Thank you SO much for posting! This was where I was born and partly raised and I remember this commercial as a child. I BEGGED my parents to go see Dracula starring Frank Langella on Broadway back then, they said I was too young, but THEY saw it and couldn't STOP raving about it with their friends! Thank you so much, I love seeing Stephanie Mills and the Grease cast, etc. Wonderful, wonderful Broadway memories in such a great commercial!
OMG!!!! I'M CRYING DAMNIT!!!! Haven't seen this since I was in the 6th grade!!! I left home to come to ALASKA in 86...!!! casey...I LOVE AND MISS NEW YORK!!!!!!!
@austinrules24 No, it was in 1978 when John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John starred in the movie "Grease". And I also saw "The King and I". They made a play out of that movie in New York then? Obviously the first group of Girls they displayed was "A Chorus Line", which was just as popular here in Los Angeles as it was in New York back in the 70's.
Frankie Langella's appearance as Dracula was easily the cheesiest ending to any commercial I've ever seen. Must've inspired Rudolf Martin's over-the-top portrayal of the same character in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series. After first watching this promo in the late-1970s, I have been able to regard Frankie only in a humorous light. As for menacing characters he has played, how about Bob Alexander in "Dave?"
l love this commercial - one of my all time favourities. Rome may be the immortal city of the Old World, but New York is indeed the immortal city of the NEW WORLD ! I LOVE NEW YORK !
I got chills watching this! Great time to be there!Actually, in retrospect, I wonder if it's because I moved there in 1976 when i was 17 that made it so great, or if it really WAS that great.Would love some input. Thanks
Wonderful, I remember the premiere party for this ad campaign, at Studio 54, I was working there then, and I remember the magic of falling in love with a city, I still feel that watching this clip, timeless!!!
This is one of the best thought out ad commericals for the city of New York. When I first saw it back in the 70's it really made me think. Now seeing it again, it makes me think and makes me almost cry. We need something like this now for the mess we, so the outlook will at least seem a little brighter. Because of this ad years ago, I went to New York and fell in love with the City.
Me too hehe. I grew in NY in the 70's in the US. SUCH A SPECIAL TIME NEVER TO BE BROUGHT BACK AGAIN. tHE GREAT TIMES OF THE 70'S WITH GOOD ROCK AND EVEN BETTER DISCO. I ALWAYS THINK I WAS BORN IN THE WRONG GENERATION.
NYC is the greatest city in America!

Wasn't this commercial back in the 70's?
Jiltedin2007 8 months ago
@Jiltedin2007 I think it may be, just because the cast of Annie looks like it's the original from 1977 (I could be wrong, though...).
Also, I don't think Grease made it into the 80's...

I remember seeing a version of this that also had Evita, Sweeney Todd, and Cats cast members in it... Do you know where that one is?

Thank you for bringing that ad. That was what I remembered it back in the late 70's.

I remember this as being the first time I ever saw Langella as Dracula (and regret not having seen him on stage in the role).

I'll take the Metropolitan Opera and Lincoln Center thank you!!!
Broadway shows that are laced with color, razzle-dazzle, and liveliness - I hate color and full-of-life.

Does anyone else remember when Elizabeth Taylor appeared in these commericals? She said I love New York it makes my heart beat faster?
