standing ovation!

  • but i WAS in an airplane at the time..think it was on fire...donno..scary 'tho!

  • not at all, milady! i think i've answered to WAY worse!

  • with applesauce? lmbo! thanks for pointing me in a direction re. cover art!

  • Berr,

I was just admiring Lodgies britches, and then the camera panned over to "HER". UGH!!!

  • who did the cover art? my poor brain used to sit for HOURS loving it!

  • I just found this place and am in love already. berrygirl, I too am a Lodge fan. John is a year older- and finer. This song is a long-time favorite of mine.

  • Nice to see this one being done again.

Saw them do this song in '72 - with Pinder.

    The EGBDF tour.

The chorus resounded nicely...and John Lodge totally owns this song in concert.

  • hmm, what was i supposed to do?

  • great can't believe i missed this!

  • great song !even though Justins voice has a dropt a bit and i miss his Gibson guitar work it still stands up good job boys

  • It's the first song of side 2 (or B). And yep, it's a John's.

Higher and higher is on youtube? Great!

  • Oh wow! They performed this song live and as recently as last October! I'm blown away! I hope I am as fortunate that my boys will surprise me with a lesser known classic when I see them live in Boston Next month! I would give anything for a "hell freezes over tour" that would reunite them with Mike and his melotron to perform "Melancholy Man"!

  • Where's Pinder and his mellotron?

  • Mike left in 78 during the Octave session, i have a 1973 version of this i hope to upload soon.

  • I was assuming this was before Pinder's departure, but I guess not. I mostly was wondering why the camera did not focus at all on the keyboardist. Was there no keyboards?

  • This is post Moraz, Pinder, and Thomas isnt it?

I'd had to buy that obnoxious chatterbox broad seated nearby a footlong, (spiked with Ambien/and some quick set cement) had I been there. How inconsiderate she was (and will be forever now). Thanks for postin anyway.

  • he left in the 70's

  • This is the first time I've heard this song. I really love it - why haven't I heard it? I love this video, and I love John.

  • It's on the album "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour"

I advise that you get the album because that version is excellent.

  • Yea, I know. They're finally doing all the background songs; maybe it's because Ray left? They would then need more filler songs

  • I agree Kev. I would prefer this to "Isnt Life Strange"

What I think is strange, is that they waited till so late in their career to some of the great old stuff. see "higher And Higher" on you tube. Wow!

  • Holy Crap! I can't believe they did this song. it's rather obscure, but excellent.

  • Now if they could find someone to sing along like Ray or Mike. Sad

  • Thank You! Looking forward to my next Moodie concert.

These live clips are great. Great seats.
