  • Alcohol was the worst thing introduced to the native americans...

  • will you please bury david white cloud burkharts flute too,I can't stand to hear that noise.

  • So the Native American Indians slain people it's no different then any other people from other countries protecting their land from intruders . Saddam did it to Kuwait , Hitler to the Jews. America did it to Vietnam and so on . wars between tribes happened but what the white man did to the Native Americans that felt threatened was Wrong on so many levels. There were tribes that were treated well at first here in the East when the white man showed up but where are they now from Pa

  • I remember anting to read this book but found it too heartbreaking and couldn't bring myself to read it. I love the spirit of the native Americans and wish them all the best in the future.

    Slainte!

  • great.. BELLISSIMO...CiA o

  • The 7th Cavalry was entrapped the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. The 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers rescued the 7th Cavalry.

Read the novel, Rescue at Pine ridge, the story of the rescue of the famed 7th Cavalry by the Buffalo Soldiers, and visit website; rescue at pine ridge. com. The novel embodies Native Americans, Outlaws and Buffalo Soldiers, in the days of the Native American Wars with the approach USA. Story is about, brutality, compassion, reprisal, bravery, heroism and gallantry.

  • The Amreican history is writen with blood, and the european colonists are more than bad or what ever...they lie, they kill and more than words can say...peace,love and harmony 4 every 1 in the world

  • its good to read comments like this from ordinary americans. the genocide practised on the native americans included giving their children shallpox infested blankets, gutrot whisky, there was no word in their language for rape until white man introduced it, read stephen e ambrose books to highlight this

  • @wolfie571 There may have been no word for rape but many of the tribes treated women about like cattle and rape was not uncommon, even if it went unnamed.

  • @wolfie571 "Genocide"

Indian Tribes often raided other tribes to capture slaves and sex partners.

  • Amazing movie!

  • Custer a self-righteous egotistical prick, murderer of unarmed women and children. He got exactly what he deserved and it’s only the fucking yanks that can class an arsehole like him as a national hero

  • @2709aaron what? i guess i am a so called yank, and i know that custer was a dick. National hero? who the hell have you been talking to? The native american people were butchered all in the name of expansion of the west. All governments have a past in such dealings, especially yours. I'm not pissed at you, just your comment about "the yanks". You didn't say some yanks, you said yanks and that means all of us. Trust me, there are plenty of us americans who hate custer and all he stood for.

  • @2709aaron Custer was an arrogant ass and his arrogance got him and all of his men killed. There is a reason he never was actually promoted above Colonel.

Despite this, though, his men absolutely loved him.

The Officer in this film is not Custer but Col. Nelson Miles, and as portrayed in this film, what he said was right.

And Sitting Bull wasn't a kindly old grandfather pushed to the edge by the mean ol' white man. He was a sort of dictator.

  • @DURound - The American army knew that as long as the Sitting Bull was alive they couldnt defeat the Sioux.

What was the American Army doing at the time of the war?

DICTATING were his people should live by either moving them onto central reservations & if they didnt comply they were killed.

"And Sitting Bull wasn't a kindly old grandfather pushed to the edge by the mean ol' white man?" The Wounded Knee Massacre springs too mind.... Many of those killed men woman & children were unarmed

  • @2709aaron Ummm... The Sioux were pretty much defeated long before Sitting Bull died, but that has nothing to do with anything that I said. I suppose you want to change the subject to how mean the US was to the Sioux. Sure, the US was mean to them. :: Shrug:: The Sioux were also mean sometimes. Its just how it is. Sitting Bull was no tree hugging grandfatherly hippie. He also slew innocent women and children indiscriminately. Do you cry for them?

    Hypocrisy.

  • I read this book a few years back. It is impossibly painful to read. Hell does exist, and we white men are the devil.

  • What about all the killings of other tribes by other tribes? Oh then it is justified, but as soon as a white tribe comes along with better guns and train and do the same thing that they were doing onto each other it is racist? That is racist to think killing in same race situation is fine but if you have the wrong skin tone it is racist. All killing is disgusting and cruel but back in those days it was honorable in all tribes. I think people should take off those 21st century PC goggles.

  • The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after Little Big Horn, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn't for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th. Rescue at Pine Ridge. com.

  • Our government has betrayed everyone, in the past they took the Natives history, language, land, and lives, shoved the Bible down their throughts and now threw the "No child Left behind act" our kids are enlisted to go kill these people in the middle east, can America make up their minds about who to kill, cuz we are all confused here! Long live Tatanka and the Natives!! Peace, give back to the earth instead of raping it!!

    Its all in the roots!!

    Peace!

  • why is it back in the 50's 60's and 70's native american charictors on tv and movies were allways played by white people and not native americans ?

  • I watched this on Tv the other day! It was soooooo good!

  • The book by Dee Brown is actually a diverse collection of stories. The account of Sitting Bull and incidents leading to the Wounded Knee Massacre were but a chapter or two in the book.

This movie whose title was inspired by the book is really the story of Ohiyesa the Lakota boy who would experience assimilation first hand and grow up to be the man Dr. Charles Eastman (Adam Beach). I thought it was a decent movie.

  • Its my favourite book. I have just finished reading it (again)!!

  • sorry- my computer is whacked out- great film and truly heartbreaking. The book should be required reading for every "American".

  • um, yeah why are you putting this "Common" music with a great film. Gee, I don't get it.

  • My dad and sister was in this movie.. lol ii loved it!!

  • im actually half apache -half sioux-half irish and terrible at maths !

  • I remember growing up, I used to say, "I want to be an indian when I grow up". People still laugh at me, when I bring that up. It's sad that none of my family has followed our ancestry. I am a very small part native american, and mostly scottish. I wish I could have known more about my ancestors. I have asked so many questions, but no good answers.

  • its soo sad indigenous people lived in peace and then out of nowhere english men came and take everything.

    AMAZING MOVIE

  • @305peruana

Peace? it was anything but peace before the first white man stepped onto the continent. Tribes waring with other tribes the trade of people, the religious view which ended in horrific deaths. They were more like the white man they you would ever know. And you said English? what about the French, Spanish. Not only that, what about the other tribes who were completely annihilated by other tribes? And why did so many Natives call English "Our white Fathers" DO YOU RESEARCH!

  • This story makes me deeply, deeply ashamed of my race.

Here were a people living in rough perfection; at home with sky and earth; strong families that lived in societies that valued and cared for it's members.

It makes me physically sick when I compare it to culture today. Hippocritical, superficial, ridiculous culture today.

  • When I saw this sad story(and not only this one, unfortunately)I confess I felt deeply ashamed,of beeing white and see what my white fellows have been able to do...the history is so full of blood and wounds...but as maximhuss said before:not all of us are such bad people...I hope at least today we can look to each other with diferent eyes.

My deepest respect and admiration for native-americans!

    Greetings from Europe

  • Just saw the movie, and it was really good. Not all "white people" or caucasians are bad. Some of us just want to live off the land and have the govt leave us alone. In fact, that's what many Europeans came to this land for. We ran from the govt and the power-hungry rich followed us over here. Now there is no room to run from the enslavers, so pretty soon we will ALL have to unite to get our God-given freedom back.

  • NATIVE WARRIORS POWER LAKOTA 4LYFE!!! so don't be hate on me cuz im warrior too cuz im the FBI mean full blood indian whachu know about thiz WOUNDED KNEE AIM

  • Native Power!!!

  • I've just seen HBOs version of Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee! for the first time! Its just so tragic and sad. The book is even more powerful by Dee Brown. Oh deary me, we are going to pay for the wrongs we did to such a wonderful civilization. Its a disgrace how Native Americans are treated still to this day!! Boy did we get it wrong with our interpretation of civilization. The world has got itself into a big mess. Peace

  • My grandfather was full Lakota but I am mostly African American. I am seen by the white man as African American and treated as such. My argument has always been centered around the Native American. I have always said the white man has almost wiped out an entire race of people. Natives should be on the endangered list. A house divided can't stand. People of color should stick together or we will parish. That is the white mans long term plan for people of color. I love native traditions.

  • I hear you and understand your pain but we all bear the scars, as I said before. It isn't the white race. It is the culture that has nearly been destroyed, but we're bringing it back. . . people of all colors. I'm of mixed heritage myself and while I may look white, I'm indian through and through

  • Many of us have lost our way on the red road. Go talk to an elder. If you are truly interested in uniting, then you are going to need to heal, let go of race and realize we are all related. Then begin learning and preserving. You can help the Lakota's with Russell Mean's immersion classes. That is a great place to start.

  • and still the government is a bunch of dickheads

  • They've always been. They called the Indians, they owners of the territory: HOSTILES! Imagine that! I need to see this movie, I have a wonderful respect to the Native American Indians. Great trailer, btw!

  • look for the walking medicine

  • very interesting, I would love too learn more, peace my beloved friends.

    Thank you littlebear.

  • Black Yolk said "the land doesn't belong to us, we doesn't belong to the land, in fact, i personnaly don't give a fuck"...

I think this man was a Great Man.

  • The white europeans who invaded our land and raped everything once was ours, are ashamed of what they did to gain what they only know as America. This is why the generations dont know what happen and how they became and what they are. Native people shouldn't be poor. Natives should be collecting a tax check for the land stolen. If were all to pay taxes The white house ows big time. They named the house right. Its about time to change name. Salt & Pepper house.

  • lol ever hear of CASINO'S idiot. The native americans ARE getting payment.

  • You show profound ignorance by that statement. You should be embarrassed.

  • Gosh, I'm so glad this trailor was sent to me.

    This looks quite interesting, indeed.

  • Seems like a very good story.

  • Not only a very good story, BUT a very SAD story. The book is awesome.

  • Where can i download it online?

  • I don't know, but we could ask the others. I'd like to download it, too. It's on HBO, but I don't have cable tv at home, or I would have copied it. :)

  • Your lucky you live in the US, here in Australia, i can't watch it on any channel. So i have to download it off the net. If you find a link, please let us know.

  • Please Complain about racist headline at this number :

    Call The Bee's Ailene Voisin, (916) 321-1208.

Ailene Voisin: The bad news Bears bury hearts on wounded knees

  • wene did this come out and did it make it to D.V.D by now if it isint stell on the HBO networck i wode like to no thanks...

  • How can you say things like Native Pride? Its okay to be proud of where you come from and who you are, but I have noticed that many Native men are full of too much pride which is not good. Too much pride gets you no where. It is sad to see that many Native people are lost, we are all equal, it is the way the Creator intended us to be,as one. Hatred towards another human being gets you no where but lost in a world of deception and vanity.

  • Your an idiot. Do you think that "world of deception and vanity" line of yours covered up your ignorance?

  • I absolutely agree. I grew up in the Black Hills of South dakota and I have sadly witnessed the plainly divided line between both whites and Natives there. Yes I have witnessed the stereotypes, but I have also witnessed the Phd holding native americans (and no Lakota isn't the only tribe there no matter what kevin costner tells you). If you teach your children that this was wrong, the next generation has the power and tools to turn it around and THAT is the bottom line I believe.

  • Even better...scroll up and type Red Storm Drum and dance troupe....the very first dancer shown is Taino...they have a website also if you need further help in the getting educated process.

  • /sigh and yet another uneducated whiteman who THINKS he knows....type taino into the search engine and see how died out they are...O yea...the natives didnt invade europe and rape their women....other way around no matter what your highschool claims to be true

  • O yea and btw...I am scottish my husband is Native american (Taino tribe from the carribean). Hispanic does not mean the same as Latinos....it literally means "less than a spaniard" or like but beneath the spanish. Many who have returned to the old ways and traditions do not refer to themselves as being beneath anyone.

  • hahahaha taino?.....a hispanic bunch of rapist!!!! taino died out 300 years ago

  • and to those who type how much they hate whites and americans...sadly you keep repeating the cycle...educate so that is doen't happen further. coincidently, the spanish were the ones to think they owned the world and wiped out families who wouldn't or couldn't speak spanish, so it has been going on long before the english speaking europeans arrived....all in the name of a pretty colored metal.

  • Thank you! Evil and Greed is a Human thing, not a Red, White, Black or Yellow thing. People who say "OMfgG LOL WHHiTE PPL SUCK I HATE THEM IM 1/8 ChERoKEE" are just making the circle of hate go round and round, All the soldiers that were at Wounded Knee are dead. White Americans don't have anything to do with it. People do not chose what race/ethnicity they are to be born. Paz.

  • i read this book by Dee Brown, there was one part that i thought funny, this gen. brigdr. Miles who was said to capture Chief Geronimo.the general sent 5000 infantry and 500 scouts to try and capture the Chief Geronimo and his 24 warriors.really,it made me laugh...of course they didn't capture him.he openly came to them.

  • oh yeah nathan chasing horse is hot!!!

  • who sang the opening theme song for this movie

  • the destruction of a civilization far superior to the brutal european model that destroyed it,lok at iraq, stupid american clowns killing more innocents,

  • It's good to see some REAL film about Natives; so much of it is about faux mystic nonsense and a slanted fantasy about natives. May we not repeat these horrors.

  • wow. i read the book in us history class in high school. it was totally engrossing. very tragic part of us history.

  • 29th December 1890 Never Forget.

"I am just trying to be a Human Being in a world that is rapidly losing its understanding of being human." John Trudell.

500 years of imperialism must stop here and now. we all are now in the same boat.

  • THEY ALREADY SHOWED IT THIS PAST MAY?????? how could i have missed it??? sergio please email me.

  • stupid white americans!!!!!! i hate all!

  • You don't like racism, yet you are a racist. See, there are terrible people on all sides, and good ones on all sides. Educate yourself and make some positive changes instead of just complaining and pointing fingers.

  • How do you define "white" as Anglo? if thats so than come to Miami you will find the biggest parasites in politics known to the world . They are not "White" they are Hispanic different groups but 90% are crminals who do nothing but steal

  • Ironically, Latin Americans are Native Americans, you fool. The only ones who aren't are those who are transplanted Europeans (Spaniards) or Africans (who were brought there as slaves) and those who are mixed with any of those other groups. Most the transplanted Iberians formerly resided in Cuba, though they also exist in most of the more developed Latin American nations.

  • Ok, umm...the Lord of the Rings reference not doing any good for your credibility--Orcs? Lord of the Rings? Seriously? That's kind of a white and nerdy thing don't ya think? No offense to any other Lotr fans.

  • Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!! That is so funny, I actually thought that you were serious at first. Now I know you are just writing tasteless comedy, because nobody can be that much of a halfwitted moron. Because if you really believe that, you got serius problems and need professional help.

  • Wait a couple hundred years or so. You'll get your wish. We'll probably all be one race anyway. Oh, and Xerxes...what on earth possessed you to name yourself after a Persian King that was defeated at the Battle of Thermopalyae by 300 or so "white people"? Just wondering.

  • Xerxes555 not all white people are monsters, just like not all Native Americans follow the true path. You don't speak for all of us. And I sure in the hell don't speak for you.

  • I highly recommend watching this movie.

  • I agree I loved the movie it was well done . HBO movies as a whole I dont watch but that one I loved

  • racism should be dead now but IT IS NOT and to think it is is pure delusion

  • POWER FOR AMERICAN NATIVES

  • yes..it was a terrible thing what the europeons did....but whites today are not like this....some...but very few....start 2 live in the present.....racism should be dead by now....

  • i beg 2 differ....im not white nor am i black...im both but not all whites r this way...ur generalizing 2 much.....fool

  • Nice comment xerxes. I hope you didn't get it from 300.

  • "we will be known forever by the tracks we leave behind....."

this better win all the emmys

  • when does it come out on dvd????

  • Just wait for it to come out on DVD :)

  • wonderful movie ... go see it

  • Hilter targeted the Jews and along with that

Gypsies, Russians, Poles, Czechs and Gays.

Man's inhumanity to man is awful.

However, we Indian people fight amongst ourselves with little squabbles ub daily matters that hold us from progressing to FULL self-reliance in the long run.

    Proud to be Cherokee!

  • Assimilation was nothing more than the US' attempt at genocide. how much different is it than Hitler?

  • Thanks for posting the trailer on youtube !

  • I want to see this movie :(
